I haven't watched a Friday the 13th movie in a long time so I'm asking you if you were to pick only one to watch on the day that bears it's name which would you pick?

gifs are welcome and appreciated here. Make your case.

12 year old me: Whichever one has the most nudity.

40 year old me: I actually can't recall all of them, but I believe I always liked #5 for some reason, so that.

I've been doing a rewatch of the series the past weeks and iirc part 5 has the most nudity of them all (baring the remake which I haven't seen before, will get to it today).

Friday the 13th, Part 2, Jason Lives, The New Blood, or 2009
They're the only ones that are confirmed to take place on Friday the 13th.

Part 3 takes place on the 15th-16th, the Final Chapter takes place on the 17th-18th, so... definitely not those.

I'm pretty sure it's A New Beginning, maybe 2009.

ANB's director started off directing porn, so...

Lol, can confirm: am still 12. I actually have only seen most of them on tv, so edited for television, so I never even saw most of the naughty bits.

That's where I was to, I got the Blu Ray boxart of the entire series last month and have been watching the series unedited for the first time (only ever watched it on tv before too). These movies are a lot more enjoyable uncut.

I like the psychic girl one (pt7). It's not the best, but that end battle is really fun.
I really like Part 7, it was refreshing and cool to watch Jason fight someone on his level who could hold their own against him. It's also why I love Freddy vs Jason so much.

You're in for a treat with F13 2009.

That's good to know. I've been looking to seeing a new (to me) Friday the 13th (and with that lawsuit we won't be getting another one for quite a long time).

Having seen them all recently, I can say Part 2 is my favourite. It's the quintessential slasher movie, every clichƩ and tropes are in there but in a good way. And the concept is still fresh.

4 and 6 are good too. 5 is a bit more sleazy but fine.

Part 6 is the only Jason film that I would actually consider to be a good movie on its own. Part 4 has the best kills though.

Jason Lives was my first Friday the 13th movie. Watched it in the 2nd grade at a friend's house, then went outside to "play Jason". It's still my favorite...and if I'm honest with myself - the only Jason flick I enjoy anymore.

Part 2 is literally my favorite movie in general. Love the atmosphere, the characters are a lot of fun, baghead Jason is the best Jason.

Part 2 remains my favorite. The only tiny thing holding it back from being the quintessential Friday is that Jason doesn't have the hockey mask yet. Otherwise it's the best one, and Ginny is the best final girl.

I've been watching the 6.5 hour Crystal Lake Memories doc all week, so I'll be finishing that off just in time for tonight.

4 or Jason Lives are definitely the best ones. I also really enjoyed 2009 and the Crystal Lake Memories doc is a lot of fun after watching all of them. I watched it all for the first time earlier this year and I loved them.

if there is someone with you watching the movie - and that person isn't really aware of the whole there is no real Jason in the first movie - you should watch the first one just to see their reaction

The first one is a fantastic film in its own right, it has everything a campy slasher flick requires and the mood is never replicated. Very tight editing too.

Also, for giggles, maybe Jason Goes to Hell or Jason Goes to Manhattan?

I'm gonna go with Final Chapter, Jason Lives or possibly the one from 2009. I remember liking that more than I expected. I also remember being incredibly drunk while watching it, but nevermind that.

I assume you mean 2009. I don't agree at all, 2009 is easily one of the best in the series. My favorite Jason is part 2 though, and 2009's Jason feels very much influenced by that one (more of a creepy hermit than a zombie).
You right. And I just found it terminally boring, not a lot of characters, every single character is annoying and irredeemable, and it's just feels terribly uncreative.

Part 2 is šŸ”„

X is the best. As others have said, it's such a dumb piece of shit that it loops around into being amazing.

My fave is The Final Chapter, but you can't go wrong with Jason Lives either. Jason Takes Manhattan or Jason X are also a hoot.

The Final Chapter is a legit great slasher movie. Jason Lives looks amazing, is self-aware and is where Jason starts to feel like a supernatural force. The others I mentioned are kinda hokey and terrible which makes them work IMO.

(This is from Part 7 though)

2, 4, or 6. 2's the best of the grittier feeling early ones, Sackhead Jason is an awesome look, and the final chase is pretty great. 4 feels like the most pure distillation of what Friday the 13th is. 6 is maybe a little too self aware with its goofiness, but is also the closest the series has come to making an actually good movie. It's rarely boring and is also easily the most visually competent.

These movies are absolutely wild to watch back to back, I watched a few last month. They are all a treat in different ways
