Im playing on hard and normally you hav to push the left stick very slightly in order to not to be heard by clickers, but I discovered that if you use listen mode you can get behind the clickers and they wont hear you! This only helps if you hav upgraded your speed while using listen mode.

Just wanted to put that out there in case no one knew haha

Neat thing about this is that Ellie is listening to that song in the beginning and Joel's walk to her is quite similar to the trailer.

Now I'm not sure and I just replayed it before this game too 🤔
I'm like 99,9999% sure there's nothing like that in the main game. It was a pretty big selling point for Left Behind. And there were no people in the sewers so I don't know how they could've fought infected there.

I think they mean the subway tunnels when the Boston FEDRA soldiers are hunting you? I don't remember any opportunity to sick infected on them though.

Sorry, not sewers. I'm not sure how to describe the area, but it was the one that leads into you falling into the water right before the hospital. Trying to find it in a longplay, I might be just misremembering.

Edit: I must be losing it, because I can't find the section I'm remembering.

Yea those were the two games I was thinking of, along with parts of the Uncharted games too, but they still lack the emotional impact of TLOU2, and also don't have the same complexity of interconnected weaving of timelines and perspectives.

As much as I enjoy the very simplistic story and characters in Uncharted, TLoU2 is so much more ambitious in its storytelling and characters. Its very risky stuff to the point where I understand the criticisms that it feels flat and pretentious but the praise it gets from its storytelling is equally deserved and ND knew it'd be divisive

One thing I don't see praised much or maybe I have missed it are the loading times, hitting the restart checkpoint and knowing it would load very fast made me very happy, especially since I was always trying to go for near perfect runs or just wanted to replay that whole section and see how I could approach it differently.

I think this game will be better the second time through, I am trying to power through and marathon this game and every time I think I am close I get another upgrade tree lol.

I'm in the second half and thought I was close but nope another path. This is basically 2 games at this point. It's a game that's probably best played over a month and where you can reflect on the story after each session, there are so many story beats its hard to remember everything that happened.

The gameplay is phenomenal though and on hard you really feel like you are fighting for your life in each encounter. Fighting humans is actually fun in this one, infected are better than the last one and has the best infected class, Stalkers.

TPS mechanics so far only 2nd to MGSV

Just finished it...

I need a second play through to confirm for sure (though a second play through has never changed my opinion of any game I've ever played), and I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I honestly believe this may actually be my favourite game of all time.

To put that into perspective, my fave game of all time hasn't changed in 23 years. Hell, my top 2 hasn't changed in 16 years. That's how much of an impact this game had on me, not necessarily just in terms of narrative or characterisation, but the gameplay for me is simply without peer in the genre, as are the visuals and sound design. Everything about it was just benchmark pushing.

This was a massive, unique, rivetting and immensely powerful experience, from beginning to end, one that I don't think I'll ever forget.

I feel like it put me through the entire gamut of emotions, and was packed to the brim full of incredible and memorable moments. My jaw was on the floor more times than I could count.

I can't believe how meaty the experience and journey was too, almost as if it could have been multiple games worth in terms of overall content.

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't without its faults, for example the pacing was off here and there, I feel there could be more environmental or artistic diversity (too much takes place in a dreary Seattle), I also feel a few characters were slightly undercooked and their fates lacking a bit of impact as a result, but these things are mostly nitpicks. The game ultimately had more highs than any game I've played in recent memory.

Despite the original still to this day being one of the best games ever made, with one of gamings best stories and set of characters, the sequel somehow makes it seem slightly small in comparison. The sequel is bigger, deeper, bolder, more daring and more complex in almost every way, for me it's the overall better game too.

Amusingly, I was one of those who wasn't sure if I wanted a sequel or if one was even necessary, but what a fool I was.

I want to do a proper in-depth review at some point, but thought I'd just post a summary of thoughts following completion.

Good to hear broski. Our tastes normally align so I'm sure I'll be right there with you

Boss fight area complaint
Day 2 with Abby, the mega infected in the basement of the hospital. I wasn't able to beat it until I cranked the brightness and contrast all the way up. That area is way too dark and the flashlight is useless. You can't see where you're going, what they layout is, and sometimes even where the boss is. Incredibly frustrating.

