It genuinely lives up to the hype. It was one of the worst movies I've seen. I hate calling something "pretentious" as a form of criticism, but goddamn, talk about breathing in your own shit.I need to get around to watching Only God Forgives one of these days to see if it's really as bad as people say it is.
I truly love The Neon Demon and Valhalla Rising, which are other Refn films people call pretentious and overated and even I thought Only God Forgives was the worst movie I saw that year.It genuinely lives up to the hype. It was truly, actually, terrible. On like every front. Acting, dialogue, structure, etc -- it hardly holds together. It is the poster child for Pretense. It genuinely implies more meaning and intent than it actually has.
That's...going to be something. Why weren't episodes 1 and 2 shown? Because apparently each episode is a standalone.
Yep this. I'll watch this for the atmosphere and audio-visual treat alone.Who cares about the writer. This is 8-10 hours of Refn. Enjoy the ride, its going to be awesome.
Peter Bradshaw's a good critic so positive comments from him are promising. I see he also liked Only God Forgives (I did too though not as much as him) so it may not mean much for others who disliked it.
Critics Consensus: Grim and graphic, Too Old to Die Young is stylish, but its languid story does little to justify its violent tendencies-- though fans of Refn's may find enjoyment in its neon laden misery.
I nominate you!

If you have an LG B8 OLED, add the show to your amazon watchlist via a PC and then go to the app on your tv. Search for the show and Thank me later
Five minutes in and the monologue from his partner is making me uncomfortable. I hope this show doesn't double down on the misogynistic stuff. Beautifully shot thoughI can tell this is going to be polarizing, it's beautifully shot, and I always love the use of color in Winding Refns films. Some people definitely aren't gonna like how detached a lot of the characters feel.
I like what I've seen so far, but I don't think it will win NWR many new fans.
I thought you watched everything? ;)
Movie time cutting into TV time? Traitor.
Ed Brubaker is one of the best comic book writers in the business. His run on Captain America is what Winter Soldier is based on.I love Refn, not so much for his scripts but more that he's becoming a auteur. He always nails the look and music of his movies. I don't know this other writer but I'm glad he's working along side someone else on it.
Ok, starting the hype train.
Whew that's great to hear. I wasn't really looking forward to watching something that has 90+ minute episodes and now it sounds like I may not have to.Okay, I just watched the first episode. This is a seriously awful show.
It's pretentious beyond belief, features mind-numbing pauses between anything resembling plot development, the characters are devoid of any redeeming qualities. It just made me feel awful while watching it.
But what was your favorite part? The Dad growling at Miles Teller? The woman chained beaten mostly to death to a pole? The underage girl sex? The cop threatening to get rid of a ticket in exchange for sex?
None of this is engaging, and the visuals...well, get a new trick.
