I'm not shocked by this at all. I used to live in Batesville, AR. It is a dry county so everyone would drive to Newport for their alcohol. As soon as you hit the border, it was nothing but liquor stores. Everyone down there is a bunch of hypocritical christians who do not practice what they preach.

I hope she gets a significant boost from the press.

yep, everyone from batesville shops at George's Liquor in newport. Source : me having lived in batesville.... and also newport. both towns (and the entire state) are complete shitholes. Sex workers need to be made a protected class, and at will employment should be outlawed

This certainly screams retaliatory. Not necessarily from someone who works with her, either. It could be anyone in town that she's turned down calling into corporate and pretending to be someone they are not. Fast food corporations don't really care about their hourly workers or even managers. My son got fired from Jack in the Box because a customer called corporate to complain because my boy pointed out their safety rules due to COVID. No, I'm not kidding. It's as dumb as it sounds. And if corporate calls and tells a manager to get rid of someone because of a complaint, the manager doesn't have much recourse.

In fact, it has to be someone who knew beforehand, because afaik Taco Bell has a nation-wide mask policy with COVID for their workers, so she was very likely wearing a mask during shifts, especially in the drive thru. So I'd question how someone "recognized" her.

Let's talk shit about Batesville then.

When I moved there in 1995, Mtv was banned from their cable network.

I ran a Book/Video/Music store there (Crossroads, which was bought out by Boarders, which went out of business) and they forbid me from ordering Marylin Manson's Antichrist Superstar, a MASSIVE hit. I had to tell *dozens* of people a day that we refused to carry it. They just went down the street to WalMart and bought it. Speaking of WalMart, the Batesville super store discounted their music more than other WalMarts with the express purpose of putting Blue Meanie out of business (the one and only local mom & pop music store that I'm sure has been gone for decades now).

There was a judge in town that would drop your tickets if you bought him a case of beer or if women showed him their tits. It was completely an open secret.

Everyone I ever met there drank and drove. All the time. The all had open containers as they drove. It freaked me the fuck out. I told them that if you were in Michigan and cops caught you, your ass was going to jail and your car would be impounded. In Batesville, the local cops just laughed it off.

I drove back and forth to Michigan and had to take Highway 55 through MO that had a section of "Adopt a Highway" by the fucking Klu Klux Klan.

Man, I could go on and on. I was only there 4.5 years but fuck that entire state.

Sounds like an excuse to fire her. Who knows, maybe she was late a lot or was spending too much time in the bathroom on her hair and make-up?

Could be similar to a Jussie Smollett situation.

well thank god we have you here to speculate on that

what compels you to walk into a thread and write that shit apropos of nothing, exactly

It's not exactly an in-depth piece. I'm sure everyone had similar outraged reactions to the initial Jussie stories. The hair and make-up thing is the first line in the article -- or did you not read it?

Lonna Wells was in the bathroom doing her hair and makeup when she received a call that she won't soon forget.

Many people do their hair and makeup before work. Especially when you work customer service. If you get a call from work it's usually before you head in. It's just setting the scene and is something millions, if not billions, of people do everyday.

Why is this where your mind goes when reading this news? The article mentions this was her house.

From other posters, it seems they don't need an excuse to fire her. So why do you need to create this weird fantasy.

The article is clearly not newsworthy and is designed to create a reaction in people. There is something fishy that can break either way about the story. We don't know and casting hasty judgement can lead to embarrassing outcomes like the Jussie Smollett story. Maybe the porn thing wasn't a big deal to the manager and she just stupidly used it as a flimsy excuse to fire a bad employee.

why would any employer do this when they can just fire you for being a bad employee?

Your right its not in depth, so why are you missing the point so hard?

Edit: Can you also stop with the Jussie Smollet comparisons and blaming the victim? This is no where near the Jussie Smollet case and your just making yourself look terrible for comparing it to it

It's as news worthy as the cast majority of stuff that gets reported. Somewhat interesting to locals and picked up by wire services. Women getting fired for porn is a relatively common occurrence that pops up multiple times a year. It appeals to a lot of different sensibilities such as general interest in sex work, moral outrage vs relavence to the job, and people who just like gawking at people who do porn. It's no fishier than when a teacher gets the boot because they posted some nudes ages ago and someone stumbled on them.

If the point is that you shouldn't be fired for being a sex worker -- I agree.

But, I could easily see a manager using the porn thing as justification rather than saying she isn't a good fit for the Taco Bell.

So I looked her up out of curiosity and to support her.

Shes not easy to find on the website. Just typing her name in search doesnt pull her up.

Someone must have put in some effort to find her. This was no accident lol.

How is a controversial firing like this some sort of cover so that she doesn't have to fire the employee for doing a bad job? In an at-will state?

Also, you shouldn't try to play the grammar card when your opener had 2 out of 3 sentences that weren't even proper sentences.

yeah, wear masks if you're going to do porn.

We don't live in a fair world. You can be fired for making a company look bad for anything you do.

Yes, because all managers are fair arbiters of the rules. As others have stated, she's not exactly a well known actress. I could easily see it being a personal thing between her and the manager. If you want to be outraged by a sensational story, then fine. It's not the full picture

You've been backed into a corner and aren't even addressing the point of the post you quoted, while being condescending and aggressive. You came into the thread to start an argument because you misinterpreted the first sentence in the article.

Seems like you're the one outraged at nothing.

Who cares? If its personal or not, its a shitty reason to do it. Whats your point? no one is arguing if the manager had or didnt have a personal vendetta, she couldve been the worst employee at a taco bell on the fucking planet. She could have been screwing the manager and half of Arkansas for all I care, but the reasoning her manager used to fire her is why people are upset. You should never be fired from your job for what you do in your personal time.

I agree with everything here

edit: The public facing reasoning is completely stupid, but may not have been the actual reason why she was fired.

America
I know that if I saw a porn actress at some fast food joint (or even a woman with a faint resemblance), I would go crazy with lust, get naked and start leg humping other customers. I would then run naked out the restaurant while leaving my kids in there. You would all do the same.

Plus, I don't want my food touched by a hand that has also touched a vagina or a penis, even if it was washed after. I only want food from people who never touched their privates in their life. Not even as a baby, because their parents put gloves on them at birth. Don't you?

I assume this is why Taco Bell did what they did. Very logical and very cool.

The lady is a...well, you know - but I'm mad that the TB rolled on her so hard after a single complaint. Especially if the manager was cool with it, I assume then a district manager/GM type was like NAH CAN'T HAVE THAT IN MUH STORES.

I wonder if the manager accidentally told a co-worker and they blabbed it around.

Also isn't Taco Bell pretty cheap? How much money can the god fearing Christian possibly be spending to justify them giving a shit? They'd make more money from the publicity of her working there.

I knew people like this in rural MS too (and I'm related to a lot of them!). One guy had what he thought was the perfect argument if he got pulled over while driving drunk.

"Officer, is the road straight?"
*repeat over and over until the cop says no*
"Then how do you expect me to drive straight?"

He had 4 DUIs when I met him, so it clearly wasn't persuasive
