I'm curious:

1. Is Switch your only "current gen" console?
1a. If so, are you satisfied with it?

2. Do you plan on purchasing a PS5 or XBS console in the future (or do you already own one or both of them)?

1. Yes
1a. Definitely! I have a bunch of games I love to play on here. I usually only ever stick to a couple games at a time consistently, and thumbing slowly through my backlog (I've only finished three new games this year outside of Splatoon or BotW that I usually always pick up for fun), but I enjoy the time I spend with this console.

2. I would love to buy a PS5 if I had the money to get it and a tv that wasn't 720p and super smol :P

Eh, enough people in the know have commented on it, and besides, even the 25th anniversary Zelda celebration had more than one game release (three, in-fact). Skyward Sword HD not being the only Zelda release this year isn't a dangerous prediction at all.

Was the third Four Swords Anniversary Edition? Would be cool if they released that again since that's one I missed. Although, it would probably be anniversary only so the whole outrage train would return to service at platform 5 again.

Am I the only one who thinks/hopes that the next mainline FE game is gonna be another brand-new one and then a remake after that?
That'd be great but I'm hoping the next FE comes out this year (could happen with Koei Tecmo seemingly doing so much for Three Houses) and I'd be shocked if they got out 2 new mainline entries only 2 years apart

Yep; Four Swords Anniversary Edition, Ocarina of Time 3D and Skyward Sword were all 2011.

1.- Yes. And I'm very satisfied.
2.- I'd like to buy one of those (PS5 or XSS, depending on how the gen develops) or maybe update my PC (currently own a 2013 laptop, which can run ANSYS and other engineering SW but no current or last gen games).

Even if it is a remake next, I guess I'd still be pretty hype if it were actually developed by IS with great graphics, lol. I'd still much rather IS be working on a brand-new game for 2022 though, and I think that makes the most sense given the 3ds release schedule for FE, and I think that'd be a better way to wow people than "just" a remake, and imo would be significantly more likely to make FE even bigger than 3H, which I'd love to see happen, of course.

What I'm thinking is something that basically mirrors the 3ds era. So a new game, and then a second new game 3-ish years later, and then a late-life remake with quicker turnaround than the previous game that functions as both a way to experiment with new mechanics that make their way into the next "generation" of FE and as a stopgap to make the wait for the first brand-new game on the next console less painful.

Guess we'll just have to Wait and See™ lol. Given that Nintendo announces some games that are 1+ years away, including 3H itself, it's not that unlikely to see a brand-new FE game revealed at E3 this year for a Summer or Fall 2022 release, imo.

2. Nah, I have a great PC and that's where I play third parties in, not interested in Sonys Exclusives.

I don't know why I'm so zen about the Switch Pro announcement? It'll happen when it happens. I just have such a good feeling about their E3 show and anything else is icing on the cake. So excited for Nintendo's next 12 months.

1. Yes, but I would say PC is always my most current gen
1a. With the first party output definitely. Indies are nice but it is kinda annoying when a game that would be obvious for switch isn't coming. In Switch Third parties I'm not really interested in outside of AA games like Lego or paid exclusives like Monster Hunter
2. Maybe a PS5 if I want to try out Sony exclusives at some time. For most third parties I've Steam and co. and for Microsoft exclusives Gamepass.

I own both a Switch and a Series X. Love both systems and play them about equally tbh. Just depends on the games I want to play at the time. I may be interested in a PS5 in the future but right now I'm not incredibly interested in their first party line up and they lack something like Gamepass that entices me.

1) No, I have a PS4. I also occasionally use my PC if that counts.

1a) Hell yeah, it's a great piece of hardware (even if I almost never take it out of the dock lol) and having every new Nintendo game in one place and being able to play all of them as console games OR handheld games is great. Plus, any console that promises big new release in a select few franchises I love over any other Nintendo IP is always gonna elicit a "worth it" response from me, lol. 2 3D Zeldas, likely 2 or 3 Fire Emblems, Metroid Prime 4 AND a new 2D game, at least 1 if not 2 3D Marios, maybe even a new Mario Kart and new DK? All this on one, relatively capable (tech/graphics-wise) console? Of course I'm satisfied! Not to mention great 3P exclusives and all the other "lesser" (for my taste) but still good Nintendo IP's on the Switch.

