WOW, that looks like itll be an amazing season. I know people werent super thrilled with Season 4, but I think it did a great job showing where everything was at, before they could get to this stuff.

Did they say if it was going to be weekly releases or all in one again?
3 episodes initially, then weekly.

Oh damn, its the same as The Boys release structure. 3 episodes the first week, then 1 each week after.

Too many ystories involving that character in the books for them to kill him off in the tv show.
They could recast or just delegate his actions to someone else. This is verging on book spoiler territory so putting it in tags:

Alex does lots of plot-relevant stuff in the books after Nemesis Games, but although those things are important, it's not important that they be done by Alex specifically. He only has two viewpoint chapters in Babylon's Ashes, and after that the time jump provides the perfect opportunity for a recast of character or for the show to introduce an Alex substitute.

I'm pretty sure that's a placeholder date, at least I'm hoping it's a placeholder. Only 2021 was given as the release period.
Yeah I guess. Maybe they can just recast him with someone else. Happened on GoT.

So were still just doing the belters versus earth and mars again. I feel like that's getting pretty old.

Thanks for the replies, you two. I agree %100 with both viewpoints which is why I didn't post the part about Alex yesterday and forgot to remove it when talking about the release date.

As much as I loved Cas Anvar, he is gonna drag this down. Those allegations are far too many to be fake. I think they should kill him off screen...and get Riz Ahmed instead (please!)

so what is the status of the investigation?

I love his passion for the show, and what he have done after Sy-fy cancelation but those allegations....

I loved all of the books after Nemesis Games just as much,. I think NG gets so much love because it's such a big climax story. All killer, no filler, and such. But I love the daring places the story goes in the latter books.

In my opinion, the high points are Abaddon's Gate (Book 3) and Tiamat's Wrath (Book 8). Cibola Burn (Book 4) was my least favorite, but it was still incredibly enjoyable.

I can't wait to see Naomi's suit-less EVA.

It goes downhill? :(
It goes sideways. Some argue it gets worse, others enjoy it just as much or more as the previous books. Without spoiling anything, think of the way that season 4 is a big change of direction from what most people expected after the end of season 3. Book 7 is the same level of direction change and that was always going to divide opinion.

(There's some other criticism as well, much of which is fair, but to put this into perspective I don't think too many people who really liked the first five books actively dislike the three following books).

So were still just doing the belters versus earth and mars again. I feel like that's getting pretty old.
This is part of it.

But only part of it, and not the most relevant plot strand in the long term.

Differing opinions on that. Some love the time jump and catching up with the characters in that new time period. Others aren't so fond.

I think it has nothing to do with the time jump, at least not directly, indeed my problems begin with the 6th book.

The problem is that the story gets extremely predictable and the plot starts to feel contrived, so the heroes victories feel unearned. There are still great moments and parts of the story are excellent.

I voiced my displeasure of this show going in a direction where it's no longer a galactic conflict as much as a human one back when the last season ended and was told that's how it was in the books too, so I'm not surprised with this trailer being that.

But I am bummed about it still. They set up a crazy alien threat and just abandoned it so quickly.

Yeah, kinda bummed to see there's not more of that (at least according to the trailer).

Oh my sweet summer child.......be patient.

Book 5 is easily the best of the series. If season 4 was a slow burn to many, season 5 is going to be break kneck warp speed.

I'm glad to hear that. Don't get me wrong, I was going to watch it anyway, but yeah, it was definitely a concern.

IMO all this talk about the

time skip

Should be spoiler tagged.
Fully agree on this. I have no idea whether the show can realistically keep it a secret (and today's trailer makes me thing they're not super-concerned about keeping secrets anyway), but it'd be best for TV viewers to be shown that in whatever way the showrunners think is best.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo
This is a good model, and one I wish all shows used. I fully support Amazon using it. Reminder: This show used to be on Syfy channel and air weekly anyways. You're actually getting more at once this way after a long wait for the new season, and still have the benefit of the several weeks of air time and discussion.

Personal preference, but I have to binge my shows in a sitting or two. I also stay away from most discussion on anything based on books, because I feel like there is way too much, "Just you wait!" or other comments that hint at things to come from book readers.

I'm personally quite pleased it's moving to a (mostly) weekly schedule. It's better for fandom "health" and it makes things feel more like an event in my household.

Yeah. It expands discussion time of a show too.

I think stuff like Expanse benefit from this.

Speculation/hype propels the next episode to higher highs too.

I actually really agree with this.

Avoiding the trailer (I've gone in blind every season), but I look forward to reactions here. x)

Belters VS Inners plot is prob the best plot point in the whole series, so I'm glad it's getting the main focus again.

What was the fallout with the actor who was accused of sexual assault?
  • Monday, June 29: Cas Anvar made a statement saying that he will "make [himself] fully available to participate in the process as appropriate so that I may refute these very serious claims". See the stickied comment for his full statement, along with those by accusers, cast, and crew.
  • Tuesday, July 7: An investigation is officially underway: A third-party legal team engaged by Alcon is in the process of contacting relevant people.
Nothing since then.

So pleased this is back to being once a week. I hate all in one shows, and seems like they're doing the same as The Boys S2 - 3 at once, then once weekly. They learned.

In a fast paced world, I get the enjoyment of binging a whole series ASAP.

In the current times, I'm glad I've had The Boys as a reward for just surviving to another Friday preluding another miserable uneventful COVID-secure weekend.

I think once a week is good, I never thought I would say this but I miss the communal event of a tv show, the discussing weekly what is going to happen, now everyone is on his own pace and the discussion is poor
