Yeah, that's the part I don't get. From everything I've seen it looks just like an endless runner, even with just a single programmer I don't see how it's taken so long.

Pretty safe assumption to say it's EGS. Gamers are more likely to boycott things that affect them directly, same thing with the Dragon Quest composer thing.
