I got one random question for everyone, what was your biggest "surprise" announcement at E3? Remember I mean as in first time reveal, so something like Super Smash Bros Ultimate doesn't count. I'm trying to think of mine right now lol

Counting all publishers: FF7 Remake in 2015.

Nintendo in particular: Breath of the Wild, actually. From the get-go, I was hella intrigued.

he's the one who insisted on 60 hours of gameplay before it became fun.

Nintendo Japan has started a new interview series "Ask the Developers". The first installment is Game Builder Garage. The developers talked about what they learned from Labo, the design of "nodons" and lesson plan, and how to guide the users through while having fun. I don't know if this series will be translated to English like "Iwata Asks"; for now you may need to rely on Google Translate if you can't read Japanese.

Is there anything actually pointing to a Zelda anniversary thing in the Direct? Or is it all just Speculation Based on Nothing That's Being Treated As Guaranteed™

The fact that GameStop has Zelda anniversary posters for distribution as of June 15th, which happens to be the same day as the direct, kinda heavily implies they'll have something about it in the direct.

I remember spending hours downloading videos from E3 2004. Just got this new fangled cable internet a few weeks prior and I had to test it out! I had a folder on my PC that contained a bunch of trailers and of course Nintendo's conference. Watched that Zelda trailer with Windows Media Player probably a hundred times.

Isn't it sad that it's to be expected from Nintendo to fuck up even the most basic things? Like, it should be 100% in a year of Zelda, but look how many doubts is still in us.

I'm one of the people who'd prefer Ocarina/Majora remaster from 3DS, but WW/TP is more likely... IF it happens at all.

Eh, that's less on Nintendo than people just being pessimists

I thought someone had shared images of them and they were indeed anniversary related. Were those fake or something?
Nah, I'm not saying they're fake (I saw the image, it had a render of TP Link, right?), I'm just unsure whether or not it's an actual anniversary-branded poster or just a standard poster.

Although, even if it's anniversary branded, I don't think that necessarily means we'll have a specific "Zelda 35th" section in the Direct itself.

Kirby Air Ride has a special place for me. It's overall not amazing, but I love it. The City Trial area was such a cool concept, I spent absolutely way too much time messing around in that sandbox. No other games I played around that time, especially from Nintendo, had that simple toy like quality. As a kid I was content just running around the castle in Mario 64 for hours. And when I played City Trial, it reinforced to me that games don't need to have an objective to be fun.

I'm not the type of person who expects a ton of things because a franchise is having an anniversary, let alone 35th anniversary. Like we might get a ton of Zelda stuff this year. We might not. Anniversaries are mainly marketing opportunities for companies. We are putting a lot of importance on Zelda's 35th because Mario got a ton of stuff for his. But I don't remember people angrily demanding a Zelda Direct for the 30th anniversary in 2016. We got Twilight Princess HD and Breath of the Wild trailers. So if Nintendo releases Skyward Sword and shows off BoTW 2, it would be on par with what we got 5 years ago.

Like are we going to do the same thing again in 5 years? Demand Nintendo release ports of previous Zelda games while also complaining about more ports of Zelda games? Don't answer that. I already know the answer.

FF7R was definitely exciting. I'd never played FF7 (started playing FF from 8), and I was just blown away by the production. Final game exceeded my expectations - probably just under God of War as my favorite PS4 game.

With Breath of the Wild, was the announcement of the title much of a surprise? I guess I didn't personally get a feeling for the scope of the game until closer to launch, or E3 2016. Before then it was just the next Zelda to me

Honestly Splatoon. I was instantly in love with the art and world, and was super excited even though I generally hate competitive online games.

Now it's all I play and I am hoping for a Treehouse segment on Splatoon 3 more than anything else for E3.

For me it's Shenmue 3 at E3 2015. FF7R being announced like 5 minutes before that was the biggest moment ever, but it was incredibly short-lived. Yeah the game didn't turn out super great, but I had been waiting for more than a decade for it.

Well people don't become pessimists for no reason. Like remember when we were all sure Retro's new game would be at the whatever Nintendo Direct was next? No one would have expected one of the most revered dev studios in the world would have nothing to show for 5 years of work. That's one of the worst examples, but there's a list of disappointing stuff in Nintendo's history. I'm optimistic about this E3 but I certainly don't blame anyone else for having low expectations.

That went on for years. Awful times.

100 from 7 critics and 8.5 from 330 users is pretty telling how critics dont matter
the game was being review bombed by people who were bothered by it getting a perfect score (the vast majority of them haven't played it), and for a niche game like this getting only perfect scores (even if it's only 7) is a big deal.

How is it less on Nintendo? They are known for not doing the most obvious things and pulling off crazy marketing stunts. The true wild horse of gaming industry.
They've been pretty consistent with Mario and Zelda anniversaries for over 10 years now. You kinda have to throw all that out the window to expect nothing from Zelda this year.

That said - I do think the expectations around anniversaries are a little weird. There's nothing about this year that's inherently better for releasing a Zelda compilation than last year or next.

What's copping a PS5 like these days? I'm guessing brutal? I got mine during launch week and it was helllll… hopefully that process has gotten a bit better.
Enjoy your PlayStation! Good week to get one with Ratchet and FF7R Intergrade coming.

I have no idea what it was like during launch week but nowadays you don't really have a chance unless you have alert bots active (not buying bots... just alert bots) and even then it isn't guaranteed you get one. I tried for 2 months until I succeeded and I only did because I was alrd on the site when it happened and they had bigger stock than usual.

The shops here in Germany are trying things to prevent bots from buying them, like I bought them at an online store that didn't deliver via package but you had to actually pick it up in person at your nearest store of the chain... others write it like "Pl aY Sta Tion 5" so the dumb bots can't find it.

But it's still pretty bad. Here in Europe add to the usual shortage that th2e Ever Given is still stuck in Egypt because they are fighting over compensation for when it got stuck in the Suez Canal ... it's pretty likely a lot of consoles that were meant for Europe are on that ship.

So yeah, still not nice. Got a friend and a colleague still looking for one after months.

I'd say almost the opposite, since it was probably review-bombed or manipulated in some way. I haven't trusted user scores in a long, long time after they're been abused so much.

Recently, The Witcher 3 actually coming to Switch. I didn't believe the rumours and retail listings before.

It's not too bad if you have a Sony store in your area. They regularly restock (every 2 weeks, maximum) and the waits would not be too bad since most customers these days are online and no one thinks to go to the shops for some reason. I've bought 6 PS5s so far and none of them took more than 3 days to get. And to be clear, the 6 aren't for me, I was just helping other people get them lol.

What would you prefer? Zelda BotW 2 and switch pro this year, but no other games announced. Or Metroid 5, Bayonetta 3, new DK and new Kirby this year, but the Switch pro and Zelda BotW is late 2022.
Zelda + Pro. I'd love Bayo and Metroid, but don't care about DK or Kirby one bit. And having Zelda and the Pro late 2022 sounds awful.

BotW2 being announced so early. I mean we knew from our Captain that a 3D Zelda was supposed to be released in 2020 (at least internally) but I didn't expect them to announce it before Link's Awakening was even out.

Devil May Cry 5. Huge action game fan and they don't make many of them anymore. The remake was awful and I figured they gave up on the franchise. I didn't see it coming at all and I was glad to SSS it all the way through.
