Did you run DX11? (DX12 implementation is horrible). Even my old GTX 980 can hold 60 fps at 1200p in all but the most dense hub areas where it dips a bit. I don't even get dips when combat is most intense with particles and gibs flying everywhere. I have effects and post procession on high and the rest on ultra. But the settings don't even seem to affect frame rate much between the high and ultra settings.

No, I made sure DX12 was off. It's the Windows version so maybe behind in patches? I'll try it again when it gets an update.

We have played this for about six hours on gamepass.. me and two friends. The amount of bugs we have encountered is pretty astounding. Hard crashes. Players getting stuck in areas. I lost all my equipment after one session, including the cyberdeck upgrades. The artists definitely outdid themselves though. There is so much detail. It's a shame that the significant bugs have soured the experience so much for us.

MS store version is bugged beyond belief, so for example switching to DX11 does nothing and game will still run in DX12 despite UI saying it's DX11. Also, turning on raytracing in MS store version also does nothing, despite UI saying that it's enabled. Avoid PC version and just play on XSX.

Is there an end game? Because as is the single player doesn't really offer any challenge (beyond bugs) and I'm not sure if the coop increases the number of enemies or makes them stronger? Nothing really feels that big of a chore.

I've played about two hours through Game Pass and it's just okay. The real draw here are the visuals, but the combat itself is incredibly repetitive, the RPG mechanics feel like needless bloat and the story is entirely unremarkable.

It's a 5/10 game wrapped in 9/10 presentation.
You played for two hours and can tell all that?......okay, I guess. L9l

Why would I want the game to feel like a chore? Lol. No please.

Having a great time with this even in Solo. I've played for about 3 hours and just got past the Spider.

Yes, the RPG elements feel weak and the game feels unfinished in some areas, but the combat feels good and the guns all feel really meaty.

its a solid 8/10 from me

I absolutely loved, loved, loved that that game had a clear ending and no shitty colour coded loot dropping all over the place, turning the game into yet another inventory management simulator. This is a game I want to play again, focusing on new weapons and augs that I didn't spend much time on the first time through. Game length is also perfect for a tight arcade experience. <3

I've only been playing solo but I have been enjoying it so far. I feel like I'm real lucky as I haven't really hit any bugs, but it sounds like they're more common as the game goes on.

It will be interesting to see where Neon Giant goes in the future. I think they proved that a small team of veterans can create a game with some incredible strengths. This game is incredibly strong in its world building, art assets, graphics, music, and the feel of the weapons and powers. I also think Neon Giant also proved that such a small team cannot properly balance and polish a non-minimalistic game in a reasonable time frame. I wonder if they will try to keep a small team or grow into a larger studio.

I think it would be great for them to expand their team and build the Ascent into a fully fleshed out action-RPG franchise with deeper rpg mechanics. I think the small team was fantastic for establishing.a vision for the game, but they would probably need a large team to do things like generate a proper loot system and character classes. Many people would probably be upset that such a sequel would overcomplicate the game, but lot people and critics will never be satisfied with a game that simply nails the feeling shooting powerful weapons. I personally love games like that, but I think they could probably broaden the appeal by fleshing out the RPG systems and polishing the co-op experience.

I personally love the Ascent way more than I thought that I would after reading the reviews. I love the bleak cyberpunk world. The ambient music is perfect. I love that the game is selling very well (based off its performance on Steam). I also like all of the little conversations that the npc's have in the game overworld, and I think those conversations do a great job of characterizing the game world. I think a sequel could be an huge hit if they just make a few changes.

Downloaded this last night on Game Pass PC, played the first handful of missions and came away feeling very mixed.

I love the look of the world. The layered environments, the dirty, smokey city streets, the claustrophobic corridors and the Ray-traced neon everywhere; I'm into it. The voice acting (when in English) is pretty good too.

The gameplay seems in a weird spot where it is more fleshed out than a twin stick shooter, but only sticks its toe into any sort of RPG mechanics. Like some other people have mentioned here, I'm ok with that. Definitely don't need another game filled with color coded loot.

My main complaints are:

- the shooting feels a bit squirrelly and the cover mechanic feels ineffective given how fast enemies chase after you. I feel like I'm running away and shooting behind me most of the time I'm in combat.

- in contrast with the world design, the character designs seem very bland and lack detail.

- the frame rate on this thing chugs CONSTANTLY. Granted, I have the settings up pretty high, but I'm running it at 1440 and I have a 3080 and an i9 processor and the frame rate takes a dive not only when something explodes (often), but also just randomly walking around the environments.

