The more I think about it the more I believe the following for season 4, a wild guess:

With all the deaths and bad news coming out of the town it causes the place to decline badly, people and businesses both flee with the population being drastically reduced. In the final battle the town basically ends up Sunny Valed. That's a Buffy reference. Think big ass crater where the town was.

My issue with the scene was where it fell in the episode. It completely broke all the tension going into that moment.

I guess its a personal thing as I didn't feel it affected the tension at all. Constant tension for me is far worse so giving some breather moments and one as powerful as that was more than fine considering how crazy most of that episode was.

I can get that actually, but for me it was a little breather after a very tense episode. It's placement is probably why I found it so funny actually
same with the Russian door guard and Bald Eagle and just everything with Bald Eagle

Comic relief is fine, but it's got to flow with the narrative.
The singing went on for a long time, right in the middle of the confrontation with the MInd Flayer.

I didn't actually consider that moment comic relief so that might be part of it. There were some funny shots related to it but I took as far more heartfelt and sincere.

The
duet
scene was just cheese and not even good cheeese where it happened. It's a combination of hey 80s throwback look at meee + trying to be cute when
non of the adults who literally are in life and death situation would stand around and listen to the whole song without saying anything.
It really stretches the believability and - you know that short time that it took is actually why
the terminator guy caught up to hopper and why he died (if you believed he's dead)

So in reality
duncan and his girlfriend killed hopper

People keep saying this but you could point to any number of things as "causing that." For example,

Had they just gone straight into the lab instead of spending five minutes saying goodbye to each other in the food court, the Russian wouldn't have caught them either. There's multiple different things they could have done differently. Hopper could have found another way to kill the guy besides throwing him into the machine and making it malfunction. Could have, would have, should have.

I feel like it did.
the gang had escaped and were pulling the Mind Flayer away, so El and co could also escape, it added to the moment imo by tricking me into letting the guard down, before we transition over to Joyce, Hopper and Bald Eagles part, then bam, Billy sees them, monster turns back around, the tension is right back.

the catching up made sense because they haven't seen each other for most of the show.
standing around while you're literally in life and death danger listening to a duet
didnt. Anyhow, it does not make sense from a normal folk vs gun toting russian POV. Don't forget that
Hopper gunned down 4 russians when they entered the lab so the stakes are high and the adults knows it.

Just finished it.

I knew the Red Ranger would redeem himself in the end, that was anime as fuck.

Also Robin stole the show for me.

They can be as annoyed as they want but the reality is nobody but Suzie knew Planck's Constant so they were beholden to her wishes. They could either spend 90 seconds letting her sing or spend five minutes explaining what was going on.

If we want to blame someone, it's Bauman who claimed he knew what the number was and was wrong which was why they didn't bother to look it up before going to the mall.

I'm not really bothered by one more overt 80's reference in a show filled to the brim with them, especially this season. I figured Hopp of all people would realize that barging suddenly and angerly into a young sheltered girl's supposedly private conversation with her young love would probably only hinder their efforts which is why he's left staring annoyed in silence during the cut away. Its also not like the adults haven't been putting up with the kid's childish BS during life or death situations since season 1.

That was a lot of fun and I kind of loved it. Way better than season 2. Adored the heightened campiness. Steve remains MVP.

Also...

If I could get a dream plotline from the next season(s?) it would be that Dr. Brenner was alive this entire time but because of his dealing with the Upside Down has been transformed in some nebulous but sinister ways till he's a menacing walking nightmare of a person much like the Tall Man (Angus Scrim) from the Phantasm films. It would fit fairly well with the whole corruption from the Upside Down, maybe even as a human avatar of the Mind Flayer who haunts the kids even as the grow up, go their separate ways and time marches on leading to an epic climax after much spooky, creepy even world ending shit. Basically make season 4 or 5 inspired heavily by The Phantasm films. I'm even cool with flying silver cubes full of all kinds of horrible weapons and scary zombie dwarfs from other dimensions.

Brenner as an avatar of the Mind Flayer is something I've been assuming they would do for a long time now. I definitely want them to keep increasing the scale of events until eventually the whole world is threatened.

Literally everyone would watch a spinoff series about Steve and Robin helping each other pick up chicks

Get to it Netflix

I would watch that.

I don't think he's dead either, probably in the Upside Down.

Just finished it, I think it's a really solid season. Not quite amazing, but way better than the weak season 2.
I appreciated how they managed to split up the storylines and made them all compelling. My fave was, of course, Steve/Dustin/Robin/Erica, they were brilliant together, even though the secret Soviet base in the middle of the USA made 0 sense.
The rest was fun as well. I do think it's a good idea to finish things up once and for all soon, because the story is getting a bit repetitive already. But I'm sure there is room for one great final season.

loved this season. amazing all around. looking forward to what comes next. Scoops team was awesome, Steve was amazing, as always, and Billy had some great scenes this season too.

particularly when the mind flayer was speaking to 11 through him in that psychic space. that whole sequence was incredible

also liked how
11 is unable to use her powers in the final battle. really let the whole team shine. she was straight carrying before that lol. I love 11, she's a badass, but damn she is OP lol. She's definitely gonna get her powers back though and I am there for that.

i don't get though why

people think Hop is alive. People are saying it's suspicious that there was no body, but we saw all those people in hazmat suits disintegrate. I assume the same thing happened to Hop. Why would they show a body after just showing people disintegrate? Not saying he couldn't be alive, but it's unlikely imo.

Just finished binge-watching Season 3.

Loved every second of it. The humor is strong. The horror is better than ever.

You guys losing your shit to Robin being the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke but I'm mind blown after realizing Billy was the Red Ranger from the Power Rangers movie lol. Couldn't recognize him with that mullet and the pornstache!

One thing I was kind of hoping for that never happened was a full on zombie outbreak style moment with The Flayed. Felt like it was going there after El and Billy's "talk". Was hoping it would involve more of the town as well. Seemed like it was only 30 people and I was hoping for hundreds.

I would have been down with this. It would have broken the thing of back to back finale boss fights and allowed for a good set up of a final season

Does anyone know if the score that played in the final trailer and when
Billy/The Mind Flayer confronts El in the vision
is available anywhere on the officially released score? I can't seem to find it.

Edit: Now that I think about it, I'm not convinced it's an original piece. Might look into finding the source.

I finished it last night and generally really enjoyed it but did have some problems with it in regards to how some things turned out.

Although it was pretty emotional learning Billy's background I did feel like they stretched his character for too many episodes. Instead of right at the end I would have preferred that he was conflicted the whole time while gathering flayers and ultimately when the mind flayer was complete that was when he did his sacrifice to further show that as badly as he treats his sister, deep down he loves her. I just didn't get why the rest was absorbed and he wasn't and for some reason was tracking them down and hanging out in his car outside the mall. Also he didn't even try to flay his sister? Maybe it's a nitpick but when I noticed it I just couldn't stop thinking of it. I was also not a fan of how in the last episode they were at the mall then they leave then they go back just seemingly for plot convenience sake
