Stellan Skarsgard has joined the growing cast of Dune, Legendary's adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel being directed by Denis Villeneuve.

Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson and Dave Bautista are already on the call sheet for the big-budget feature that is headed toward a spring start and will shoot in Budapest and Jordan.

Dune, considered a sci-fi literary classic, tells the complex story of a fallen noble family's attempt to control a desert planet named Arrakis and its export, a rare spice drug, while being betrayed by a galactic emperor.

Chalamet is playing Paul Atreides, the son of the ruler of the family, who is forced to escape into the desert wastelands and partner with its nomadic tribes. Using enhanced mental abilities, he eventually rises to become their ruler, with the nomads believing he is their messiah, and leads an army to overthrow the empire.

Skarsgard will play one of the villains of the piece, Baron Harkonnen, whose family previously ruled Arrakis and has a long hatred of the Atreides family, plotting with the galactic emperor to destroy it. He is also the uncle to the brutish character to be played by Bautista.

Great choice. I wonder if he'll either gain weight or wear a fat suit.

I like Skarsgard as a villian. Not hot on Chalamet as Atreides but I've only seen him in Lady Bird being a dick.

Curious how how they depict him considering the difference in appearance of the actor and character.

I can dig this, and if they need to they can just fat suit Stellan up a bit.

Makeup and special effects can do a lot.

The most important part is an actor who can nail the character portrayal and deliver an outstanding performance.

And the Baron and Paul are 2 of the most important ones.

Hell yes!

This project must be seriously moving along. That's the second major casting announcement this week.

He's a little ermmm ... slim for Baron Harkonnen. Very uninspired casting decision, in my opinion.

And Stellar Skateboard doesn't even have to look like a real historical figure.

Pretty good choice. Get the other skarsgard - Alexander - to play pretty boy Feyd.

I guess he'll be playing a more savage, intelligent, and active version of the Baron. A younger self perhaps?

I think Timothée Chalamet works as Paul Atreides. He's a great actor, is charismatic and has the "look".

Not sure I can think of many other current actors who would be right for the part.

The fact that this exists is enough to get me hyped.

The genius casting decisions take it to the next level.

Did they use CGI to fatten him up in Mama Mia or was that prosthetics?

It would be neat to get his son to play Feyd.

Holy shit. That's Thor's friend to be the Baron Hakkonen. I can't wait to see the final looks for all the characters. Hopefully they'll show us some images of their costumes or such before or while filming. Probably not.

Don't like this choice really. Harkonnen is supposed to be bombastic and unreserved.

Killer casting right here, and excited to see what Denis can get out of him. The casting just continues to deliver on this.
Now to wait to see who is playing Duke Leto.

Ha, I misread and guessed it was about his son playing Feyd.
I trust their casting so far, Batista as Raban is great. Looking forward to seeing who is playing my favorite Piter de vries. Brad Dourif was amazing in that role.
