Did you watch the trailer that this thread is about which explains this in detail before posting this?
Yes, and it does not explain how the button controls work at all. It just shows a static Switch Lite with the game being played with no additional mention of how exactly the button controls work, just that they are supported.

No clue

If you didn't use a coupon or promo code, I'd just re-order it I guess? Then again I don't remember if GameStop lets you easily cancel online preorders or not
I just ordered it, seems that they don't charge until the order actually processes.

I called them and they literally said "I have no clue". What kind of customer service...

It says "Pre-Order low price guarantee" so if that's not the case when I pick it up...

Seeing Zelda falling down from the sky like that, I'm beginning to wonder if you explore the sky world as Link and the underworld as Zelda. It would be a good way to finally give players the playable Zelda they've been craving (and no, Spirit Tracks from two years ago doesn't count). It's obvious something's up with the underworld. Zelda could potentially send pieces of it skyward -- hence the title? -- for Link to explore.

Known as the "Second Quest", the story would have followed Zelda's adventure depicted in the credits of the game, where she falls to the Surface and reawakens as the goddess incarnate. Although shelved during development, it would have been an interesting glimpse to see Zelda's journey."

Man I hope we get the GC version of WW in 4K someday. WW OG looks so much better than WW HD.
It'd be nice if they had a toggle to switch between the GameCube and Wii styles (even if it meant reloading the game from your last save or something).

Nice, thanks for the Wario link, I'm in at $50 for sure. Really hoping for Hero Mode from the start, it'll really make a difference for when you upgrade your equipment throughout the game.

Gamestop won't promise release date delivery though. In fact they say up to a week of delay! But Amazon is OOS.

okay then I had a placebo effect because it's been in every other trailer, like the announcement trailer and several videos on the official website/twitter:

at no point did I ever suggest anything of the sort beyond what I said there?!?!

Yeah you did:

it's pretty clear that whatever QoL change this had are all subtle things like fewer prompts/faster dialogue/etc that don't lend themselves to be bullet points in a trailer.

Why are you so obsessed with clapping back at anyone who has anything even remotely critical about this release?

You misread it then? Cause if you read it again I don't claim to know what they changed anywhere in that sentence. I said "whatever QoL changes this had" [should be "has"] and then I list the likely candidates.

Am I not allowed to disagree with people here who have negative things to say? lol

I've never been super good at seeing crazy differences in graphics. Like it looks sharper and cleaner for sure, but I don't see any new texture. It just looks how that asset would have originally looked in HD to me.

Yeah, the textures aren't new they've just been cleaned up. Unfortunately, this isn't a process that happens automatically by re-rendering them in HD. You can re-render geometry at a higher resolution and get less noticeable jaggies, but for textures, they will not gain much clarity and will usually have your standard nearest-neighbor-style upscaling artifacts if nothing as been done to them. Running the game in Dolphin without texture packs proves that is exactly what happens (which is why people use texture packs when rendering at higher resolutions).

While you may think those textures would have originally looked like the Switch HD examples by simply being rendered them in HD, that could only be true if they were designed for that resolution to begin with, which they were not.

Basically low-res textures won't look clean and sharp just by re-rendering them in HD. If they're not going to be replaced by new textures, they would have to be treated. AI upscaling has become a pretty easy and efficient way to do that and it appears to be the approach that they went with for Skyward Sword HD.

I thought they might have taken the care and time to redo the character textures at least, but yeah seems like it's just an upscale. While some textures are pretty low-res, they have to be careful that the AI upscaling doesn't destroy the bokeh effect baked into some environmental textures, so they can't go too crazy with it. That's why I think a lot of the texture packs I've seen for this game are absolutely horrendous.

I was better off not knowing that they had this planned.

How do we know they didn't have HD versions of these assets and made low res versions for the Wii? The game came out late enough that they may have been starting to prep for HD development.

