I laughed my ass off when I caught this on tv.

This man will endure any torture but 10 seconds on that spa machine and he's broken

Edit: and yeah, this clip shows how badly aged bond has in more ways than one

Connery's Bond was pure slime, and for that character that's saying something. People who say he was best always get a side eye from me.

Woman in the 1960's gets held against her will and forced into an intimate act by a much stronger individual in a position of authority.

"heehee behave yourself Mr. Bond 😅😉"

My god these films have aged like absolute ass.

Same reason I always give side-eye to people claiming that Skyfall is one of the best James Bond movies ever. Sure, the one Daniel Craig Bond film where he, without any possible doubt, rapes a woman and then lets her die is the best? Uhu, please get away from me.

This is about on par for James Bond, sadly

even in Goldeneye, he grabs the woman's arm while she tries to walk away, grabs her quickly and quite forcibly by the back of her neck, just jerks her in for a long kiss

and this was "one of the good bonds"

"I think that's a waste of good gin" is one of the worst lines from the Craig movies for sure. I don't think even Connery was that cold.

there was no rape in Skyfall, he was super flippant towards her death though which fucking sucked. Huge jarring change from Casino and Quantum and how he interacted with the women in those or was confronted with the consequences of his actions. I blame Mendes and their insistence to go back to the nostalgic old ways. Movie was pretty cool aside from that though.

Bond was also flippant towards Mathis' death in Quantum, who was actually a longtime friend, and just threw his body in a dumpster like he was a piece of garbage. So I'd agree that Bond's interaction with women was better in the first two Craig films, but he was still a shitty person in other ways.

TO BE FAIR to the creatives: That's the point of Craig's Bond. It's commentary on "the system." He's an anti-hero figure hero, and he usually sees consequences of some sort.

How would you call a situation in which a guy walks into a woman's shower uninvited?

And I thought that rapey Goldfinger scene was bad. But casual sexual assault of a doctor doing her job, only to blackmail her into sex when she fears losing said job takes the cake

Woman in the 1960's gets held against her will and forced into an intimate act by a much stronger individual in a position of authority.

reminds me of that famous 1945 kiss picture that became a symbol for the end of WW2, despite being basically sexual assault

The part where he just enters a woman's shower without consent (a woman who happens to be a former sex slave)

yep. Always thought that bit was fucking TERRIBLE.

Let's have a character who has undoubtedly undergone countless acts of sexual violence during her life as a victim of sex trafficking. And then James Bond is going to just sneak into her shower, nude and completely uninvited. And THEN she will be killed, James will make a quip about it, and that will be that.

what an awful storyline.

I mean, sure, but let's be real people liked him unironically as boomer dad escapist fantasy.

To this day, there's people who, more than unironically, uncritically likes that Bond, to the point that the good portrays of Craig's bond (specially in No Time To Die) are looked down by them.

It really sucks. I really like the franchise for many reasons, but the toxic masculinity that surrounds James Bond is unescapable and the rule rather than the exception.

I'd say Spectre's was even worse, where the woman thought Bond was here to kill her and she's shaking so much it looks like she's about to throw up.
I recently rewatched Spectre to prepare for NTtD and that's actually not true. Monica Bellucci's character does not think Bond is there to kill him. Bond kills the people sent to kill her and then makes sure (off-screen) she's protected.

Still, the sex scene is a bit icky as the reason people are trying to kill her is entirely of Bond's making as he killed her husband, but it's not nearly as bad as the scene in Skyfall.

I try to live a life free of old James bond, this thread will not dissuade me

Nothing good ever comes out of watching these movies