Ugh I'll probably only have time to play for like 30 minutes today. Can anyone tell me how much I have left?
I just started Day 3 with Abby.

Goddamnit, love the game, been playing slowly but hit a nasty bug today.

After exciting Dome, and walking towards Valiant Music Store, Ellie just drops throught the ground and dies. I've tried to reload, walk in from different angles and it happens everytime..

Anybody else have it happen to them?

Hmm...I guess I just officially transitioned into the "second half" of the game. I'm not really compelled by anything from the narrative of the first half that I feel a need to do this, but as long as the environments and set pieces are there, I'll probably enjoy it.

Honestly
Dina's predicament
is more interesting to me than anything happening with any of the main characters right now.

Buckle up, you're in for a ride. The set pieces in the "second half" are easily the best in the game.

Finished the game a couple days ago and am already pining for the inevitable PS5 update. The gameplay here would be absolutely glorious at 60fps.

Finally got my copy yesterday and spent most of last evening playing it. Gameplay is mostly iterative of the first game, but mostly improved so far. I'm still on Seattle Day 1 so most of thoughts stem only from the beginning.

I went in to this game pretty dark, I didn't get spoiled or watch any of the previews or promotional stuff. I only knew it was a revenge story and I had assumed that the catalyst for Ellie's revenge would be her romantic partner. Imagine my surprise when Joel is brutally murdered within the first 2 hours of the game. In hindsight, I suppose this was blatantly obvious to most even before the game came out, but it definitely got me.

I do hope there is more to the story than the sins of the father passed down to the daughter perpeuating an unnecessary cycle of violence. Some reviews were pretty critical of the seemingly boilerplate revenge story but I hope the game can still surprise me on this. The fact that Joel's killer seems to be the major secondary playable character is already kind of interesting.

Really excited to keep at it though, as everything else is pretty on point so far.

Finished the game. It was good but I'd say it's inferior on basically every level except maybe gameplay and cinematography. Weaker story, development spread out among characters so there's no relationship as deep as Ellie and Joel in the first one, the guitar stuff was cool but the in-game music wasn't quite as good (the main memorable track was the latter half encounter music), pacing was whack and the game was a good 30% longer than it needed to be.

Gameplay was easier than the first one and I felt the AI was super exploitable with how easily you could break line of sight and loop them into walking into you. Also the ally AI issues were still there, they blocked me constantly and would still sometimes run directly in front of enemies. It was good and definitely felt MGSV inspired with some of the things like the dive to crouch.

Visually the game is great but I actually have a lot of issues with how lighting and clarity was handled, encounters in dark/high contrast areas were a real struggle. I didn't want to crank up the brightness when I never had to for games like Resident Evil. Feels like they kind of sacrificed an easily parsed image for a constantly beautiful one. Same with sound design. They went for super realistic, which just meant some lines were just completely inaudible and I had to use subtitles.

I dunno. I'm a little disappointed but I knew going into this, especially after Uncharted 4, that it would probably be a let down. It's like an 8.5/10 I guess.

I am not finished yet, but appreciate this thoughtful review, your perspective will help me push on. (I only game in small bites...)