2) I'll probably get a PS5 when there are a couple "must-have" next-gen exclusives on it and I can find/afford one lol. No interest in Xbox.

2. Already have a PS5, still would buy games on Switch if theres nothing I find excessive (load times/framerate)

1. Yes. I used to have a PS4 and XB1 but sold them while they were still worth something (before the next gen consoles were announced) and I have been coasting on Switch and PC ever since.

1a. Frankly, I don't miss the HD twins that much at all.

2. Eventually. Maybe a year from now.

Welp, that's official, I now have a university degree in cinema. Nice. Funny to think that I joined ResetEra right before I started the degree lol
Congrats, friend! Let's make a movie together :)
Here's a mix of how I think and hope the E3 direct will go

- Opens with a 2D DK trailer, comes out September, takes 2-3 minutes
- 1 minute spent on an intro with Doug Bowser
- 2 minutes spent on a new Monkey Ball announcement. Dated early 2022.
- 2 minutes spent on Bayonetta 3. Coming 2022.
- 6 minutes spent on Metroid. There's a short intro, leads into Metroid 5 developed by Mercury Steam, comes out October. Then Samus in fortnite, comes out after the direct. Then just a mention of MP4 like with Bayonetta 3 after Astral Chain.
- 3 minutes spent on Splatoon 3. They show the new main duo and some of the single player. It's more story based and ambitious than 1 and 2, has some exploration elements. They'll play through an area in the treehouse. It gets dated for spring or summer 2022
- 3 minutes spent on SMT V, it'll come out in November.
- There's a 2 minute Pokemon Legends trailer that reveals little new. They cut back to Doug Bowser. He mentions BDSP coming out this fall.
- 2 minutes spent on Project Triangle Strategy. Not much new info.
- 2 minutes spent on another Fire Emblem Echoes game. It'll be one of 3-6. Comes out October.
- 2 minutes spent on Hyrule Warriors DLC pack 1.
- 2-3 minutes spent on NMH3.
- 4 minutes spent on Smash. They reveal one new character, it's Lloyd Irving. Then they cut to Sakurai who just talks about how the character will come out in July and the DLC is coming to a close. No 3rd pass or second character.
- 3 minute sizzle real. Has Mario Golf, Skyward Sword, and upcoming third party games like Neo TWEWY, MH Stories 2 and the Great Ace Attorney collection. They'll probably reveal a couple more ports in it.

This is where the end starts. They go for a double or triple reveal.

- 2 minutes spent on a new Monolithsoft game. It isn't Xenoblade. It's an action RPG. It gets dated for 2021 and will get a December release date in the September direct.
- 3 minutes spent on BotW2. It gets a full trailer and name, and either a release date of November 2021 or March/Spring 2022.
- If the release date is 2021 the direct ends on it. Otherwise, it ends with a teaser for Mario Kart 9 or Odyssey 2 dated 2022.

Then treehouse has 5 or 6 segments. BotW2, DK, Metroid, Fire Emblem, Monolithsoft, maybe Smash DLC or Pokemon. As it's only 3 hours and is presumably being done online by Nintendo employees, I suspect it'll be all first party.
This is simultaneously a dream scenario and a decently realistic one, which makes me super excited. IMO, drop MK9/Odyssey 2 OR Bayo 3 and this is looking like it really could happen.

1. Yes and yes (for the most part). Just wish it had a better sports genre representation, particularly PES.
2. No. Would only be for one or two games maybe so it's not worth the investment.

I enjoyed my 30-or-so hours with Three Houses as my first Fire Emblem game, but whether it was the ugly graphics, the personally repetitive monastery, or my lack of familiarity with the strategy genre, it never fully clicked. I dug the characters though.

Kind of surprised how few Fire Emblem votes there are in the poll.

My first Fire Emblem was Three Houses and I put in almost 200 hours. Still have some temptations to play and then I remind myself I have no reason to.

1. I own both a PS4 and Xbox One X. Bought them years after they release for a cheap price. Like I usually do with consoles.
- yeah I'm happy with it. Tho I personally don't think Nintendo have done a great job with its software releases as many others do.
2. I plan on buying both Series X and PS5 later in the future. Usually after a revision so it'll be a while

FE4 remake would be way more hype than a new FE game in my opinion. People who haven't played the game are in for a treat if that's the next FE title. Hopefully people can go into it without being spoiled.