I like the game well enough to continue, but I hope something is done to fix the performance.

I'm really liking this game. Started off a little slow. I found a place to level up quick. Kill some high leveled guys and let the last one kill me, rinse and repeat. There's no downside to dying in this game.

Once you reach a particular point of descent damage output, the game really opens up and is more fun to play.

Solid 8-9/10 so far.

I... am not sure if I vibe with this one. It certainly has an atmosphere and aesthetic I'll give it that. But behind all the shine and glitter, it is a clunky, buggy and uneven experience. I'll watch this movie for sure, but I don't think I can play this for 20 hours.

The only real trouble I'm having is that I think the map is a bit shit. I can never figure out what it's telling me... might just be me being really stupid though. I'm loving everything else. The visuals, the gameplay, everything. I'm having so much fun. I'm playing the Steam version and I've not encountered too many bugs really. Maybe I've been lucky. Getting the odd stutter when traversing large areas but that's all.

I've played a bit and enjoying it so far but I'm playing on a 1080p TV with a series x and feel like I'm not experiencing it at its best, feel like I should wait until I can play it on my 4k TV again.

Just I wanted to say I've been playing past midnight with my cousin online. We're both Blade Runner geeks and absolutely loving it. I do really wish the game was a bit more stable, though. We've experienced numerous issues that have been discussed throughout this thread. After a few patches I feel like this is going to be an A+ game experience for me.

yeah enemy amount and health stacks like 2x for each player :P
and the engine is pretty strained at that point:

Has there been a patch for the game yet?

I may hold off playing if there is one coming soon but I can't really find anything googling - but someone in here asked if the patch was up on Xbox/pc yet so maybe I missed something.

There's apparently a patch coming later this week that addresses the audio bug among other things.

Would be nice if the map showed whether a chest/crate is above or below you. Watching a few folk stream it and they seem to struggle with that the most (in regards map usage).

There are also areas of the game that don't appear on the map, are they secret areas or something?

how exactly do you update your cyberdeck? I've picked up 3 or 4 upgrade pieces up I can't tell if it's doing anything looking in the menus. Are the pieces you pick up currency you trade for the upgrade or does it just upgrade automatically when you pass a threshold?

Upgrades are automatically applied when you pick them up. Each upgrade you pick up will further enhance the capabilities of the deck and give it a new name. There's 2-3 more upgrades in the world than are needed to fully upgrade the deck, so you can miss a couple and still get a fully upgraded deck by late game.

Automatically upgrades when you pick one up.

Also your deck is able to hack vending machines which become a good source for health packs. Note that if you die, those hacked machines stay empty. Also chests have 3 levels of protection. Sometimes you will have to hack before you can open them. The game does not do a good job letting you know which level of tech you can open. It will have to be trial and error.

The good part is many of the decks are near the main quests so make sure to check around when doing main quests since you can easily miss a deck upgrade.

Do NOT hack near intact barrels!

Is anyone else getting massive stutters on the pc gamepass version of this game?
It stutters like crazy no matter what I do.
Tried DX11. DX12, everything I can think of. Its a mess.

So, there are 24 side quests, correct?

Incorrect. There's 28 side quests.

I had a bad time with DX12 on the Steam version. Stuttering and low fps. Then I had a very good time when I switched to DX11 which is perfect.

Unfortunately it looks like DX11 doesn't work on the MS version, it runs DX12 regardless. But don't take my word for it. It's just something I read in this thread.

I believe it as DX11 and DX12 stutter equally badly.
What a mess.

Played for a couple hours last night. Was very skeptical of combat at first but it's growing on me.

Really a sucker for the world building and great codex. The writing also seems like it strikes a good balance between dark and funny, reminds me of Wasteland- not too quippy but also not all doom and gloom.

I love the idea of "ascending" out of the depths of the giant archology, hoping that it's almost like a Snowpiercer type campaign where you make your way up to the top. I feel like with a name like "The Ascent" that must be the overarching plot.

Not sure if there's a complete list. But personally I was missing the 4 extra casino courier missions you can get after doing the first one.

Sweetmini posted a list with 27 side quests a few pages back. That's where I discovered that I was missing the extra casino missions.

https://www.resetera.com/threads/th...th-lots-of-booms.463620/page-28#post-70598547

Thanks, looks like I'm missing a few casino courier missions.

I can't remember where the casino is located on high street :(
