With launch fast approaching, today we're excited to share a comprehensive overview of the accessibility features that will be available in The Last of Us Part II when it releases on June 19. From the very beginning, our goal has been to ensure that as many fans as possible have an opportunity to experience the game through our most robust accessibility feature set to-date. Building upon the foundations we established with Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, The Last of Us Part II features more than 60 accessibility settings, with expanded options focused on fine-motor and hearing, as well as completely new features that benefit low-vision and blind players. We encourage everyone to take advantage of these features to create a gameplay experience that's right for them.

Alternate Controls
For the first time in a Naughty Dog game, we are offering full control customization. This allows you to remap every command to a different controller input, including touchpad swipes and controller shake. Because holding or rapidly tapping buttons can be challenging for some players, we have individual options to change every button hold into a toggle, and every rapid press into a hold. Returning from Uncharted 4, we also provide expanded options for camera assistance and lock-on aim.
Magnification and Visual Aids
Text, UI, and gameplay elements that are too small or difficult to read can be frustrating. To address these issues, we created options to fine-tune the HUD size, color, and contrast. Our new High Contrast Display is a special render mode that provides more contrast for in-game elements. We also provide a Screen Magnifier, which allows you to zoom-in on any part of the screen using the DualShock 4 touchpad.

Motion Sickness
Simulated 3D movement can be a source of motion sickness for many players. To create a more visually comfortable experience, we provide options to adjust camera shake, motion blur, camera follow distance, and even field of view. We also provide an option for a persistent white dot in the center of the screen, which can alleviate the sensation.

Text-to-Speech and Audio Cues
Any information that is only represented visually is unavailable to a blind player. To address this discrepancy, we created several options to convey this information through sound and controller vibration instead. Traversal and Combat Audio Cues work alongside the game's audio to map easily identifiable sounds to commonly used actions (scavenging pickups, jumping across gaps, dodging incoming melee attacks, etc.). These audio cues are catalogued in an audio glossary that you can refer back to at any time. Additionally, our menus and other on-screen text can be voiced using the Text-To-Speech* option. For those that have their language set to English and Text-to-Speech* enabled at the console level, The Last of Us Part II will automatically enable Text-to-Speech for you in-game.
* Text-to-speech features available in all supported languages**, except for Thai

Combat Accessibility
Because we want combat in The Last of Us Part II to be accessible for all players, we provide a number of options that can significantly alter the gameplay experience. For instance, the Invisible While Prone feature allows you to experience stealth gameplay that might otherwise be inaccessible. If you have difficulty aiming, you can give yourself more time by enabling Slow Motion while aiming. Our goal is to provide you with all the tools you need to make the combat experience enjoyable and challenging.

Game Difficulty
As an extension of our accessibility features, The Last of Us Part II also includes expanded difficulty options. At launch, we provide five different challenge levels: Very Light, Light, Moderate, Hard, and Survivor. We also allow you to customize specific aspects of difficulty to your needs or desired experience. You can individually tweak difficulty settings related to incoming damage, enemy and ally effectiveness, stealth, and resources. Trophies are not limited by difficulty.

Insane amount of options. Wonder what speedruns will look like.

This is all so fucking awesome, should be the industry standard.
Not every team has the capacity or time to implement all of this though. Not all devs have the luxury of having an external accessibility team like PlayStation does.

These options are so great. Props to ND for making the game as accessible as possible. Other developers need to take note of this moving forward.

Trophies not being limited by difficulty is interesting. Guessing this will be an easier plat than the original.

This suite of options is one of the most impressive things I've seen in a game.

"Trophies are not limited by difficulty."

Seems like they want everyone to be able to earn the Plat no matter what. I love it.

All in all; those options are amazing!

Speed Force
Remap to touchpad swipe? Yessss. Can't believe we had touchpad swipes with Killzone at launch and nobody built meaningful on it until the end of the console's life

And no difficulty trophies is interesting. Very out of the norm for ND. Wonder how they'll make it any kind of challenge? Also no broken trophies like the conversation one in TLOU1 please (that didn't get fixed in the PS4 ver)

That's a lot. Every game should basically aspire to have this kind of accessibility. Except for fromsoft games of course.

A shame that there's no gyro aiming, but there are some great options there despite gyro's glaring absence.

FoV slider. Thank you.

Difficulty trophies would've made no sense when you have configurable difficulty.

This is going to backfire on us. Part II's Road to Platinum will be more merciful than Part I, but the MP title will be even more brutal to make up for it LOL

That's an insane amount of options!

I thought God of War was an exception, but it looks like PlayStation Studios are also changing their point of view regarding the Trophies (no more difficulty related).

Thought there was a thread about this already. Either way, it's always great to see accessibility options being developed, and seeing so many of them being offered in TLOU2 is pretty awesome.

Besides Uncharted almost no Sony Game this Gen had difficulty related Trophies. Horizon, Days Gone, Spider-Man, Death Stranding all of those had no Trophies for Difficulty.

I hate to be "well actually" but Horizon does have a difficulty related trophy. They added Ultra Hard after the fact and so there is a trophy finishing the game on that difficulty. It is not part of the main trophy list and as such is not required for the platinum.

Horizon: Zero Dawn and Spider-Man actually have difficulty Trophies, some added with a NG+ patch. I forgot about about Days Gone (I don't own the game), and I didn't expect Death Stranding to follow this trend anyway.

Nice, I think I'll play survivor difficulty with some tweak to Ellie's health to be more forgiving. I mainly want the survivor enemy AI but didn't want to die as often

The motion sickness options are big for me. I get motion sick when I play Apex & Titanfall 2. Wish more games had options for that kind of thing.

Thank god. Grounded on TLOU 1 is insane and I don't want to get that trophy at all.

Really cool to see these accessibility options :D

I already loved Naughty Dog, now I REALLY love Naughty Dog. I typically never buy games until they're at CAG-level prices but I will pre-order TLOU2 full price.