It's possible, and it's something I've considered. But looking at the results, some of the textures have smoothening artifacts consistent with AI upscaling, and seem to still be based on the original textures from the original game. I could definitely be wrong about the method, but I wouldn't expect to see such artifacts in HD versions of these textures, and I would also expect them have more visual differences as HD texture upgrades tend to have.

Wind Waker HD uses completely new lighting system with some redone assets whereas this (from what I understand) is mostly just a direct port, graphically speaking.

I personally loved Wind Waker on GC, and even more so when I upgraded to Wii U version.

THEN years later I played the Cemu version at 5K (lol) and 60fps locked 30fps and god damn...it was incredible.

I also dumped my BotW disc to try on Cemu as well and I will say it is the definitive Zelda experience (played at 4K and locked 60fps, sometimes even 90fps) as the frame logic/physics issues have been fixed.

Not too hot on SS right now but I'll wait to see reviews since these videos Nintendo are providing are certainly not selling me on it.

I think this looks way better than whatever Nintendo is cooking, even if you ignore the 4K and just play it in 720p YouTube.
Gameplay starts halfway.

I think you mean better, and you're welcome Mooney.

Praise flaming sac!! To a bountiful harvest of all shperical foods!! 🍎 🥝 🍉 🍊

the wind waker is an unfinished game with some of the easiest dungeons in the series. skyward sword is a complete idea marred by some really bad pacing when it comes to notifying the player and taking them out of the experience. you can't fix the former but you can fix the latter.

i really love a lot about the wind waker, but it all comes down to the presentation. the story, visuals, and music is all on-point. it's just a great little world to explore. i've played it three times now and it'd take a lot to get me back again. i can experience the best parts of tww by watching it on youtube.

I really like Wind Waker but I kinda agree. The dungeons may be the worst as a batch, the sea is underwhelming, and if you don't get those two right there's really bad mileage going in. ... Oh and Tetra gets white-washed by magic. >_>

Those overly detailed textures are largely destroying the game's original aesthetic. There are no longer any patterns of splashes of paint on the ground in Skyloft lol.

Am I missing something here? I thought CEMU couldn't run WW HD (or TP HD) on 60fps because the games logic are tied to the framerate.

Shit lol sorry I mixed them up, will correct my post and make it clearer!

WW on Cemu is limited to 30fps, but there is a hack for Dolphin I believe to get it to 60. When I played on Wii U I'm certain is rarely held 30 lol...

BotW used to have the same limit where above 30 would cause physics/logic issues (notably in boss fights) but was fixed a few months ago and the sky is the limit for fps now.

Outside a handful of brilliant design pieces, this game is absolutely heinous.

And Fi is one of the absolute worst characters in a game ever.

Man I'm feeling ancient right now because I actually remember the pre-release hype threads for Skyward Sword back on the old site. I distinctly remember people posting gifs praising some of the cutscene animations and saying how Nintendo was finally pushing the series forward by playing into the Link x Zelda chemistry.

I can't remember why, but I dropped the game during the desert temple. I don't recall having any issues with the design of the game, but it felt like a hassle to play with the Wiimote compared to the previous games.

Not gonna happen, but I would have loved if they actually went and did this for this release, even if it's under an hour of gameplay. Better to focus on Botw2, though.

I would recommend anyone that's interested to play this game

It is a weird game

A great game

An annoying game

A Metroid game

It is... A game

There's some experimental stuff out there if you look hard enough, but what little you can find has game-breaking bugs. None of the pre-BotW 3D Zeldas - 64, GCN, Wii, 3DS, or Wii U - have well known 60fps patches because none of them really work.
When I played on Wii U I'm certain is rarely held 30 lol...
It's nearly locked at 30 outside of certain instances, such as several explosions being on screen.
Oof, idk why I had such a visceral reaction to revisiting dungeons
It's just the one. They almost did enough to make it interesting, but... not really.

I really hoped that they made stamina not be redundant in this remaster, but that hope dashed away at the trailers and the previews.
