I haven't speculated on Wario-something but Wario-something would make me very happy. Personally I've become really attached to the idea of Next Level taking him back into 3D, but it's also possible part of Intelligent Systems have been beavering away at a Ware title since 2018.

Argument against a next week announcement: E3 starts June 7th for the Media, Nintendo traditionally shows the direct to the Media during that time

They do? This is my first year signing on as media, and to be honest, I'm excited but I have little idea what to expect -- especially given the digital format. But that makes sense. Damn, I'm gonna have to vanish from this thread soon if so.

(But also, yeah, I'd be surprised if the Pro announcement doesn't happen until next week for sure.)

One final poll before tomorrow.

I know the vibe is tomorrow, but somehow I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo does it next Tuesday, so maintain the shortest possible time between news focusing on them ahead of the E3 schedule while maintaining hype going into one weekend and the MS presentation.

I personally think people put way too much stock on the "it's built from BotW!" thing as for it leading to a shorter development time. It's the sequel to Breath of the Wild. Expectations are super high. They're clearly not going to rush out an iterative, expansion-pack sequel. If that's what they were doing, we would already be playing it by now.

Zelda games are known for growing more ambitious over development.

I think they planned on it being a 2021 release, showed an early teaser for it in 2019 because of 2020 being all about Mario, and then the pandemic happened.
I agree with this. The idea that BotW2 would have a shorter dev cycle than the first game has always been odd to me. Yes, a lot of the heavy lifting was done during BotW1's development. But Aonuma and his team have an incredible task attempting to outshine the original and that's going to take a lot of time to accomplish. i think many will be surprised with how ambitious this game ends up being.

I want WarioWare more than almost anything

I'm shocked that Nintendo decided to go live on the last day of E3.

Does that mean that we're gonna see nothing else from them for the whole event? Why so stubborn with Tuesday, 9AM?

No Man's Sky updated to have DLSS........

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

(yeah that's coming to Switch Pro)

Nearly every big game will get DLSS support in the future, I don't think any of those are connected to the Switch. It's just a new technique coming up. Switch's not gonna have stellar 3rd party support from now on

What would cause a bigger implosion on ERA no BOTW2 at the direct or no Metroid?

You're more bearish on Metroid than I thought you would be. I hope for your sake we see something!
Thanks! I don't know if it's me subconsciously trying to temper my expectations or if I genuinely think it's less likely to happen, but that's what my intuition's telling me, and I'm generally pretty decent at guessing

I want a Wario World 2 so bad, haha. Absolutely loved Wario World when I was a kid.

My prediction:

-Nintendo unveils the updated model Switch, and pushes the current software with better fidelity. The big push will be BoTW running at 4K/60FPS and 60FPS on handheld mode.
-Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will be announced for the Switch, coming later this summer.
-A handful of games are going to be pushed with better fidelity, including 4K updates on Nintendo first party titles, we'll see Witcher 3 Enhanced Edition with patches that handles 60FPS, Age of Calamity with a 60FPS patch, etc.
-Splatoon 3 will be the holiday title.
Are you really expecting 4K 60fps in Zelda?
I don't think that's realistic, especially looking at the much kore powerful other consoles.
Or atleast it won't happen at native res.
DLSS is quite magical but I don't see it be that good.

are there any E3 presentations on Monday the 14th? Edit: Except limited run games on which I don't really care

I wonder if TMZ Prime is going to make a video on how his favorite clout chasing twitter insider said Splatoon 3 would get a tournament at E3 lmao

If Nintendo showcases 1 game for 10 minutes in the Treehouse then we'll get 18 games shown. Usually, in a normal treehouse the segments are about 15-20 minutes. So let's say the segments are 15 minutes then we'll see 12 games.

in 2019, each segment was roughly 30 minutes for first party games; animal crossing, luigi's mansion, pokemon, fire emblem, and link's awakening all got one that length. 10 minutes per game seems far too short imo

In previous years only the high-up publications have gotten early access to the major studios (the IGN's, Kotaku's, and traditional media outlets etc). There's also the Judge's Week, which seems to have already happened this year.

I didn't know anything when I went to E3 2018 in person, tho I wasn't part of the team going to conduct interviews and meetings.

This year's weird because it's opening the app to everyone on the 7th. So either stuff is going to be gated depending on outlet size/trustworthiness or it'll be barebones until it's filled in as streams happen.

The other thing to consider is timing. Mario just had a bunch of releases. In the last 9 months, we have seen all bar one of the old 3D Mario games appear on the Switch, plus a new mini adventure. I think they're gonna give the poor guy a break.
This is true, but also Mario is Mario. Nintendo hasn't really seemed too worried about Mario fatigue before.

If I were Nintendo, I'd think it made more sense to make a sequel to the 20M-selling SMO before spending a similar amount of resources to make, say, a 3D Donkey Kong game.

i know they won't because of the july-september timing, but i would love to see Skyward Sword all beefed up with DLSS - just to see how that art style looks

Thanks. <3 Yeah, that makes sense. I'm stoked but so clueless about what we'll be seeing once we're in there. I know several of us at RPGFan are hoping for developer interviews of some sort, even if it's not for any of the major studios. It'd still be cool!

When it comes to third-party news, I'm not a massive fan of Resident Evil but I'll be interested to see if that gets announced either through Capcom (are they doing an event?) or at Nintendo's Direct. Timed exclusive Resident Evil would be a big announcement for Nintendo to make themselves.

EA confirming they've got their shit together and that Switch is getting Mass Effect Trilogy would be noice. I can wait for news on Triangle Strategy because I'm yet to even try the initial demo, but I am desperate to see more of Dragon Quest III 2D-HD. Confirmation that's late 2021 would be amazeballs, so I'm tempering myself and thinking 2022 for that (which is probably way likelier). Ubisoft need to get their shit together in an entirely different way, but if Soliani and his team have done another Nintendo game, then Kingdom Battle 2 announced at Ubi's event would be good to see.

I'd like to see something come out of blue, whether from Nintendo themselves, or in the shape of a third-party making a major game with Switch as the lead platform. It should be the case that the swathe of Dragon Quest titles are using Switch as their lead platforms, but who knows. But another, less predictable franchise or new IP coming from another third-party would be good.
