Out of curiosity, does this game happen to have more voice acted segments? I always thought it was a shame the series didnt lean into the voice cast more as time went on; I really liked when PWvsPL had the breakdowns voiced but AA5 & 6 didn't iirc.

Not really, mostly just during the animated cutscenes like 5/6, plus the case intros and sometimes outros.

Huh, I just realized that we now have two characters in the series that are named "Iris".

I guess with so many named characters we were bound to come up to an identical name somewhere.

Wh... whaaaaaat?! This is awesome news!

Also, I didn't realize this is the 20th anniversary of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Completely forgot the first three games were originally on GBA in Japan.

Best part is (if we count the AAI2 and DGS fan translations) we have two Simon's and three characters with "Patrol" as their pun name (well, four, since one of them is two characters whose names combine), lmao.

oh British accents for the Japanese characters? yeah throw this game in the trash. it was a mistake.
It's like how in the Japanese version when the characters are supposed to be speaking English, they're actually speaking Japanese!

On a more serious note, I've met people in Japan who learned English from British teachers and have British accents, so that seems like a fair way to implement English for characters who can actually speak English in the game.

That's my take on it, at least. Even if they were unlikely to learn English from a native speaker in this time period...

In universe, they're all speaking English when in England. It's been a funny irony these past years. People want these games translated into English, but the characters are all speaking English in-world already; it's just the game text that's Japanese.

I might hold out for a mobile port on this. I feel like playing it on my iPhone has always been best and this game works better on a small screen imo

Well... you might be waiting a while, they pulled DGS 1 and 2 from IOS and Android stores (as well as 3DS) back in November, no idea why.

Yeah, it's always funny to try and think logically about these things.

If anyone needs head canon, just imagine the game is subbed for your convenience. And if you're really hardcore, you'll change the game's audio depending on where there characters are!

Why did this have to release on the exact same day as TWEWY NEO? Why are they making me choooose?

It is funny how they took this opportunity to recenter the series around its Japanese roots, eg with Payne's ancestor Auchi (the jpn name of the character's family) etc

The untapped market of Ace Attorney porn parodies.

Objection!

It's the perfect opportunity really. They don't have to walk back on what they've done with the Phoenix timeline (in the future) with the whole ancestral spin.

Guess it's official that Phoenix Wright and the Payne family are from Japanese descent. Haha.

Sorry if this has been answered already, but is there a second physical release combining GAA Chronicles and PW Trilogy, or am I misunderstanding?

GAA boxart is so nice, will be really happy to have this on Switch.

There is, and it's Japan exclusive. For Switch and PS4. You'd have to import it from Amazon JP, PlayAsia, etc.

In the AA localisation universe, America might very well be Japan anyway.
I'll give you what you want

Isn't the explanation that the series take place in a timeline where the U.S didn't bank Asian immigrant and thus a whole bunch of Japanese moved to California?

Just saw on the PS blog comments from a Capcom rep that preorder's won't be live for a while 😪. Just want that little countdown on the icon that I stare at every day, please Capcom.

There's a canon explanation? Lol. I always thought it was just one of those things we don't ask about.
That's a CrazyTheory coming from a CrazyDude!!

🤣
When I took over the series' localization direction starting with the second game, one of the first things I had to deal with was what to do with Maya's hometown and all the mysticism surrounding the Fey clan. It was then that I created a little headcanon for myself (which I suppose is actually real canon now for the localized version): while "Gyakuten Saiban" takes place in Japan, the Los Angeles that "Ace Attorney" takes place in is an alternate universe where anti-Japanese sentiments and anti-immigrant laws were not enacted, and Japanese culture was allowed to flourish and blend into the local culture in the same manner as other immigrant cultures.

Yeah, that's Janet Hsu's (the lead localizer) view of the localization. From her blog:

Not counting budget and time restraints, this little headcanon has pretty much dictated what I would keep as Japanese and what to completely localize. For example, anything related to Maya's clan and the Kurain Channeling Technique is pretty much guaranteed to stay Japanese because that's her heritage while Japanese foods that are not commonly known in the West will probably be localized in the interest of keeping the game from needing a 50-page explanatory booklet.

i mean they already completely destroyed the rule of law in the game lol so I don't get too worked up over why exactly california has entire villages of yomi worshippers or whatever
