Went to walmart to try and get it a bit cheaper and it was no where to be seen on the shelves. Idk if it was sold out or if they just didnt even put it out on the floor yet?

I came home and succumbed to the digital version for full price instead.

Why

Why can you not control the camera using just the right stick?

Why

Why do you have to hold down the left bumper?

Why

WHY?!

It's the cost of making motion controls worth with a traditional control scheme. Something has to be sacrificed. Better that than no camera control at all, or not traditional controls at all.

Decided to use my 2nd eshop voucher on this. I've got mixed memories of playing SS the first time round, but I think I'll enjoy it more this time knowing what to expect. Plus hoping the remaster improvements will have an impact too.

I picked this up and the joy cons yesterday but haven't started yet. Waiting to finish Bowser's Fury first but I'm excited to dive in. I never played it back on Wii.

So are open world games, but there isn't a shortage of those.

I would love it if there were more games inspired by the traditional 3D Zelda games; they're my favorite genre of video games.
Totally agree. The combination of action adventure mixed with puzzle focused dungeons and environments with unique items, weapons and boss fights, there's really very little like it.

There are plenty of action adventure games with a focus on action and adventure, dungeon based games that are simply dungeon looters, puzzle games that are almost entirely focused on puzzles. But there are not really a lot of games that feature all of these aspects.

That's why I never really got tired of the "Zelda formula" because there really aren't many games like it. There are plenty of 2D Zelda-likes but not really many 3D zelda-likes

still one of my favorite zeldas. i love so much about it, and it looks great on my OLED tv. very happy.

i had to reset the wiimote a ton during the wii days, and that has definitely carried over here -- i'm resetting a lot. it's partially habit. i might not even need to do so some of the times, yet i am just constantly pressing Y.

sometimes they keep newer stuff behind the cash register in the electronics section.

realized this during the PS5 launch days, trying to find accessories. They had a bunch of PS5 stuff in a cabinet underneath the register booth.

I ended up deciding on motion controls but like yeah it makes no sense. Like people say its a design concession but the concession didn't need to be made. Make it so L1 pulls out and sheaths the sword. When its put away you can control the camera and when its out you can't. Boom.

Exactly. I don't know why Nintendo took the worse route instead.

What is the consensus on the sword movement being mapped to the right joystick? Does it feel okay? Or is it awkward?

After reading a bunch of replies about the controls and watching more video on the game and its flat and outdated textures I wonder why Nintendo didn't do a full remake made for Switch?

I mean it was so easy to just center the camera with the targeting button in the original, free camera isn't all that necessary, y'all making me feel like some "in my day" old man. Some games are different, just get used to it.

no, every game has to play like every other game of its kind or it's a failing of the designers

Any thoughts on the 5.1 mix? Character grunts that are positionally in front of me are being played pretty prominently in the rear speakers and I don't like it. Can anyone tell if they actually updated this with a true 5.1 mix? It's a Wii game so I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.

Finally jumped in tonight. I don't remember how the beginning dragged in the original, as I played it when it came out. But I think I only played for an hour and I'm already in Faron Woods.

If this requires the sword to be unsheathed before attacking an enemy then that would make the combat more cumbersome. Right now, unsheathing happens automatically once you flick the right analog stick, which is inherently more convenient.

I do think there should be a toggle option to switch between camera and attack mode so that you don't have to hold down the L bumper if you don't want to though, so it's unfortunate that we don't have that option.

I would definitely not prefer that, but as an option sure

I found myself frustrated with the button controls until I started pulling my hand away from the right stick during exploration. This way I don't accidentally go for it for camera control, and I can just use ZL like in the original. Sure, it isn't perfect, but it's all jiving better now for me.

Ideally I would have liked to just be able to swap the function of holding L. Let me hold L to swing the sword, not move the camera.

It is both ok and awkward. Sometimes it works great, other times less so. I find most enemies are ok to defeat, but the Girahim fi
Gaepora has some fugly bug eyes.
Lol, yeah. I get the design, but him being the second NPC you get a good look at at the start of the game is kind of jarring and off putting.

NGL I'm actually liking button controls because it's kind of refreshing to be using the right stick for something other than only camera control lol.

At the volcano region now. From character design, music, and gameplay, Skyward Sword really is the Saturday morning cartoon of the Zelda series, to me, even moreso than Wind Waker. It's odd but also nostalgic to revisit all the Wii-audience centric game elements Nintendo worked into the Zelda formula. I'm not really a fan of it, but now I look at it like a historical relic of a very different console.

First time playing this, almost to faron woods.

I actually…like the motion controls? It took a minute to get used to but I'm digging it.

It's wild in hindsight seeing all the foundation being laid for BOTW

It's my first time playing this too and I like Skyward Sword's Link and Zelda FAR MORE than BOTW's Link and Zelda.

5 hours into the game now and finished the first dungeon and just flying around the sky. Absolutely loving the game despite it showing its age. Using button controls and slowly getting used to camera and sword controls.

Seeing some mechanics that ended up being core to BOTW in earlier form is kinda fascinating

I'm kind of glad I never played this game back in the day. Having a new (to me) traditionalish 3D Zelda is making me feel weirdly nostalgic. Having a great time with it—the soundtrack is gorgeous, the art style reminds me ofTWW with how expressive and colorful it is, and the motion controls add a bit more engagement for me. Some of them feel kind of tacked on (controlling the Loftwing and Beetle, etc.), but they're worth it for the sword.

I'm loving replaying this again after ten years, but this has probably been mentioned in here already and it's a little annoying and perplexing… how did they mess up the color indicators for the Joy-Cons? lol

EDIT: Okay, I am wrong. They did not. It's really weird, but the joycon that come packaged with the switch and as seen in images, have the right joy-con as Red, and the left Joy-Con as Blue. When I purchased replacement Joy-Cons, the colors are opposite. My right is blue and my left is red. So weird.
