Taken together, the new provisions would represent a shift even further rightward for the Republican Party of Texas, once known as the party of Presidents George Bush and his son George W. Bush. Land Commissioner George P. Bush, a grandson and nephew of the two presidents, was defeated handily in May in his runoff race against Attorney General Ken Paxton, an arch-conservative who sued to challenge the 2020 election outcome and convinced voters that he was the truer Trump loyalist.

How long until the Overton window shifts so hard in Texas that the Bush family run as Democrats?

Vote on secession sounds good. Time to see how well their economy does when it isn't burdened with financing the coastal progressive elite in their failed socialist utopias.

I mean, that's the Kool Aid they're drinking over there, right?

If you think elimination of the popular vote will be limited to Texas I've got bad news.

They are coming for democracy

Secession again? Republicans continue to trip over to shoot themselves in the foot. We can't even handle the power grid, the fuck you think is going to happen when a hurricane blows through Houston and levels the shit (again) and you get zero federal dollars for rebuilding lol.

And I could be wrong here but secession essentially means Republicans will almost never win a presidential election ever again right? Why would the rest of the country allow Texas to vote on any of its matters? Clown shit. If it wasn't for my elderly parents I'd be out of this shithole of a state already.

This is desperation. They're way too close to purple for their comfort so they have to make the place as unwelcome for dems as possible to try to keep it. It's a losing battle for them as long as people don't leave. Ofc that's easy to say when I don't live there. There's a reason we're seeing some of the most extreme laws in traditionally toss up states like Ohio and Florida.

The problem is that folks moving here are often Conservative.

Is Texas really this far gone? I mean, enough Texans will vote for this to keep the GOP in power? (Not that their explicit plans involve keeping democracy but they still needs votes for now).
This is horrific and extremely dismaying. I don't know how you come back from this kind of extremism.

In many ways, yes. The GOP are making more and more inroads in South Texas so Dems will be losing previous strongholds. Folks are "okay" with gay marriage but won't vote to keep it intact. Folks are "okay" with trans folks but won't vote to protect the rights of trans folks. They care about their wallets far more than the rights of others.

Pretty much. They talk about how Texas pays more to the Federal government then it receives so it can be fine on its own.

The thing is if Texas secedes, other red states won't be far behind.

You're assuming secession ends with Texas. It won't.

Don't let those despots in DC tell us what to do. Only we have the right to be despots around here.

Despite how much some of you seem to have wet dreams about the actually decent people living in these states getting fucked over by them seceding, there is zero chance of it actually happening because they know their state will be fucked in pretty much every possible way the moment they do.
Am I misinterpreting this, or this guaranteeing jobs for everyone by calling them "a fundamental right"? I know the GOP would never want that and this is meant as more anti-mandate crap, but still, weird wording.

Anyway this is one frightening, regressive list holy shit
More likely scenario is that it's a "fundamental right" for employers to require employees to come in to work regardless of circumstances or something along those lines.

I was just thinking about all of the people who moved from CA and how they'd regret it now. Mind saying what he's most stoked about?
I was mostly just implying about these involving him. They looked into moving immediately the day that Newsom said schools would implement a covid vaccine requirement on students. His whole family is antivaxx now. One of their kids slipped through to public schools(I guess before they turned into antivaxxers), and they homeschool their other kids because they dont want them to have any vaccines of any kind. I know for a fact my brother is all about guns and wants everyone to have one now though... They are also extremely anti abortion

It's pretty shitty that these policies are trying to force me out of this state even though I've lived here my whole life. This is so disgusting. I recently lost a bunch of shitty "friends" because I called out another person in the wider group for supporting this type of stuff, and everyone basically told me to shut up and even had the gall to call me "hateful", but their friend taking constant potshots at gay and trans people on Facebook and supporting this wider agenda, that's totally fine. I'm the one being hateful.

If Texas actually seceded it wouldn't be a shit hole. The GOP would put in every congressional and house whatevers that they are to support Texas for X amount of time. It would basically be a black hole for Republicans of the United States to toss money I . They aren't going to abandon it. It is an easy way to take money

If there is a fracture in the US, historians will put the blame to right wing radio, Fox News, Newt Gingrich/Mitch McConnell and numedia like Facebook, which led to Trump.

