I still say that anyone who's expecting this rumored 2D Metroid game to actually move the storyline forward needs to be very cautious. Nintendo is not known for successfully moving its ongoing series IPs in new storyline directions. Case in point: it took them 30 years to move the Zelda timeline forward past Zelda 2, and even then they still used the same "Save Zelda from Ganon, Link!" angle, just set 10,000 years in the future. Expecting a new Metroid game to have a different story, goal, set of villains, etc., is dangerous. You're still going to be exterminating Metroids, fighting Space Pirates, and having boss battles with a never-to-be-defeated Ridley. The whole thing with the Federation will remain unresolved. The Chozo will remain in the background. There is just no way Nintendo is ever actually going to do anything substantial with any of this stuff. Never gonna happen.

Even if this new 2D Metroid does move the story forward, it'll likely be in the same way BotW did, as an excuse for Nintendo to hit the "reset" button and do everything again, just with a satisfying new gameplay approach.

But you're not being spoiled of the story. You're just being "spoiled" by the existence of a product that you might someday buy.

Like, do you avoid watching tv because commercials might spoil the existence of a product for you? How else would you come to know about the product you might want to buy? Do you get mad when friends recommend games/tv shows/movies to you? "NO! I wanted to find that product by myself through Internet searching!"

It's literally just an advertisement. I don't see how that can possibly be "spoiled." But oh, well.

Like, with this Metroid thing above. If it shows up next week, it's literally an advertisement for an upcoming Metroid game. That's all it is. People are speculating it might be Metroid 5, but I highly doubt that it will be. If it turns out to be yet another remake or interquel, would fans be "upset" because they thought it would be Metroid 5 and it didn't turn out to be? Might it not actually be better for them to be "spoiled" about this ahead of time?

I don't see how we can put becoming aware of a company's upcoming product lineup a day or two before the company itself publicly announces it in the same category as actual spoilers, such as someone shouting out
"Snape kills Dumbledore!"
to a bunch of people waiting in line to buy Harry Potter 6.
I feel like the question can be flipped with this logic. If it's so insignificant a thing that it shouldn't matter to people, why bother spoiling it? Why insist on telling people before the advertisement?

There's no real point questioning it. Having announcements spoils makes people enjoy it less. There's not much else to talk about. It's fine if it doesn't for you.

Is there any list of announcements for the Switch so far?? Thread(s) have flown so fast that it was impossible for me to follow.

All I could gather from reading some messages is that M+R 2 is real.

Is Dough Bowser real?

Is Dawg Bowser real?

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, and Kingdom Come Deliverance have been announced for Switch as of right now.

Is a glorified commercial really that worth it?

I don't see a problem with reading a list of names a day or two ahead of time about what's going to be featured in a 40-mintue hype show.

As just one example, people here are throwing around the term "Metroid 5" as if it's a fact it's going to be there. Would it be better for a list of names to be revealed tomorrow and nothing that could pass as "Metroid 5" is on it, or for people to wait until the hype show ends on Tuesday before they get mad at themselves for hyping up a game that didn't exist and was never going to be presented due to it not actually existing?

We flock around these insiders' hints/rumors/what have you for months if not years and then shy away from seeing lists or leaks in the last day or two ahead of a hype show. It's just... weird to me, is all.

I fear this will be more true than ever now that Ridley is more popular and in smash
Guaranteed, which is another reason to be very restrained about expecting the Metroid IP to ever actually advance the timeline or do anything truly different with the basic set-up.

I ignore most insider stuff. If I want to watch a show, I want to see the trailers and stuff myself and I want the excitement that comes from not knowing what is going to happen. The anticipation of the unknown.

I don't watch every show. I don't even watch every Nintendo Direct. Even when I don't, I still don't look into leaks though.

At this point, enough people have told you it does bother them that it doesn't really matter if you don't understand it, just respect it.

I guess I'm out until Tuesday.

I like hints. I like teases. I like the occasional leak.

I don't like the entire contents of a presentation being dumped. That's no fun.

Practicalbrush I don't really get. Most leakers are doing it to get attention or followers or to try to make a career out of it, but as far as I know he just has a Reddit account.

Some people like to leak. It's giving people who follow them early access. That's all the clout they need, I guess.

They likely just leak because they have access in whatever job they're in and why not?

I hope that if Nintendo shows off a new BOTW2 trailer, they can outdo the BOTW trailer. That was hype. Still one of my favorite trailers ever.

yeah definitely going to go off the grid starting tomorrow or Monday which probably means I'll have to *gags* play a video game instead of talking about them on the internet to kill time now

I deal with inside knowledge sometimes, but I'm mostly blind re: Nintendo and I want to remain that way until the Direct. Maybe I'll dip from this thread til then, too. :P

Alright fine. If no one else will say it, then I will: Rabbid Peach for Smash.

She is easily the breakout star of that franchise and would be so much fun.

Easily my favorite trailer of all times. Always gets me so emotional and reminds me why I love and play games.

So, good luck, Nintendo. xD

On a tinfoil hat kind of thing:

Do we really believe leaking mario and rabbids early was "a mistake from Nintendo". I dont think it's that easy or common for N to make that mistake.

To me Ubisofts presentation was one huge subscription commercial so they wanted as many people (fans of N) to watch

Sure. After all, I'm not the one going around posting spoilers or leaks. I barely even comment.

But let's not pretend that any of this is rational behavior, because it isn't (especially the weird contradiction of following rumors for months and then backing away right before the actual hype show, which is ultimately nothing more than a glorified commercial).

there was no accompanying twitter post or press release. a dotcom page going live at 4:30 am pdt is incredibly unusual and not a great way to 'leak' a game. i think this was a human error from someone at noa.

who cares about it being a glorified commercial? Everyone has fanbases they are part of and things that are dear to them, so when something gets announced they are excited!

Incredible! What is its name? Please give it a little kiss from me
Will do! Not entirely sure on a name yet. The lady taking care him before was calling him Archie which I think fits him, but I've also been thinking about calling him Hector or something else. Obligatory kitten picture in spoiler tag.
