Did Sumo ever explained why they went with Sonic only instead of All Stars?
Sonic Team wanted to make a Sonic racing game with a focus on team mechanic and chose Sumo due to their previous work.

Doesn't seem like they hit it out of the park with this one. Too bad.
Fingers crossed for CTR.
Wait, it's 30 on the base consoles too? Damn, that's tremendously disappointing.I believe it's 30fps on all base consoles (PS4/XB1/Switch) and the Pro/X are 60fps.

Nah, even if it had other Sega characters it'd be quite a big step down from the previous game, that's why it's not reviewing very well.Mechanically, it's more of the same of Transformed - which to me is the best very best Kart racer experience in terms of gameplay.
The problem is that it's a Sonic game. Had it been SEGA All-Stars it would've scored higher... Had it been called Team Mario Racing and featured the Mario cast but been otherwise identical it would score higher still, I'm quite positive.
Oh gosh the whining about Sega characters will be a big thing in this!I'm copying what I wrote in another thread:
"Here's Gameblog's review, written by yours truly: http://www.gameblog.fr/tests/3401-team-sonic-racing-ps4
I gave it a 7/10.
It's good, I loved the team gameplay. But it's not perfect. And the SEGA All-Stars are truly missed."

It's weird for a franchise to go backwards with a sequel. And the move from having a large cast of interesting characters to having just characters from one game series is straight up lame imo.Look pretty divided. People are that pissed about only sonic characters?
Been watching some footage from people on Youtube that got a street date copy. Unless they captured the footage at 30ps by accident, that's how it looked to me.
Would love to be corrected though.
It's a different franchise. It's weird for a franchise to go backwards with a sequel. And the move from having a large cast of interesting characters to having just characters from one game series is straight up lame imo.
Sonic is in a rough space with its latest game, movie, and spin-off all failing to meet the low expectations given them. Team Sonic Racing could be a fun experience if it's core mechanics were tweaked to be tighter, fluid, and far more arcadey. There are bits of polish than shine through every now and then, but the entire game feels like it was rushed through development.
Where you thinking this wouldn't bother people?Oh gosh the whining about Sega characters will be a big thing in this!
People don't get that but I don't blame them. In their eyes this is the next Sonic racer after Transformed.
You know that's an interesting point, despite the same team I don't think they've ever officially referred to it as a sequel to asrt. This is very much it's own thing and should be addressed that way. If anything it's a sequel to sonic drift 2
Aaron Webber (Sonic PR) has said on the official streams that there won't be any DLC, but maybe it's just because of the negative connotations it has. I hope so, at least they could port the missing Sonic stages from SASRTBet its gonna be another GaaS type scenario where they release a barebones game and then a bunch of free updates later on (that should have been in the game at launch) and everyones like "WOW such great support! Games great now!"
I'm looking at you, splatoon
Here's a comparison of the Metacritic averages of the other Sumo racing games (excluding the scores for mobile/handheld versions of varying quality and ASR's lackluster PC version)
Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing - 76.66
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed - 80.25
Team Sonic Racing - Currently at 73
Gamexplain's video review talks about it
IGN does.

Sonic Team manages to ruin games they don't develop, lol.Sonic Team wanted to make a Sonic racing game with a focus on team mechanic and chose Sumo due to their previous work.
Realistically it probably wasn't Iizuka's sole decision. But basically yeah it seems pretty likely that Sega's the reason for it being Sonic-only.It wasn't their decision, Iizuka (head of Sonic Team) wanted to do a Sonic racing game and they chose to have Sumo develop it.
The lack of the transformation in vehicles, gameplay and tracks that made the last game unique is surely a bigger reason that it didn't score higher.Mechanically, it's more of the same of Transformed - which to me is the best very best Kart racer experience in terms of gameplay.
