I just finished season 4 after bing watching from season 1 these past few days.

This is peak TV, I was absolutely enthralled the whole journey. The most admirable thing is how they have managed to keep it as... apolitical (so to speak) as it is, given the subject matter. But that is not to say the cast and the production values don't deserve recognition, it's fantastic honestly.

On a side note I was pretty surprised at Diana also having affairs, cult of personality and media really is something. I never really followed their divorce but still the image I got as a complete outsider was of her as saint and of Charles as someone passive that happened to have an affair. Hell I even had literally no idea the affair started even before he met Diana lol.

Loved this season, Diana and Thatcher being the highlights. Seemed to move far quicker than past seasons though. Another thing I've felt that's off for the last two seasons is that the Queen has more often than not been less the focus than in the first two seasons. Which is funny, considering the closing lines of the season. Olivia Coleman did a fine job but because of that she is much less memorable and likeable in the role than Claire Foy. Similarly I also wished to see more of Princess Margaret, since she has a highlight of the first two seasons. Also can't help but feel they wasted Helena Bonham Carter to a degree by having her feature so little.

As far as the historical accuracy vs sensationalist fiction of the show, I do wonder how much worse they made Charles this season than he was. The whole situation was, as they said, wretched for everyone involved, we only get a little bit of insight into Charles here, though to be fair he did get a lot of that development in season 3.

I'm really looking forward to the final 2 seasons, I think Imelda Staunton is a great pick, sadly Coleman may end up being my least favourite of the main actresses just due to the reasons I mentioned above if Staunton lives up to what I imagine for her in the role. The only recast I'm not convinced on is Jonathan Pryce for Philip, he's a great actor but I'm not sure if he fits the role. Will be glad to be wrong. Odd that they haven't announced who will be playing Charles and potentially the young princes.

I believe Dominic West is playing Charles.

I'm excited about the casting for next season: West as Charles, Elizabeth Debicki as Diana, and Lesley Manville as Margaret, which is just perfect.

The way Tobias Menzies plays Philip makes me think he'd make a great Bond villain. And then I remembered he was in Casino Royale...

I forgot he was in Casino Royale. He will always be Brutus to me, love his work.

Is it just me, or is the way they use the Haka a bit insensitive? To see that dance being performed in person is intimidating, yes, but also powerful, impressive, and a great honour if it's being done for a group or individual. The way they use it in the montage with Diana's bulimia makes it seem strange, alien and essentially others it.

Finished watchings season 4 and was surprised it hasn't cover Diona's death yet. I am not from the UK so I don't know much about Thatcher. But I am now very curious about what she has done and how that led ever Britains hate her. Like, was she just very into austerity or something? It feels like she likes to cut government spendings and social programs so people will pull their own bootstraps? How did she stay in power for like 11 years if people hated her so much?

Finished watching yesterday, it was a great season altogether. I don't care much about accuracy and just watch it as a fiction and I think it comes off better that way.

Highlights of course were Charles and Diana's marriage and Thatcher. Couldn't bear to watch the former, with both of some being transformed in horrible human being throughout the series.
Thatcher was a big surprise though. I don't think they really softened her and while not British I can say with confidence that I don't share much with her on a political level. Yet I feel like her fate hit me pretty strongly in how it was depicted, with her final scene with the queen being one of the most memorable parts of this season.

Just started watching Season 3 with my wife.

I hate this cast. We're 4 episodes in. Struggling to watch the show now.

I just watched 3 and 4. 3 is absolutely terrible. I could barely finish. Season 4 is markedly better, though I'd say still not at the level of 1 and 2.

Season 3 was the only thing I had to watch on a road trip. If not for that, I'm not sure I'd have finished.

Finished episode 1 of season 3. I don't think I like this new cast...

Am I alone?
I just started Season 3 and am 3 episodes in, the cast is different but great, give it one more episode. Also they try to keep some mannerisms and speech patterns from the old actors, which is a nice touch. The characters feel the same, but look completely different.
We watched season 1 and 2 in the span of 2 weeks, and it was jarring going from all the old actors to the new ones. Especially because, if I did my math right, there's like a year between last episode of season 2 (1963) and first episode of season 3 (1964), but everyone is suddenly 10 years older. I understand they span many years over the course of any season, but they should have held off with the recasting until season 4.

Finished the season.Great stuff. It seems the Royals get built up in the first 3 seasons only to get torn down in the last three. The Queen, Charles, even Philipp get more unsympathetic by the episode. Really looking forward to the final seasons, especially Dominic West as Charles. Also, Diana's fate und aftermath was my first impression of British royalty back when I was a kid and I still remember the days and weeks after. The Elton John song playing on the radio, the TV coverage.

So I've been stuck quarantining so I binged all 4 seasons and wow what a show. That Abferan episode was a really tough watch.

And Prince Charles is a real twat/wanker
