I will never forgive Ristar for placing himself on the right half of the screen in a typically left to right platformer, who does that?! smash has no place for such villainy, except when Kirby had his dreamland 3 phrase and the camera scroll couldn't keep up with his sprint.
To be fair, the game is slow paced enough that I rarely notice this as an issue.
All in all, a kink that could've been ironed out in later games... that never fucking happened.
I only played the bad SNES game and the even worse XBLA game.
I mean, that should be expected all things considered. Those things being:
- Sonic 1 already felt super dated just a year later with Sonic 2; and even more-so after Sonic 3.
- Ristar released at the end of the Mega Drive's life, and by that point Sonic Team had plenty of experience.

That's how the game's title is phonetically written in Japanese ("ri-su-ta"); it's a short 'i' sound.
So not Ree or Rye, but Rih or Reh likely depending on your accent?
