Let me put it this way, they are one of the best gaming studios but they are better at storytelling than games. It's no wonder we are getting an HBO series from this game.

You can be great at storytelling and still release a competent game (as they continue to do). SO, no, I see no reason for them to go anywhere. And the HBO thing is irrelevant.

the game is not getting 10's everywhere...relax...sounds like a great game but I've seen some 8's (which is still a great game)...it's interesting that no one takes IGN seriously for any other game but when it gives a 10/10 to LoU2 everyone immediately points to that review...stop it

...wat?

Fascinating that Polygon and Eurogamer basically sit exactly opposite on the violence/meaning issue. Polygon says they do nothing with it and it's misery porn; EG says, To call this misery porn is a misunderstanding. Very interesting.
Hmmm. Yup gonna just have to play this myself. Hopefully it lives up to the majority hype.

Not everything has to be create-your-own-story with dialogue wheel and all that shite. I wanna see what story ND wants to tell instead of them trying to create an illusion that my story is unique and different from all the rest.

True, I just think they are the best storytellers in the industry and I would prefer to see the story without having to go through the sometimes mundane gameplay (thinking mostly Uncharted here).

Seems like the one constant, even in the good reviews, is that the player has no agency over the characters.. I still think ND would be a better movie studio but that's just me.
Because it is not a role playing game, you are just there for the ride.
TLoU final segment made that clear with Joel's decision. How are people missing this?

More on how the game's brutality is not necessarily as thought-provoking as they'd like it to be, from Polygon:

This quote sure is something.

the game is going to average out in the low 90's...excellent score but not the mid to upper 90's the hard core fans wanted and expected

I skipped through his review and he evokes comparisions to the new star wars trilogy and the 8th season of game of thrones.

He feeds a certain userbase that wanted to hate the game because of the leaks. Sad to see that he can't be more professional.

Nobody needs to like the game but the framing of his review alone look like big red flags for me.

all you need to know about skillup is present in the laymen gaming channel.

Review: The Last Of Us 2 Is The Best Game Of Its Generation

Although players will find themselves on a blood-soaked adventure that sends its characters on a violent and controversial quest for revenge, The Last of Us Part II feels like the next logical step in this story. Technically and narratively, it's easily one of the best games available for the...

Not going to read any reviews as I am sure there are spoilers. Honestly, i'm expecting the game to be extremely uncomfortable at parts. Hope I can stomach it

This comes off as I was uncomfortable killing characters I developed some empathy for...I don't see the issue...the point of the game seems to be there is no real redeeming aspect in the cycle of revenge. That is a powerful message...you can't undergo the kinds of experiences Ellie has and do the things she has done and fundamentally remain what people in more stable situations would consider a 'good' person

I see the single post saying negative things about reviewers has been dunked on approximately 100 times.

Surely gamerz™ will take this as a respectable opinion and read the review fully without assuming a game they haven't played is absolutely perfect.

Surely.

We're going to have a READ STAFF POST in less than an hour aren't we.

Yeah man it's totally those GAMERZ that are going to turn the thread into a shitshow and DEFINITELY not posts like this.

Did we not just have people buying up all the toilet paper and try to profit from it? Do we not have millions of people protesting because cops all over the world are killing black folks and everybody else is just enabling it? What a tone deaf comment for the reviewer to make IMO.
We have cops casually kneeling on people's necks until they die like it's no big deal. And an entire portion of this country that is ok with it. Some even going as far as running over or shooting people that dare protest.

We must not live in the same country.
Has this guy been in a coma for the past few months?

I added the paragraph before that chunk to my original post. It explains their viewpoint al little more thoroughly.

Well how can you be objective if you're upset by violence that isn't even real? Like people crying over killing dogs made of pixels. Who are these people?!

I take issue with this point. Obviously we haven't played the game but I could totally see valid criticism if someone felt the game was brutal just for the sake of it and failed to push and meaningful message behind it.
