The Knife shit is so horrible

Like what the fuck were they thinking
It doesn't make any sense timeline wise either. It had been under that burning man festival since before the end of the last war/death star 2 blowing up. Yet the dagger fit perfectly with the wreckage of the DS pointing to what I guess was the throne room? So did one of Sheev's little clone growing goons go out and plant the thing? For what purpose??

I wasn't so sour on the film after I got out of the theater, but the more I think about it the less sense any of it makes.

Anything below an A- for a major blockbuster movie is bad.
It's the lowest score in the franchise
Because regular audiences are idiots that always score shit 10/10

when any movie gets below A in cinema score it's pretty bad news for audience reactions. PREQUELS WERE A-.
yes. They poll random people after they leave the screening. Anyways, this is the same score as Justice League if you want a reference point.
Yikes. Uhhh well it makes sense. It was fucking stupid and contrived.

Thanks to all of you.

I don't even hate TLJ but it's hard for anyone to not think that the Leia scene was stupid lol.

I loved TLJ and I thought the *idea* of that scene was fine, but the execution was obviously cheesy.

I saw Skywalker last night. The first 40 minutes was some of the worst cinema I have ever seen in my entire life; it jumped from scene to scene with 0 emotional investment and for what? I feel like most of that could of been cut.

We went back to the nostalgia well with
Lando
too which just seemed really lame (and his acting was atrocious).

Really disappointed. The final 30 mins were pretty cool I guess, I also thought Daisy Ridley did her best with the terrible script. I disliked the movie more than any prequel because it shat on everything I liked about the previous two. Also, that knife shit is way worse than any complaint people had about the Casino jaunt in the 2nd movie - at least that was fun, this just seemed like a fetch quest in a really shitty RPG.

Also for a movie that was like 2 hours and half, has so little character development outside of Rey and, maybe, Kylo (and basically his development was 'oh mmommy you died... So Sorry I will be good now)

this being JJ, I almost expected that when Rey said she was a Skywalker the woman she was with responded with a "just like a son I had!" Thats how pandering I found this movie

Why is it bad? I don't understand Cinemascore.

Action and blockbuster franchise films almost ALWAYS score an A on Cinemascore. Its very easy to satisfy casual audiences with action setpieces so that they love the film even if the plot and dialogue is crap.

For a huge event film like Star Wars to get a B+ means that there were serious flaws there that the whiz bang effects and action could not distract some audience members froms.

For reference, this film got a B cinemascore.

Ironic even
I think I would get whiplash just listing all the scenes that keep switching ideas/tone. Not even all of them are bad but the fact that there are so many make the movie as a whole pretty awful

besides the c3PO thing that was already mentioned you've got

- Rey killing Chewie, oh wait nah she didn't kill Chewie lol
- Hux is the spy and then immediately just gets blasted
- Kajimi blowing up but Zori/Babu surviving
- Lando saying he's done fighting and then he shows up at the base
- Kylo saying "actually you're palpy's granddaughter" and just everything to do with that
- Rey exiling herself and then reversing that within a minute because Luke talked to her and fixed his ship with space magic
- The communication radar not being necessary for the ships to get out of orbit, oh wait no they can just follow a ship with a signal (wait how does that ship get out of orbit if the other signal is down)
- Kylo getting yeeted off a cliff and coming back
- Rey dying and then coming back
- Rey killing Kylo and then healing him so he can come back
- The wayfinder being destroyed and then Rey just using Kylo's ship which conveniently still has one despite his old ship GOING UP IN FLAMES
- Lando apparently not being with the rebellion anymore just so he can ME3/Endgame everyone else in the universe there as a cheap surprise
- Palpy lighting up the entire rebellion fleet but not causing anyone to actually die or suffer any consequences from it at all besides some extras getting lit on fire
- Finn sacrificing himself to blow up the ship and then being saved
- Snoke actually being a clone that Palpy created

I'm sure I'm missing more. Again, individually some of these aren't bad at all but.... yeah

it was definitely just action set piece to action set piece.

Pace was so high that all character development had to take place in the middle of action sequences. Definitely a...different way to approach Star Wars.

Yeah Luke being: "A jedi never throws off his saber" and "I was wrong" are such baaad writing, because the audience knows he is talking to them, not talking as a character. It´s sort of Luke saying that he is sorry. Also a very coward tactic by the writers. Just plain bad.

And is a very bad reading of what Rian was attempting with Luke's arc in TLJ.

There's probably a Sith magnet inside the throne itself. Going to be explained in the Dingo Jarr show or whatever his name was.

God this movie was dumb. The pacing in the beginning was absurd like they had to cram an hour's worth of story in eight minutes, everyone seems to teleport everywhere, it all happens in a 16 hour time span, whatever.