It's insane how these places consistently hypnotize GOP voters into such aggressive hatred.

So if Texas succeeds from the US. They can technically be invaded by another country and the US doesn't have to step in?

Speed running towards a revolution. This is getting serious now. And I sincerely hope we don't just meekly accept all/any of this bullshit.

And Texas would hardly be the only state to want to codify these things. In fact, they're all leaping over each other to be the most extreme ones.

Its times like this I wonder why the federal government just doesn't start keeping federal dollars from places like T X the more extreme and nonsensical they get. Also this is their ridiculous platform, and the media won't hold the republican politicians running for office accountable to this.

They would be invaded by the US because there's no way the US lets them secede. Not only that, the US would not let another country attack Texas because it means another country might be within its own borders.

Let's say they did secede. That would give Dems a dominating lead in the house, possibly a majority in the Senate. GOP-led Texas would crash and burn (see their struggles to keep their power grid running and absolute lack of concern for their own citizens), and eventually they'd come crawling back to the greater US for assistance. And while the biggest red state is away from the union, the rest of the country can make some greatly needed changes.

It's a fantasy since they'll never secede lol.

This assumes other red states won't follow suit. They most likely would.

I would welcome them leaving. Even better if fascists from elsewhere in the country flock to Texas and leave as well.

That would be even better. Blue states are propping up red states, not the other way around lol.

But that would leave too many good people trapped in those states so I would never actually want that.

Complete insanity... it's likely that not all of this will ever become reality even if Republicans control the legislation (according to the article anyway) but it really goes to show how utterly deranged and mask off they are.

This part of the article alarmed me:
Jones said that Republican redistricting has made incumbents safer and less inclined to appeal to moderates. Moreover, inflation, the risk of a recession, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and growing acrimony over race, gender and sexuality make it seem increasingly likely that Democrats will lose the U.S. House in the November midterm elections.
Is this true? I thought the Dems had a decently safe majority in the House even if they lose some seats. (The senate is another matter of course...)

Texas GOP Resolution Apparently Opposes Judicial Review in the U.S., Rejects Legitimacy of 2020 Election and Flirts with Secession

The Republican Party of Texas voted for a resolution that would appear to rock the foundations of judicial review in the United States. Along the way, the Texas GOP rejects the legitimacy of Joe Biden's presidency, describes homosexuality as an "abnormal lifestyle choice," and urges the legislature to push a referendum on whether the Lone Star State should secede from the union.
That only scratches the surface on the radical proposals on the 273-point platform urges the abolition of several government agencies, withdrawal of the United States from the United Nations and the prosecution of physicians who perform "non-elective abortions" with homicide.

Overshadowed by numerous other proposals seemingly putting the state party in the firm embrace of the far-right, the Texas GOP appears to call for dismantling the 1803 Supreme Court precedent Marbury v. Madison.

"Judges don't define the roles of judges; Article 3, Section 2, defines the roles of judges," the document states. "We support Congress's limiting the power of the Supreme Court by invoking Article 3, Section 2, Clause 2, by 'legislating exceptions and creating regulations' to limit the cases for which the Supreme Court has jurisdiction."
The Texas GOP also officially rebuked Republican senators behind recent firearm safety legislation, casting all gun control as a "violation of the Second Amendment and our God given rights." One of the senators on the rebuke list, John Cornyn of Texas, was booed at the state's convention, KHOU reported.

Unfortunately it's very likely the Dems will lose the majority in the House, it's been a distinct possibility since the 2020 election when they lost a sizable part of their majority.

This is how election cycles work in America. Republicans will gain control, fuck shit up beyond recognition, voters will flock to Dems who can't fix everything Republicans fucked up within 2 years, voters go back to the GOP. Rinse and repeat.

Also, any red state breaking away would immediately fall into civil war because its NO WAY the giant blue cities are just going to stand by and take it. once TX or these other places are on their own, no way there won't be huge problems because the cities and people who live in the cities won't stand for supporting these failed states while basically being made into 2nd class citizens.

Would it be better when the coasts couldn't get goods to each other because they can't get through the middle of the country? The middle of the country has lots of oil and farms.

It's not as cut and dry as folks seem to think.
