So SNES games are soon out on Switch and most people are quite happy with this..

... but it has been 2.5 years!!

Remember when we expected GameCube titles? There were credible reports they were already up and running and technically it has proven to work on similar nvidia hardware
With this speed we can expect GameCube in 2021 at the EARLIEST. They will probably release GBA 2020, N64 2021 and then we are on the next switch

Remeber when you expected a Switch firmware to actually, you know, do something you notice. Like skins, new useful functions, updated shop interface? Anythinh

I dont expect any real surprises from Switch anymore.
Now we can expect Snes trickle for 12+ months and probably no changes to the UI.
No unlocking of high clockrates on the new Switches.
No unusal games like Wave Race, Punch Out or the weird 3ds games.
I expect Mario, Zelda, Kirby etc and spinoffs of these series

Frankly it is making the platform seem predictable and not as exciting as it could have been imo
Anyone agree?

Nah.

Switch is on fire.

Most impressed I've been with a Nintendo console in years.

Bought and played a new Switch game at a rate of once every other month or so (or even more frequently) this year - and indeed pretty much since launch.

All the stuff you've referenced is nice to have as additional, but it's the games themselves that matter - and Switch has been delivering fairly consistently in that regard.

Nah you're reaching big time here. There is every chance that the Switch will get an 80+ MC exclusive game every month from June-November.

It's nuts.

It's in the running for my favorite system ever. A few more knockout hits and it will be the weapon that surpasses the PSX.

I get what you're saying about disappointing firmware updates. "Basic White" and "Basic Black" are such lol terms for the only two color themes ever released. But when it comes to the games — the main course — I'm over the moon.

I'd like Nintendo to stay this course. Going forward I hope this package of classics is standard for their online subscription and as time goes by I hope they keep adding console packages to the list. Of course, this is Nintendo and you never know with them so I do have lower expectations but I am also still hopeful.

Imagine having the library the switch has, and thinking like this .
Some of these are fair criticism, but the conclusion is a bit of an exaggeration.

The SNES thing is definitely one of those "Aw nice!" but also "about damn time" things but otherwise I'm pretty satisfied. Great console, even with the usual Nintendo wonkiness.

Unlocking higher clockrates is an unrealistic exception.

Astral Chain was just released, which is an 'unusual' 1st party game.

The games are fine, but there being a ton of ports could make it feel like they're not doing enough new stuff. We will see those kinds of titles eventually.

But about the system features, yeah, I'm disappointed and don't expect much to improve there.

Bruh they just announced deadly premonition 2

That's a weirder, bigger surprise out of left field announcement than fucking Shenmue

I honestly don't give a fuck about the addition of old games. I want to play mew games. SNES games are great but its npt like I havent played Yoshi's Island or Super Metroid a million times already.

There are definitely things I'm disappointed in, but overall it's going to pass the DS as my favorite and most played system ever. I mean, jesus, as of this morning I have 183 games installed on my system and easily another hundred in my wishlist. Thing's on fire.

You're reaching really hard here man. If you're this wild about it you can always mod your Switch.

Yep, that it's taken this long to get SNES games on Switch is an embarrassment. I'm not going to congratulate Nintendo on finally catching up to capabilities from damn 15 years ago. At this point I have no faith they're planning to put up a full backlog.

Well some things can't change without access to a time machine.

Some of you love to bitch even when you exactly got what you've been asking for.....lol.

Switch is on the warpath of being the best Nintendo console ever, but I agree with you on some aspects. Folders and themes should've appeared a long time ago. I also am wondering about the status of handheld focused Nintendo franchises like WarioWare, Rhythm Heaven, Chibi Robo, Tomodachi Life, Mario RPGs, etc. And yeah, Switch isn't going to live up to be the ultimate Nintendo archive with NES-Wii VC including handhelds. But I can't complain at all about the incredible software library. Developers that have never even looked at Nintendo's way are putting out great versions of their games. Switch has an absurd fall, literally too many games.