*one movie later*

"I never lied to you, I CHOOSE TO be your father by being the one to make you join the dark side family"

Also the lightsaber coreography and battle scenes were soooo bad. The one against dark Rey and Rey x Kylo. In a world were even TV series are knocking it out of the park... like... c´mon, guys. There are so many good opportunities when it comes to lightsaber battles to make it amazing, more close and personal. Just get that director from Game of Thrones (Miguel something) to direct the battle scenes next time. They felt so uninspired in that movie.

Battle of the Bastards episode was just on HBO Canada, and now another episode directed by him :)

I really liked it! Like a lot. The story, characters, music. All really great.

But it's definitely crushed by the weight of the trilogy's non-planning. It's just the convergence of not-planning. The entire first half hour of this film could have easily been woven into TLJ (Kylo breaking free of Snoke but then being lured with a Wayfinder and manipulated by another with more power who was connected to Vader, so he takes out Snoke, etc). If 8 and 9 had worked together, it would have worked out.

But it still succeeded for me with all the pieces, and I loved TLJ and ROS. It just really needed to be preplanned to pull it all together.

My two cents. I'm easy to please! I enjoyed everyone movie in this trilogy!

But slave kid Anakin built him....

I guess when you buy the hard drive from the store it comes with that rule on it? lol
Yup. Anakin built his own computer, but he had to get Windows from somewhere.

Scratch that- yeah grand daughter. Slightly less disgusting.

Interesting. I missed that line.
Remember: she's his granddaughter, and I think Palpatine had a son. So it's more like 25 + what, 30? Doesn't that put it more in line with the prequels?

Edit: just saw you caught that already.

Oh I forgot the "I'll get Luke's saber when I deserve it" (honestly it's pretty clear she deserves it after TFA and TLJ but I digress) and then her taking it with her maybe 2 minutes after that line

The first hour or so was definitely one of the more egregious examples of break-neck pacing in a movie I've seen in a while. Absolutely nothing gets room to breathe, it's almost like they know this shit is dumb and are just rushing you through it so you don't think about it.

The dagger stuff was awful. Like just a really elaborate Goonies reference.

Speaking of references- I hated the Chewie medal thing at the end. Yeah it was totally wrong he didn't get a medal at the end of ANH. But the Medal thing in TROS was almost a fourth wall breakingl moment of speaking to the audience. Just made it really feel like Abrams and Terrio browsed Reddit and Tumblr looking for inspiration while writing the script.

Just got back. Yup. I hate it. Thanks JaJabrems.

JJ finally united the fans in creating a movie we can all hate the same. I loved TFA, thought TLJ was a near masterpiece, but this was ... awful.

When Palpatine raised an army of fucking fully manned star destroyers with death star canons I knew we were in coocoobananaland. What the fuck JJ, you have to always have death stars dont you , you unoriginal hack.

Maybe some day I'll ironically watch it and laugh.

Thoughts on parentage... while it's still more of a theory (and fear of Anakin's), if indeed Palpatine did have anything to do with Anakin's virgin birth, then that does make Rey a Skywalker in more than just the adoption sense. There would be an actual lineage that connects her to Anakin/Luke/Leia... well, and also Ben. But it's not like they would have been siblings... more like second cousins in a way.

They literally responded to what's at best a meme, one that absolutely didn't need to be responded to.

Supposedly there was supposed to be a Luke resurrection side plot

That would have gone against TLJ too, surprised JJ didn't go there lol

I still want to like this movie... at least I can like Babu Frik and D-0.

Despite the plot kinda sucking, the worst thing about it is the pacing. It just goes full speed and rarely if ever stops. Maybe that works in its favor tho, as the audience doesn't really have time to think about the plot before the next unrelated thing happens.

Let´s not forget Kerri Russel (I dont remember the character name) having an Empire Master key token that lets the owner land in every planet and also capital star destroyers! She must have paid a lot for that time skip DLC. Super safe for the empire to have them out there!

Another one: the Resistance using the new droid to reach Sithtown, but wait, Rey is showing them how to navigate there regardless.

"You will take both sabers to Exogol"

what a weird fucking line to throw in from Luke.. like, why? I get it because of the payoff with Kylo, but.. what reason should she have taken both? Why would luke suggest it? it felt so out of place without any followup question from Rey or context as to why he's making her take both.

It's what happens when you attempt to squeeze 2 movies into one while trying to erase the one you didn't write.

Willing to bet JJ's draft of 8 ended with Kylo finding out he was played by Palpatine so he just placed a "Previously On Alias' at that start of Episode to recap what didn't hapoen in RJ's version of 8. 🤷🏾‍♂️
