Couldn't resist that steelbook so the campaign just snagged another $20 from me. I do like the shinies. :)

Oh, am I supposed to add that amount to my pledge? I didn't see any text about how that works exactly. Wasn't sure if it was going to be a survey add-on or something like other Kickstarters have done after they ended.

I want to address the Project Phoenix thing, since it comes up a lot. To preface, I don't really care if you support the campaign or not, so I'm not trying to convince you of doing so. But the comparison isn't really fair or even terribly relevant, aside from the three common factors of being Kickstarter projects, RPGs and with some Japanese names attached. Which may sound relevant, but really isn't (like, what does being JRPGs mean for the projects at all? The idea feels a bit metaphysical to me) and ignores a myriad of other factors.

Anecdotally speaking, Project Phoenix looked iffy from the word go. I never had any faith in it and never understood the attention it got. It always gave off the vibe of being someone with some ideas and some connections, without any real, concrete plan. The Eiyuden Kickstarter has been transparent and clear in their messaging on every level, and unlike PP they actually have things to show beyond concept art and people's names. It might sound arrogant/presumptuous or like I'm calling you a sucker for something no one truly could've known the outcome of beforehand, but that's not my intention. So apologies if it feels like that.

In the end, to each their own. It's your money and nothing is a guarantee.
I backed 2 projects that fell flat and to me Project Phoenix looked legit since it had a lot of reputable names attached to it.
I haven't been following this Kickstarter closely, I only saw news about it and watched the trailer. I mean it reached its goal so I don't feel pressured to contribute. Suikoden 1 and 2 are among my favorite jRPGs so I'm actually looking forward to it.

I backed Project Phoenix too but nah in retrospect that kickstarter had all the bad signs over it.
You say because they had reputable names attached to it but when you read the kickstarter it's clear all those names are only attached to it in a freelancer fashion. Also the project lead Yuasa isn't a producer/designer he's a musician by trade. Most of the stuff they've shown were only concept art.
Of course it's also a bit the result of the kickstarter meta changing based on the failures but it's still noteworthy that the videos they've shown for eiyuden right out of the gate are a much more solid indicator of it having had major investment put into it even before it did the kickstarter.
But yeah not really trying to convince to back this I'm not backing this one either, just Project Phoenix was a much more uncertain thing from the outside based on how the kickstarter was structured.

I don't really care, just make it something Suikoden related, because honestly, that's the only really appropriate thing.

Gotta use Pooby heart until 2022/Eiyuden's release

Yeah you add the amount listed for the add-ons and when the campaign is over you can select which ones you'd like.

lol the newest update:

"Western-Style Box Art

Some fans of Murayama-san and Kawano-san's previous work might remember some particularly...unusual Western box art that saw the light of day in the West. We're happy to announce that after finally unlocking the last tier of the Painter's Gallery in the social game, Kawano-san will be creating alternate "Bad Western Cover Art" that will ship with every physical copy of the game...whether you like it or not! But as they say: "Beauty is in the eye of the backer"."

god this is great. I wish I could buy it as an add-on.

I legit can't believe how right they got it. This is my favorite black character design in a video game. It's just so good.

in preparation for this, which Suikoden is considered to be the "definite" one? I never played them and want to try one.

That's tough because 3 is definitely my favorite but yeah, I think 2 is probably the definitive "Suikoden" experience.

Side note, I'd like to keep my copy of Suikoden V (and don't have the case to properly sell it anyway) but if any Suikoden fans here haven't had the chance to play it because of rarity/price I'm willing to loan it out if you pay the shipping to and from. Just lemme know.

I recommend 1 and 2 to TBH, both games are relatively short, comparable length to a single typical 40 Hour long RPG, Also a lot of character introductions and back story for folks in S1 who are returning cast in the 2nd game.

Anyways, Iga Interview for Eiyuden in the latest update.

2... which is also my favourite JRPG ever.
But I'd recommend to play the first one before as it's really short and you might like 2 even more after that because they're only a few years apart.

The last 24 hours is definitely generally the best stretch for Kickstarter projects outside of the first few days so I expect a strong close and I think there's a chance we get to those 4.25 and 4.3 goals, though they're no sure thing. That said, this is not being helped by the fact that the gaming media has seemingly been incredibly quiet on this campaign. Major sites more or less ignored it, or gave it a brief mention when it started but never followed up. I know there's a lot of Kickstarter burnout, but this is the most successful gaming Kickstarter in years, you would think that would be news...

All that said, things seem to be picking up. Its gone up like 7000 in the last 15 minutes, so that's pretty good.

We ran a couple of articles on it, doing our "little best" to make folks aware of something rad. Unfortunately, the site's had some major technical issues lately, so outside of social media posts we haven't been able to grab a loudspeaker.

I totally agree with you; the major sites really haven't given Eiyuden its due.

I feel like the novel stretch goal is killing momentum. 400k between the 110th character and the next in game benefit is a pretty big gap.

What is the novel anyway? Like an actual written novel? Will it be an ebook only or will there be a print version?
ive been avoiding reading the updates because i want most everything to be 100% fresh when i play the game.

I've seen various languages in the stretch goals list, but will it be in Spanish?, because I can't see it anywhere

It's weird because it's all set to enter the top 4, maybe top 3 and I feel like I saw articles when it started and then basically. Nothing else. Did Bloodstained get this little press?

Speaking anecdotally, I think Bloodstained got more exposure during its Kickstarter phase, yeah. I suppose we'll see how much the media ramps up coverage for this one while it's in development!

Bloodstained happened the same year Kojima left Konami so there was a lot of anti-Konami sentiment not to mention heavy demand for console Castlevania that really helped push it. It was the perfect storm of everything that had positive results for the funding campaign.

There was also an English PR team with Fangamer and Ben Judd.

5 years later and a lot of folks pretty much in a Meh about the Konami IP's at this point. So Eiyuden isn't getting much boost in that regard. Also Suikoden was relatively niche, especially compared to Castlevania at least.

I believe it's a digital novel, so expect an ebook or pdf of some kind. It's hard to hate on it too much because it sounds like it'll be done well, but I'm not kickstarting this project to get a book at the end.
