The Amazon seasons definitely look higher-budget to me, personally.

They mentioned they didn't get a higher budget with Amazon, but I remember talking about this here and someone mentioned how there is a natural tendency for the series to look better as people get more used to making stuff. Or something like that. Personally I didn't notice any improvements, the series looks great on Amazon but it always did!

Fair enough!

Bittersweet that it's coming to an end now!

But damn, it could have been so so much worse, imagine now if all we got was season 3..

The synopsis almost makes it sound like Earth will get hit again with another rock? I know the books had a much more devastating asteroid hit. Is this it?

I hope Bull joins the cast.

It's a nice thought but effectively they are ending it early despite the favour of Bezos; I really can't think where else they could go and maintain the same production standards.

Could have been Apple but they have Foundation now.
They also have For All Mankind. Maybe it can be after a couple of year break, but Apple would be ideal.

I'm so happy this show gets to end. So many sci-fi shows always get cut short. I'm still pissed about Caprica.

Haha ugh. Okay I'll watch it and skip reading these spoilers. I really didn't feel the show but I am a huge sucker for sci-fi so maybe I'll finally "get" it like everyone else does. To this day I'm really really surprised it never clicked with me considering I devour even the cheesiest sci-fi media
It could be that it'll click for you this time, but if it doesn't start clicking by the end of season 3/book 3 then it probably isn't going to (and that's fine). I won't go into detailed spoilers since you're no longer asking for them, but I think there's one thing it's safe enough to say about The Expanse as an overall story, which is true for all of the books and all of the TV series, which is that it never stops being about human factionalism at its core. The events of the first few seasons/books get quickly overtaken by further plot developments, but the story remains one about humanity both pulling together and pulling apart.

Possibly. The teaser video seems to suggest that as well (unless it's meant to be footage of the previous attacks from another angle or something).

Maybe it's an attempt to gradually converge with the books.

Book 5 ended with a shattered Earth rallying its fleet to itself to defend against potential future attacks. Season 5 instead ended with a badly-bruised Earth preparing to take the fight to the Free Navy. The adaptation of the sixth book would be slightly tougher if Earth's running at anywhere close to normal capacity so maybe there's a few changes early in season 6 to push Earth closer to being fucked. That would raise a few questions about Avasarala's leadership, but would still be a relatively clean way to align the stories.

Whoah, only 6 episodes? I wonder if thats because of covid.

Every season of the show after 3 has imo been weaker than the previous season so I'm fine with it ending. I'll watch day 1 every episode and enjoy it, but honestly will probably like reading the final book more.

I can't say entirely why it hasn't clicked for me but that's certainly not an issue. Possibly budget in season one and two, maybe that fact that I liked books two and three but found them sort of boring. Even though I can pinpoint those two issues it's not as if I haven't enjoyed low budget sci-fi (Battlestar!) or plodding plots in the past. I think, ultimately, if I end up watching and finishing season three I'll probably be on board though, even if I don't hold it in the same esteem as other posters here do

While being sad it's ending I am sure they will find a nice way to wrap it up and leave stuff open for the future should the opportunity arise.

And most importantly, unlike with another huge book series, we will have a definitive ending with the books.

Would be disappointing if it's just six episodes that wrap up Inaros.

I would have preferred if they deviated from the books, because ending a fantastic television series with major plotlines around the protomolecule and ring creators left dangling would hurt quite a bit.

6 episodes has me extremely weary to wrap this up in any meaningful way but hyped af for this.

Yeah I am a little cautious, but certainly have way more faith that it won't be GoT level of shit last season. These creators actually care.

Six is fine for book six. Not for books six through nine, of course. But speaking as a book reader, I can say this does not look likely to attempt to do seven through nine.

This would be far more worrisome were it not for the fact that there's a great deal of evidence suggesting some form of continuation is in the works - miniseries probably being the likeliest imo.

Just makes me sad knowing it will wrap up with so much story left to tell. Here's to some other thirsty streaming company picking it up.

Apple is currently in a happy money spending mood, maybe they could throw money at it, though I guess they have their sci fi slot filled with Foundation.

Season 5 kind of bored me honestly. I wanted alien shit, but there was barely any of it. Just misery for most of the main characters and an antagonist I really don't give two shits about.

Still, I'm looking forward to see how it all ends.

I'm of the opposite. I thought season 5 was one of the best due to war.
I always liked the show because of the mystique and mystery, not because of the factions warring with eachother. But yeah, I get that people watch this show for different reasons. I'm just personally glad that it seems like season 6 is going to get back to that mystique and mystery aspect a bit, at least judging by how season 5 ended.

One of the reasons I live the show(there's so many). Is the Audacy to write human history unfold. I love the space exploration too.

We getting an OT for S6? Shame it's only 6 episodes. New Telltale game with Cara Gee as Drummer is cool.

Season 6 Ep 1 is live. Be sure to click on the bonus scene linked at the end popup called 'Ankawala' it feels pretty important, not sure why they cut it.

Same. I see the "where are the aliens" complaint a lot, but for me, introducing interstellar travel and then pivoting back to focus on how it destabilizes society in the Sol system instead of just doing "aliens sure are weird" for a few seasons is the coolest thing this story does.

Same. I thought the way the ring gates affected Martian society was super interesting. It completely wrecked their entire identity.

Yeah, as soon as they said that, I shouted out, "they killed him off-screen??" :(
