After Trump's last attempt at creating a social media platform for himself didn't work out so well, his team is prepared to try again with a Twitter-alike social media app called GETTR:

Former President Donald Trump's team quietly launched a new social media platform on Thursday, billing it as an alternative to Big Tech sites.
...
The site, called GETTR, advertised its mission statement as "fighting cancel culture, promoting common sense, defending free speech, challenging social media monopolies, and creating a true marketplace of ideas." The app is currently in beta form and will be officially launched on July 4 at 10a.m.

The description of the app sounds like it tries it's best to replicate Twitter, right down to the follower count:

GETTR's user interface appears similar to that of Twitter. Initial promotional materials for GETTR on the app stores displayed posts of users celebrating the House of Representatives no longer requiring masks on the floor of the chamber. Initial trending topics on the app included the hashtags "#trump," "#virusorigin," "#nra" and "#unrestrictedbioweapon." Those tags refer to the newfound and still unproven refrain from Republicans that China created the Covid-19 virus in a lab as a bioweapon.

But the similarities with Twitter don't end there. GETTR's app also claims to offer new users the ability to "import copies of your content from Twitter to GETTR." And evidence on the site indicates that the new platform is also allowing users to import their actual Twitter followers — who somehow end up with GETTR accounts of their own.

Team Trump quietly launches new social media platform

GETTR will be the newest MAGA venture in this space. It’s being led by Trump’s former spokesman, Jason Miller.

The best part about these "ANTI CANCEL CULTURE" platforms is that within seconds they immediately have to start banning all the Nazis that show up. This means they not only lose 50% of their user base because half of MAGA are Nazis, but it also enrages the entire MAGA user base because the Nazis are "cancelled" on the "anti cancel culture" site and they all start screeching about boycotting the site.

It sounds like things got off to a great start too:

Problem is that I can't tell if this is trolls invading the platform and trying to poison the hashtag or if it's just a select section of online alt-right weirdos letting their freak flags fly on the brand new freezepeach platform.

Most definitely the latter. The vast majority of the online alt-right are anime waifu neckbeard 8chan creeps.

The obsession with follower counts between this and Frank have been funny as hell. Frank doesn't actually exist still, but one of Mike Lindell's initial claims about it was how many followers everyone would have, to the point where he said all new users will automatically follow certain top influencers unless they opt out.

The Chinese billionaire behind this platform, Guo, who goes by many other names, is also the guy whose super yacht that Steve Bannon was arrested on.

But the similarities with Twitter don't end there. GETTR's app also claims to offer new users the ability to "import copies of your content from Twitter to GETTR." This is an interesting trick that other social sites like Pinterest used to goose profile numbers to advertisers. They create shadow profiles based on your social graph from another site, and then advertise those as "10b new users in July alone!" when like 99.9% of those 10b users are shadow profiles.

I remember thinking parler was too obvious of a honeypot, but I'm convinced there's no such thing as too obvious at this point.
