Where in the canon does this stand? Time frame? I find more of the premovies content to be the best.

The High Republic. Which is the period in time preceding the movies by ~200 years. The Old Republic was a few thousand ago.

Making villain factions feel entirely new and different was a really big focus. As well as making the era feel very different from the prequels/OT/ST.
I thought they already launched the line already. May get into it if it turns out to be pretty good. I wish it was a little more multi-media than just books/comics.
So far there is death in every chapter. and a mention of porn and sex. If it is "YA" it likely skewers to the older side of it.
Usually I'm not interested in Star Wars novels as I feel they often overtly hinge on explaining and demistifying backstory and adding canon, which I don't need. But I might pick this up just because it's so completely new and I'm kind of interested in the direction they take (and probably it will be a sign of things to come in the tv and movie space)
I like Soule's non-SW comics and his two novels, so I'll get it.

Oh how original. This was essentially what Mandalorians were in the old EU. Space Vikings
Probably why it will likely just be a novel/comic book setting. And as usual I expect the comics to go in really stupid directions and ruin it all

What we know of the Nihil's culture and motivation makes them very very different from the Mandalorians.
These first 8 chapters are pretty damn compelling. Guess I'll have to read the whole thing.

The release of the novel was very unfortunately delayed by Covid.
Soule's Star Wars work has been good so I'm not surprised reactions are positive. I read the first chapter when it was released earlier this year and I'm picking the book up in January so I'll hold off on reading the rest.
With Claudia's new book coming soon afterwards hopefully it'll be a strong start.

I'll read anything Star Wars if it's written by Claudia Gray. She's written some of my absolute favorite books of the new Canon (Lost Stars being the standout).
I'm not completely sold on the time period - was hoping for something even further removed from the Skywalker Saga (like > 750 years or something), but this could be fine.
