They tend to include December releases in the GotY line up as it wasn't quite eligible for GotY awards before then

That's really the biggest omission from this, but like I said, it being from a niche genre/franchise hurt it.

That said, pleasantly surprised at Smash getting a GOTY nod. It won't win, but it's great to see Sakurai getting the recognition he deserves.

Super Smash Bros is a sleeper GOTY pick I think. It has been a huge part of the gaming conversation throughout the year.
Personally I'm supporting Death Stranding.
