Girl, they can't be expecting me to be able to read these small ass UI messages and menu texts.

"You need 200 P to unlock this £<¥~*{*|", excuse me what

Still a long way to go (only about 10 hours in) but I gotta say, Rinwell is on a steady pace to join the likes Vivi, Lulu, Harle, and most recently Hubert in my JRPG Mage Hall of Fame. Terrific character and the most fun to play so far. She's a destroyer out there.

I considered changing controls, but I ended up feeling like putting either jump or one of the artes on r1 instead would be kinda weird, like one of artes is singled out for no reason.

I need to start paying better attention to the skits, Hootle's always making faces when he appears, mostly in the background. Nothing can top Rolo, but Hootle is definitely runner-up in the mascot department (discounting Repede since he's a playable character, but he is the best).

First impressions fifteen minutes in....

When reviews talked about great writing, I wasn't expecting to have this much character exposition. Very clunky and on the nose, and feels like any other anime-like game.

I can't tell if I don't like the voice acting, or if it is just the expositive dialogue dragging it down. Or maybe I'm tired of hearing the same VAs in game after game.

Game is gorgeous though!

The boss
Ooze Hive
destroyed me 3 times, I think I'm really underleveled but the small adds he keeps summoning were a pain in the ass, ended killing it spamming life bottles :(

lol ikr.
idk how they can cheese so hard with the water geyser. rinwell doesn't have her attack ready to even absorb it. once you get to the last segment he just like. killed them all? let me insta respawn them.

im barely working with anything here. might need to swap strat and let shionne use all those apple gels and conserve the CP for res.

EDIT: done. i had to heal myself as it would stop Shionne from doing anything. i had to save the 2 life bottles i had. getting combos and boost strikes up was something.
i ended up trying to save 1 or 2 of those minions so he doesn't respawn. but when theres like 5 doing the geyser. all i can do is dodge.

I am loving the combat in this so much, even relatively basic things with alphen like attack string -> launcher -> air attack string -> spike -> boost attack to replenish arte gauge -> repeat feels great. Even like playing Rinwell somehow when I usually avoid mages like the plague, and Law seems to be building up to be fun though he starts really basic.

Shionne on paper actually seems like a blast but currently feels the most restricted by the 3 arte limit. Either I ignore the healing entirely (rip everyone), or you have to ignore a bunch of her bombs which is her unique trait. I'll have to try her more when I can use more artes. Her aerial stuff is fun though.

I beat him, but what the fuck is the intended strat for the second lord? I scraped by, but that entire fight was ass.

If every boss fight turns into what that was, I think I'll just drop this game altogether.

Can you mute the VO for actions during combat ? It was so bad in the demo it's kind of a deal breaker for me. (Not the quality, the quantity was the issue because no one shuts up)

Equip the damage resistance accessories for light and wind, cook food that reduces elemental damage, make sure gear is up to date. It was hard but doable.

Took a little while but got him first try.

it's annoying yes and it was not fixed since the beta. you can't mute it either. It's a damn shame.

See, I did that (even doubled back to craft weapons after getting a bunch of Astral Crystal Fragments in the dungeon), and I still seemingly couldn't get past those (or at least what I assume are) DPS checks without

him successfully casting Indignation.

Side quests, while mostly basic moment-to-moment, have had some really cool, surprising, sometimes heart breaking payoffs that are specific to the areas' lore and politics. Reminds me a bit of Witcher 3, where in say Novigrad, they fleshed out the racist/xenophobic leanings of the city through its quest givers and their motivations. Wasn't expecting anything like that that here.

Just unlocked Mystic Artes but whose idea was it for the button combinations. if its the same move regardless of buttons press then okay.

Those that have played a fair bit, how "anime" is it?

That thread about the hot springs scene has turned me off a bit, but if it's one singular scene I can get past it. What's it like outside that? How sexist are the female characters? How skimpy are the outfits? How pervy is the dialogue?

Is anyone playing on PC and having severe audio issues? I've seen a few threads on Steam and what not but no fix.

The stuttering and desyncing is constant.
I'm thinking of switch to PS5 or Series X it's so bad.

It's nice to see that

Remixing the Giganto music from Vesperia is a series tradition now. I thought it was just a one off for Zestiria.

Yeah, a friend of mine asked me what I thought about side quests just prior to release and I told her that the structure's nothing to write home about, but the dialogue is often its own reward.

i appreciate the mouth movement when they speak. i wonder if its AI generated based on the text instead of the voices. because unvoiced dialogue move about the same length as the text itself for the most part. but voiced lines for the most part feels matched up?

Did some grinding with a nice surplus of 30k gald and 15 life pots and that got me through the second lord on hard, ha.

Alphen and Law's friendship has been a wonderful surprise.

They interact and just lose all there brain cells immediately, its great.

"Zoogle" is the least threatening name ever lol.

Proper nouns in Tales games always make me laugh.

I have so many games I need to beat that I shouldn't buy this game. Of course this means I bought it. Combat feels really good and for once the standard battle music stands out, very happy about that.

Wish the AI themselves could figure out not to use fire attacks on a fire-breathing dragon. When will this groundbreaking technology come to Tales?

Man this game is awesome, just passed the 3 boss and it is the best area so far, this zone is a step up in quality of the narrative.

2nd lord fight was hard as nails, wiped twice until I changed my party's focus to healing, and use life bottles even if they're less than 5. I love the level of control you have over everything.

Small story spoiler:

First major boss before title credit several hours in revealed a few flaws.

-AI refuses to use life bottles. Even tried to set AI rules/gambit to ONLY use life bottle if anyone required it(no other rules for testing). They don't comply. Setting the same for casting res spells(which dwindles CP useful for heals) works fine. Felt I just had to manually do it all with menu spam. Apple Gels work, but life bottles seem broken.

-Camera is usually ok in normal fights, but this boss had it break off constantly. It was often tilted at poor angles and made it difficult to see incoming attacks to dodge. Frustrating on hard where dodging is key. Perhaps this is due to the unusual circumstances in that encounter, but It often just kind of stopped focus aiming at weird angles despite the lock icon still active and off screen. Glitch perhaps, but ugh. Again, may just be that specific fight.

-"Strike" opportunities have a tiny window. Keep finding them disappear by the time I reach for dpad. Hard mode thing? I don't recall having issues in demo…

-Wish the OP theme didn't start until title reveal in game. Impact would have been better, but instead having it auto play every boot made that reveal less neat. I think other Tales games hid it before title card too? Xillia?