User warned: lazy dev rhetoric
Yes, Nintendo is being lazy and giving the bare minimum necessary to sell.

but it's not a excellence work, and this is frustrating. I always expected premium quality from Nintendo

I very much rather have BOTW 2 than any of the "unusual" games you list lol, and at the end of the day games like BOTW, Odyssey, Smash, etc.. are the ones making the console a succes becasue it's what people want even when the OS and online are disapointing.

People are generally happy because the Switch is getting tons of games, but you are right OP in so far as the drip feed of their classic games is 100% disappointing

My favorite system has been the snes, but it's tied to the time it released, my life as a teenager.
The switch is quietly becoming my favorite console ever, eventhough I can understand the complaint of "too many ports".
It's without doubt the system I already have bought the most games for.

I'm a recently Switch buyer myself, OP, so I can't relate to everything you are saying, but I do get it to a certain extent. I'm pretty bummed that we don't have some sort of Mario Strikers on Switch or any of the wacky sports game from the GCN era. I don't care too much about themes and folders even though I loved them on the 3DS. I quite like the simplistic design of the Switch's UI. I'd certainly wish for them to expedite the NSO game availability, though. While I love SNES games (NES games do nothing for me), my 3DS is still king if I want to play SMW or anything of the sort.

The only impact I wonder about is if the SNES games would impact on the Indies, but probably not.

Yeah the stuff that really gets me moist is higher clockrates and UI changes. I'm one of those gamers that mainly buys consoles for the update process. Now if you throw in some REST changes for the newsfeed I'll be super happy.

The Switch is severely lacking in a lot of things. Amazed it has done so well despite the glaring issues the platform has.

I can't agree at all, new must have games are coming out at a machine gun pace. Nintendo's main IPs and their spinoffs vary so much into other genres, you can't compare something like SMO and Luigi's Mansion 3 as just Mario games,l.

There's been a great stream of fresher IPs as well, from we had Splatoon 2 and Arms right around launch, now we're getting amazing games like Astral Chain and Daemon x Machina, AC is taking Platinum's amazing talent for action and adding exciting new layers, where as DxM is bring some classic armored core style mech action back, creating experiences that you won't find on any other console currently.

SNES launch timing is just a smart business move to re-up NSO subs after a year.

Switch is doing very well as a platform overall, but their online offering that is subpar when compared against Xbox Live circa 2006 and their insistence on dragging their feet when it comes to their enormous back catalog can both be pretty annoying.

Hard to be too mad because the platform is giving me more than enough to keep me busy. But, still, I'm not historically a Nintendo Guy, so I was looking forward to them continuing the trend of releasing their back catalog on their flagship platform. Compared to what Xbox is doing, Nintendo has put forth a pretty pathetic effort on this front. Not gonna thank them for figuring out SNES games in 2019, and I won't be thanking them when they figure out N64 and GBA in 2021.

Between my Xbox One X and Switch I have more games than I could ever possibly hope to complete. I am having a blast with all manner of experiences I have never had before yet the general sentiment on Era seems to be that I should feel depressed for some reason.

I go to local meet-ups and tourneys. Every January I go to MAGFest. I am part of two dedicated Switch Discord servers for adult players. Just about every single person I talk to is enthusiastic or at least positive about their Switch which mostly seems to depend on how much free time they have for playing games.

If anybody chooses to be disappointed in their Switch that is their prerogative. We all have different tastes and needs. It just feels like pessimism is mostly concentrated on sites like this.

It's a shame that SNES games have taken a while to get onto the Switch, but new games win out for me.

Also I wouldn't really call Wave Race or Punch Out 'unusual' games, but we have had new titles for the system that are a bit different from the usual stuff - ARMS, Astral Chain, Sushi Striker, Labo

It can be simultaneously true that the Switch is inexplicably missing features and enhancements that would seem trivial to add, and that the system is also fucking drowning in games and kind of an embarrassment of riches.

I get where you are coming from for sure. As great as the system is, it has its random quirks and drawbacks that most of us just live with because what they are doing right... they are doing right so well. It feels like a system that is getting a bunch of A's and a few C's and D's in areas that it feels like Nintendo simply isn't interested in.

For me though, the system has so many games already that they could stop releasing any more games at the end of the year and I would have enough to play through for another 2 years easily.
