Independent said:
A tearful Nancy Pelosi said members of Congress may be prosecuted over the Capitol insurrection as she launched a major security review.
The House Speaker grew emotional as she announced that she has asked retired Lieutenant General Russel Honoré to carry out an "immediate" review security arrangements in the wake of the violence last week.

Independent said:
"If in fact it is found that members of Congress were accomplices to this insurrection, if they aided and abetted the crime, there may have to be actions taken beyond the Congress in terms of prosecution for that," she said.

Independent said:
The probe follows speculation that Republican members of Congress and Capitol Police may have played a role organising or enabling a deadly mob in support of Donald Trump's attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election he insists was "stolen" from them.

Democratic Congressman Tim Ryan of Ohio, who chairs a Capitol Police oversight committee, has aid that an investigation is looking at more than one lawmaker who gave tours to "handfuls" of people at the Capitol the day before the riot.

I feel like we're about to learn some damning revelations on some meme eta of Congress.

Some heads are going to rightfully roll. Now hopefully the Dems push VRA with a Gerrymandering destroyer that assures some of these fruitcakes never get a seat again

Doubt it will happen but if Cruz gets procecuted 2021 will officially be better then 2020. That sniveling rat needs to get out of politics yesterday. It will most likely be limited to the ones that help the day of though.

What can they do if found guilty? Recalled remove from congress or jail or just a slap on wrist and fines?

You figure that unlike our President congressmen aren't immune to prosecution. If the Fed/DC starts laying out charges, there's probably a relatively easy path to get rid of them based on that they got arrested on serious offenses. Not like you can serve in jail.

So trial and likely jail would be an assured outcome. They would likely be removed from their respective caucus and then if they don't resign(which they will be pushed to do), a removal vote would likely happen

This is gonna be the real movie to watch when it comes out
You really think it would be a good movie? If they are too accurate no one will believe it. Movie villains being one dimensional and too evil doesn't make an interesting character. Theres no way to portray the real thing without comming off as cartoony and corny.

Imagine if a few Republicans get removed from their duties and special elections are held in their respective states. That'd certainly be interesting, to say the least.

Hopefully this is a wake up call that the GOP shouldn't be viewed or treated as just "the other party". Something is inherently wrong with the party itself if it breeds and gives power to people who even entertain the idea of so much of the BS that the GOP actually has outright tried.

They gave tours to these loons a day before the Capitol was sieged. It was right out in the open.

I know it's painfully obvious to anyone paying attention how far the republican party is, and none of this should be a surprise.

But I do understand how fucked it is to come to grips that your co-workers tried to murder you.

Didn't look particularly tearful to me.

That said, she's not just saying this for her health. Clearly shit will be going down.

They can remove them under the 14th Amendment, which prevents anyone found of helping those involved in seditious acts from holding public office. Pelosi raised this Amendment in a letter to the caucus last week.

Section 3

No Person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

Section 5

The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.

If they are found guilty most resign from congress and if not the rules of that state govern how to replace them.

But this is criminal and separate from Congress. If they are guilty its just like with any other crime. You get arrested, arraigned, bail and have a trial.

Why do you think republicans wanted to move on from this and starting talking about unity, they know alot of them are involved in a failed coup.

I should note that the Article of Impeachment specifically uses the term "insurrection" so this amendment can be invoked.

They are almost certainly waiting for the Senate majority to get more vociferous on this front, but it's clearly cooking.

I imagine a few GOP reps are going to be very surprised to learn that deleting something off your phone doesn't actually delete it.

It's fascinating to look at the change in rhetoric from the time Pelosi was sworn in

Perfect. Anyone who was complicit should be charged with insurrection and never able to hold public office again.

One of the Stop the Steal organizers specifically mentioned Gosar, Biggs, and Brooks as congressmen he was working with. And Boebbert seemed to inadvertently out herself on Twitter, when she took offense at Sean Patrick Maloney accusing her of complicity despite not having mentioned her by name lol