-Character and relationships: agreed, so far. Felt this game could have used another character like Bill from Bill's town to add depth/age/perspective. It's like they are setting up a Seven Samurai/Kurosawa moral universe but...so far...the depth of the character beats in this one are not at that level. Maybe this will come.
-Gameplay and cinematography: the stand out here for me is immersive flow into and out of action sequences and settings.
-Music: yeah, weird, outside of game time, I find myself humming the first game's music. (Feels like those guitar licks were written in to my brain.)
-Ally AI and exploitable AI: I've seen the first plenty, and the second pattern is starting to make itself more clear. I've had moments where two quick thinking actions have bought me more space and time than I expected, but I've died enough that I'm leaving my difficulty settings at hard.
-You mention RE and "super realism." That's the thing that makes this so bleak for me, but also raises a kind of fundamental question of the framing. RE is a different "fun" kind of horror and the setting is comic book over realistic. Here the realism makes things like carelessness and carefree moments feel gratuitous. They are needed to build the tension, but with everything we've seen and what is at stake it's like the realism cuts the other way, as well:
Shouldn't Jackson and WLF have much more careful and rigorous patrols, don't think the brothers should be patrolling together, and, if captured and outnumbered, would never have given up their real names. This kind of carefulness with strangers was already covered in the David story so I felt that this was just head scratching to me for this to be the founding moment/mistake of this game.
-On that topic, I think the thing that makes this emotionally hard in some ways is NOT actually the violence or the narrative (which are present in plenty of other entertainment) it's the level of detail given to what a proximate societal collapse could look like in the USA. I'm older GenX and I just don't think people understand how rare it is to experience the kind of peaceful and stable society that has marked the G7 world (Japan/NA/Western Europe) in my lifetime. Again, nothing new in fiction (Warriors, Walking Dead, Humans) but it's important not to fall into the trap of not recognizing the 'survival porn' aspects of the setting. There are plenty of people living, right now, in places where they are experiencing levels of human violence and dislocation that are this extreme and worse, and it goes without saying that if, as a planet, we don't get a handle on CO2 emissions...stories of abandoned, present-day major cities will not be the realm of history books, science fiction and video games.

I know I shouldn't care about the Metacritic user score, but it is slowly going upwards. It's now 4.4, compared with 3.3 on release. Hopefully the upward trend continues as more people actually play and finish the game?

I upgraded my TV from a 10 year old LCD to a new 55 inch QLED midgame.

Everything looks better and worse at the same time.

I didn't even notice the film grain before, but now? Holy shit

What bummed me about the game is that i spend 12 hours wanting shit to end, then when it finally got gud again it ends in an hour

no for real tho why won't this end?

It legit jumped the shark about 1 hour ago. I mean, the gameplay is still fantastic, but theres NO reason for this to still be going.

It should have ended
at the farm
this is just silly now in my opinion.

I think we must have played a very different game. This game is so above and beyond everything else in the industry that I don't see any other studio topping this for a very long time and probably until the next Naughty Dog game. I beat the game this morning and nothing, nothing comes close to what I had just played through and experienced the last 5 days. The storytelling is complex and extremely well done, I can see the heavy HBO/Westworld influence with the branching storylines and cutting back and forth in time.

The Best "Interactive Experience" of All Time, because calling this just a game is a disservice to what Naughty Dog pulled off here. While you're entitled to your own opinion, there is a reason why unanimously almost everyone is calling this a masterpiece, it is simply the best game I have ever played period. You might not have liked it yourself as much but it doesn't change the fact that this is the evolution of the medium playing out right in front of us.

Playing anything else immediately after LOU2 is so jarring and such a step down that it really makes you appreciate what was created by this massively talented studio and writers. RDR2 is the only thing I can think of that comes remotely close.

Would someone mind giving a rough idea of how far I've got to go?
I've just had the 'encounter' with Owen on the boat at the aquarium and heading off to look for the two kids after dreaming about them

Thanks!

Have to say that I have loved the game so far, and far from the second half dragging as I've seen some suggest, from a story point the game has become so much more interesting and complex. I'm really impressed and will struggle to hold off on replaying before the inevitable ps5 remaster.

One of the weirdest things in terms of game design that I've ever seen is that dumpster outside of the Serevena somehow moving to not allow the player back inside...like why??? And if you HAD to do it, why not have it make sense? So so weird lol.

EDIT: Thinking on it...maybe they did that because the transition into the room the 2 tied up WLF are in was a cutscene and they didnt add any code to allow that door to open without one and that room is the only way out of the compound....

In which case why not just have a way back out in the front gate?? So weird lol

Gameplay is not a maybe for me. It's much better than the first. Level design, encounter design, systems, puzzles, exploration: all better in this. I'd say it's the best WWS game in terms of pure gameplay (and technical prowess).

I'm sure they had to do it for streaming reasons, loading in the next part of the level, but yes, they could have used something that breaks down soon as the player is over the fence so you see immediately that this was a one time entry point.

Can someone give me an idea roughly how many more hours I have left? I think I'm near the end.
Abby just had a nightmare (on the boat with Owen) about the two scar kids and has now decided to go find them.
