The gameplay is awesome IMO! Combat is really fun.It is legitimately bewildering whenever I see people act like the game didn't have amazing gameplay, movie my ass
Definitely. I'm actually surprised they rushed through a few of the awards again since that seemed to be a big criticism of the last years shows.I think a big first step for the show would be to move more trailers into the pre-show and stop giving out the awards in the pre-show and offscreen (not sure if they did the offscreen thing this year, but I know it happened in previous years). Also, tone down the rapid fire award stuff because it feels like they are doing it "to keep up the pretense of an award show" and then rushing back to trailers; it reminds me of a kid complaining and then scarfing down their vegetables so they can get to desert.
Among Us did too. But AC should win because it has a higher budget/marketing?
It's just their opinion on best game.
Spoiler thread(s) had plenty of intelligent, respectful discussions on it for months.
We discuss what some call the short comings a fair amount in the spoiler thread.
But most other threads end up a certain way because of BS on both sides.
True True! I should have clarified more. I peeked into the Spoiler thread earlier this week, and it was great. Lots of discussion on which parts landed and didn't for different users. I feel like when the discussion is considered "within the community" it's very civil.I feel like there's this weird sentiment among some where they essentially assume the gameplay in any Western, high budget, cinematic and narrative heavy game is automatically poor, even though as yourself and others have mentioned, some of these games have class leading or top tier gameplay and systems. It's like they can't see past the production values lol.
There's been plenty of thoughtful, mature and detailed discourse about the game on these forums. There will however always be hot takes, that's just the nature of online discourse.
whatWhat's sad is the fact that what you probably consider 'real' games couldn't beat a "movie".
Keighley really needs to learn to say no to some stuff, the show was packed so I think they felt the need to rush in every segment. There was definitely stuff that didn't need to be there but they need to pay the bills I guess.Definitely. I'm actually surprised they rushed through a few of the awards again since that seemed to be a big criticism of the last years shows.
Why are we using semantics when we know fully well what the title means...? This is reminding me of discussions over what MVP means in sports.
The rest of your argument isn't really relevant. And again, stop using a fucking pandemic as support for an argument on why a video game deserves an award.
Technically speaking, it's the most impressive game I've ever played, so... 🤷♂️
Point me to anyone defending Captain Marvel as an unimpeachable work of art in 2020. People/critics were able to comment on the toxic context around the film while also pointing out that it was a messy origin story that didn't have a good handle of the character yet.nope it won't and we know why discourse around it will never get solved just like last jedi and captain marvel before it,
it's not just that but it does make it hard when one of the sides is filled with incels, homophobes, and misogynist, so people in turn go extra hard in defending it.Point me to anyone defending Captain Marvel as an unimpeachable work of art in 2020. These straw men people make up that imply the only reason people defend TLJ or TLOU 2 is to virtue signal are so weird.
Yo, spoilers wtf

Edit: Plenty of people have posted in this thread that they're excited to play this game still
Right obviously, im just throwing a dumb answer out to this already insane logic they are presenting.
That's a pretty deep question for 4:15am lol. Having people suggest the only reason people wanted it to win was to spite 4Chan is pretty shitty though. It was one of the main pillars around me finally accepting my trans identity and self, and moving toward transition. Funnily enough not in Lev, but the validation found through Ellie and Dina's relationship, and Abby as a woman that defied traditional views of femininity. As a consequence the game means a sincere amount on a personal level, in addition to being a great game in general. On the topic of Lev I'll say I don't think it was dire as others found it, but I'd have stopped at the single deadname instance and not had the whole mother bit. There's a lot more between those lines but that's the general bullets around the aspects I wasn't fond of. I think having something akin to the Dino museum where he explores a more joyful past section expanding and touching on his identity would have worked wonders to complement.
The fact that this game broke so many people, and not just alt-right/GG types, is just fascinating to me.
Like, people even in this thread are acting like ND actually assaulted his employees or something. Just drove some people truly mad.
No other game was more impactful in 2020 than TLOU2, in good ways and in bad. It's far and away one of the most important games of all time.
had a good laugh at this lmao, thanks
But in the year 2020 there was better games, it was the one time to show that big budget movie like games aren't the instant win. That the year of release actually meant something.
Animal Crossings was the game that brought people together while hundreds of thousands died. Think about that.
You felt that AC was the better game, others didn't, that's all there is to it. You can prop up AC without belittling TLOU2s accomplishments.More critics enjoyed it, not more people
jesus Christ are we going to forget what we were doing in March? It's a game that brought people together during a time no one in my lifetime ever experienced. That has to be accounted for.
Sure, TGAs isn't the Oscars and there is definitely work to be done. But considering the Oscars is put out by a rich and established community and committee of the film industry and TGAs is pretty much just Geoff, I understand if TGAs isn't on the level of the Oscars.
I'm looking forward to seeing the show evolve and grow.

i apologize if this is considered a derail. How do you think ND handle trans representation in this game? I know a lot of people felt Lev was nothing more than a trans misery porn character...had to kill his moms, watched his sister die a terrible death, gets dead named. Curious to know your thoughts.
For sure.It is legitimately bewildering whenever I see people act like the game didn't have amazing gameplay, movie my ass
There's really people in here stanning for Animal Crossing not for its gameplay and mechanical depth, but because of its...popularity lol.
So the most popular and culturally relevant game should win every year? Call of Duty or FIFA the winners every year confirmed. Well, outside of the odd zeitgeist games like Fortnite, Fall Guys, Among Us, Minecraft, Roblox etc.

Word. I love Animal Crossing but Fortnite and Destiny were the games to bring me together with friends and help provide an anchor through lockdowns. Even through to now.Why do AC fans love to bring that up ever since GOTY season started. people played other online games during pandemic old and new. That's not that special about AC and it's exclusive so the vast majority of gamers didn't even touch it.

If you ran out of salt and want some, take a look at the dislikes and the comments
so much salt for everyone.

Yakuza 0 is the first game I started, is it better saved for later? I know it was released later but I never looked up the preferred order.Well deserved. Great gameplay with probably one of the best written stories in the medium. Hopefully Neil can get ND to not crunch their workers tho.
