Wouldn't say it's a mess per say but if you're getting it for handheld only, might want to reconsider if you have a PS4\X1\PC. If you care about performance or the best version, PS4\PC is the way to go. I'm personally getting both PS4\NS as I plan to play the game on PS4 due to the FPS not being compromised, resolution, trophies, etc, but having a version on the go for one of my favorite games is also a neat thing, so why not both? However, that's just what I'm doing. Don't imagine most people picking up two versions of the same game.

Dang, I might go for the PC version then. I suppose it's not really I game I would play in handheld mode anyway, though, so probably not a big loss.

1440p/120fps gonna be great.

Glad I went Switch, looking forward to playing this portable. Got it for a decent price but looks like it won't arrive in time for release which sucks. I'll have to wait until Monday onwards to play but I'm looking forward to getting the Special Edition.

if its the same as the xbox 360 version

DONT MY GOD DONT AHHH DONT DO IT
They eased up on the secret missions, at the least. If you mess up, or just decide not to do it during a boss fight, you can refight practically every boss in Nam Cobanda Isle and do the secret missions that way at your leisure. That's how I got them done back on PS3.

Yeah, I don't understand this sudden "concern" about Tales performance when it has been all over the place for years now.
I think it's less concern, and moreso people just wanting the best possible version of the game. I can't really fault someone for going with the PS4 or PC versions if the Switch performance bugs them. Yeah, Tales performance is historically sketchy but hey, we have options now!

Maybe, but portability is what will guarantee that I will finish this game at all.

(Also, considering the history of some of the posters, I don't think I'm wrong calling it "concern". I mean, considering remote play as an alternative to the Switch for God's sake).

I played Berseria at perfect 60fps now and I'm pretty sure all other Tales of on PC can be played easily at high framerates. The rules changed once the series became avaliable on PC

PC obviously. Is PC.

The PS4 version was really uneven.

Do we know for sure about the game performance on the X1X? Like any early impressions? I was hoping it was just an oversight on the part of Bamco

We finally got the definitive version of the game on multiple platforms, let's not ruin the OT with fanboy shit 😌

I think it's that sources are saying the Switch version isn't even able to maintain a solid locked 30 FPS. It's either unlocked and hovers, or has frame pacing issues at 30 FPS.

For a 'definitive' version, it should at least be locked to what Namco said the console specs are pre-release (i-e 60 FPS in battles and 30 FPS outside).

Hahaha. Yeah, I'm aware. List is the same as the ps3 one (which in turn was similar to 360's achievements), with the exception of reducing the travel requirements from 100km to 50km and the save point trophy now requiring you to actually use all save points.

I don't understand why some would dismiss performance issues when there are multiple version of the game.

The Definitive version is the PC version as all console version seems lacking with Switch having FPS drops and no Pro and X support.

Is this game good by today's standards?
I'm convinced just about any JRPG can come out and be hailed as "an incredible experience" and "GOAT" even thought it is most likely garbage.
I have played a few Tales games before and they were just ok in the most middling way possible, but its supposedly the best Tales game so it definitely better than all the dumpster fires like NiNoKuni 2 and FF15 that are 'todays standards'.

I mean .. not really an issue if you're a base PS4 or XBO owner. Not that we've seen any impressions for those consoles, but Berseria was pretty much a locked 1080p/60 FPS on base PS4 as well.

I wonder how long it'll take me to get to the spot I left at on the 360 version. Oy.

I meant people who were complaining about performance on other platforms.

I mean, sure people wouldn't moan about abyss 3D being 30fps, although I remember they were, because well... The game was only avaliable on 3DS. People woul not moan about original Vesperia framerate, whatever sketchy it was, because well...it was only avaliable on 360.

Now that the series is fully multiplatform with PC, why wouldn't you be concerned about performance if you have the option to choose. I might have got the Switch version with stable 60fps at least on battle, but since that's not the case I can go PC. If the game was exclusive like past tales games or the was only switch version I would have to deal with it. Now people don't have to deal with, so they can be concerned about performance and choose the one that fully fits their needs.

Yeah I guess for PS4 owners it's fine however I'm not sure about Xbone owners - it's weird that the game is not 60FPS outside of battle. Maybe I'm just salty that there isn't any Pro/X support.

Still this is one of the best Tales games.

To old fans of the series... How this game compares with Phantasia, Destiny and Eternia? (My preferred ones).

It was a solid JRPG on 360. Felt more like a PS1 era game than Lost Odyssey did.

Up there with LO, Xenoblade Chronicles for the 360/Wii/PS3 generation's best JRPGs. That generation didn't have a lot of great games come out. Vesperia is arguably the best one.

The characters are likable and the game isn't total anime bullshit as one would expect. It's not drowning in it's own depression like Eternal Sonata. It has a traditional overworld to travel on. It's a good time.

I remember people were saying this will run fine on Switch because it's a Ps3 port. :p And by fine I mean locked 30 fps and native resolution. (I know some Switch owners here are fine with sub 30 fps and subnative res I have to make that distinction)

Luckily I didn't preorder it yet. Just going for PC and run it on my TV since I know this won't have ultrawide.

Logically speaking, it should have ran the same on every version as this is a 360 game but it's clear they didn't care and only focused on the PS4 and PC versions while sidelining the other two and not putting any effort.

Though it is a *HUGE* shame the Xbox X version will still be locked to 30 FPS outside of battles.

That is ridiculous.

Every game without any X or Pro enhancements these days should get a huge social media shitstorm, that's just not acceptable.
Specially when a PC version with native 4K resolution and higher FPS exist. There is no excuse for this.

I still can't decide between the Switch and PS4 version.

Switch
  • Portability
PS4
  • Trophies
  • 60FPS out of battles
  • Themes/Avatars

I own Vesperia on the 360 and bought the PS3 Japanese release and even played the English translation patch that came out, so hard to make a decision. I feel I may end up buying both eventually.

Anyone know how prevalent the Switch's handheld mode issues are? If it's every now and then I think I can handle it, but if it's a constant problem then I might avoid that version.

Torn on whether to buy the game. The original is my favorite JRPG ever and I'm so interested in the new content, but I'm not sure if I can handle Yuri not being voiced by Troy Baker in some parts.

I know it won't hold (and I hope it rises!) but I find it kinda funny that 10 years ago folks couldn't believe the game only got a 79 on Metacritic and at this very moment this version has a 79 on Metacritic