1. I have a Switch and PS5 (which replaced a PS4 Pro)
1a. Switch is my favorite console of all time, passing SNES, its just the best device ever. PS5 is essentially a PS4 Pro Pro right now, the controller is legit incredible and the lack of loading is such a huge quality of life improvement. I'm pretty excited for Ratchet and Clank, but so far the only game i really loved was Miles Morales (Demon Souls was very much not my jam at all). I think the GOW2 and GT7 news being on PS4 too is disapointing, but i wont buy GT7 and i'll wait till GOW2 is like $10 (i liked the first one..but it was like a 7/10 for me...not the masterpiece of gaming everyone else says it is). Also a good part of non-nintendo systems is that if you wait like 6 months to play a game they go on sale for like $20 and if you wait till black friday you can buy a ton at $10.

2. I'd consider purchasing and XSX...but they dont have many (any?) exclusive games i want, but Bethesda can change that very fast with the right announcements. But I am really impressed by the backwards compatibility stuff they're doing to get to 60/120fps on old games, and generally like the gamepass concept. Would not consider a gaming PC, as I've already done that in the past and its too expensive to keep up and I'd rather play on my living room couch.

I'm super excited for Nintendo's E3- really hoping to see something Fire Emblem, Monolithsoft's next project, and anything Zelda-related (hopefully some BOTW2).

Watching the discourse and emotions regarding the Switch Pro has been a rollercoaster this week- I am looking forward to its eventual unveiling but my mind is fully focused on what the E3 Direct will be.

Thanks ! Lovely idea !
Though my diploma didn't gave me much technical knowledge and experience, it was a degree about analysis, theories and aesthetic ! Basically, a degree to become a searcher/teacher in cinema aesthetic/theories, or a critic lol
That's extremely useful knowledge, especially as a lover of film criticism, analysis, and theory myself! Can't wait to see how your journey begins and gradually unfolds

Dunno about you guys, but besides my hard-on for the next FE game hypothetically being developed by IS themselves, the other major thing I want from the next new game is for it to be more similar to Echoes besides the terrible map design lol.

What I mean by that is: make it more like a JRPG with SRPG battles (like Shining Force). Give us proper equipment! Give us another world map! Give us dungeons, towns, and other major points of interest to explore! But, unlike Echoes, make everything free-roam exploration instead of just the dungeons. This would really help fix the issues with the blandness and repetitiveness of the monastery imo.

I don't think this is unlikely to happen either, given Echoes wasn't that long ago, it was the last IS developed game, free-roam probably isn't going away regardless and this would be a good, natural way to expand the scope, and 3H takes some inspiration from it anyway.

Also, smaller things I want: 1 story (no split paths), actual, real character as the protagonist (no avatar), unique setting, and I hope IS isn't afraid to make more complicated maps with unique, never before seen gimmicks, some of which can take advantage of the fact FE is back to being fully 3d instead of having an overhead view with sprites.

My friend is sweating over this stuff, he was basically about to buy a switch until all the rumors of a reveal soon started. I think he thought like many that it won't come until 2022.

Although I did tell him if it doesn't get announced by E3 then he can just buy a used one. The market is flooded with switches now, people clearing theirs I guess all thinking the same about the pro coming out soon.

1: Yes, and it's my favorite gaming console format ever.

2: No, I already have a PC and although there are some PlayStation games of my taste (less so nowadays; Japan Studio still hurts) nothing would turn PS5 worth to me. I got a free PS4 because reasons and I've only played like five or six games since 2014, was more of a Blu-ray player than a console to me.

I mentioned this before in the thread, but the fact that Samus Returns was announced like that was bonkers and unfortunately probably some kind of indication of what Nintendo thinks of Metroid (at least then, which wasn't too far off...)

Hoping for better for MPT or the new 2D Metroid.
it was probably more that it was on 3DS and a remake.

FE4 inspired Three Houses and it really shows. Though I would argue FE4 is much darker, I kinda hope Nintendo doesn't tone it down if they do remake it.
