Is it too early for |OT4|? I think we need to start over already.
Who's got some fresh Ben Swolo memes to get us back on the important stuff?
Who's got some fresh Ben Swolo memes to get us back on the important stuff?
Holy fucking shit, this thread gets worse and worse.
The Last Jedi has completely broken Star Wars fandom. Or maybe they were always broken and now they're just saying how they really feel.
The Yuuzhan Vong plotline was one of the worst old cannon EU plotlines though.it's almost painful to think about how epic Abrams + Rian's version of something like the Yuuzhan Vong wars would have been...AHH

Here's the thing: if you're trying to make some kind of "legitimate argument," and you suddenly realize that like 90% of the people fervently agreeing with you are massive bigots, it's time to take a step back, ask yourself how you got here, and whether or not it's really so important to keep up the good fight against the Ghostbusters reboot or ethics in game journalism or a fictional movie character while also providing cover fire for the worst elements of humanity. If you decide the issue truly is that important, then by all means, continue to die on that hill, but know what others are thinking of you while you do it.
I feel like Rose and Finn's role in the movie could have been cut completely, and it would have been pretty much the same movie.
At the same time, Rose is just so cute. I enjoyed every minute of the movie she was in.
The part where she was excited when she thought Finn was some brave hero and definitely not trying to run away as far away as possible was adorable.
Rose is my favorite character in the movie, and she doesn't even affect much of any change. Or Finn, for that matter.
Rewatched the film and everything not having to do with the jedi and the sith was really bad with the exception of Oscar Isaac and Benicio del Toro but i may be extremely biased to latino men so i don't think that is me being """objective""".
Thatsbait.gifthe more i think about it, Rose is the Jar Jar binks of this new trilogy, what comical character
I don't think they really care about continuity or story arcs or any of that. Rian very knowingly cut off some really interesting threads from 7 like the knights, Luke seeking the Jedi temple for answers (if he really just wanted to be left alone to die, he would have chosen Tattooine or Degobah). Ben's whole internal conflict, resolved without conflict. Snoke having a reason for being a character in this show, Rey's force flashback with obiwans voice, Rey's whole motive being her family. Just burn it all down and do ep4 and the first 3rd of ep5 again. That'll teach those fans a lesson to prop up a franchise with lifelong devotion and billions of dollars. Stupid fans. You're going to eat this and you're going to like it and your Snoke theory sucks! Lol you guys look so stupid! Bahagahaha you didn't see any of this coming! We turned Luke into a heartless coward! Bwahahaha you had no idea did you! Ok now what's 9 going to be about? Who cares that's someone else's problem. We just poop in the punch bowl. We don't drink it.
Yeah I don't really get it, the movies were hugely popular. It's funny that Star Wars has become shorthand for geek culture. The original was like the biggest film ever at the time. TFA wasn't far behind that two years ago.

But TLJ took the whole thing into uncharted territory. We have no idea how Epi IX will end. We know there are things from TLJ for IX to build upon but they can go into some very non-OT directions with it, even if it's still rebels vs. space nazis. It doesn't have to be a repeat of Epi VI where the Empire, or the First Order in sequel trilogy's case, is (presumably) neatly defeated and the main villain redeems himself in some sacrificial act near the end.the more I dwell on this movie and force awakens the more disappointed I get in Abrams and Johnson for bringing us back to the Rebels v. Empire plotline for Episode 9. JJ started it but Johnson could've broken that chain. he didn't.
so much untapped potential and so many new directions they could have gone...why the most boring one that basically makes all of the OT pointless
why why WHY?!?!?! why couldn't we just get an old republic movie if they didn't want to be more creative??? I don't fucking understand why they chose the most boring possible plot outline

Indeed. It's funny that Star Wars has become shorthand for geek culture. The original was like the biggest film ever at the time. TFA wasn't far behind that two years ago.
None of those are legitimate complaints, but you people just keep ignoring completely legitimate & logical explanations that are in the movie & people keep pointing out just so you can keep your heads up your asses for whatever reason. All legitimate complains, but you're not gonna get through to anyone, sadly, the trenches are now really deep.
There is definitely an element of nerd rage at play at the role of females in these star wars movies. But let's think about it for a sec.
The force awakens arguably showed the female lead character in a better light, she made smaller mistakes, had less difficulties to overcome, displayed her strong piloting skills and beat an experienced sith in a one to one lightsaber fight. That sparked all the Mary sue crap. But the difference is that it never took hold in terms of a huge disparity between critics and fans and even the box office reflected it too. No one gave a shit about the mary sue crap. But this movie, because of it's serious and blatant flaws, is weak enough for these things to take hold.
SW is undeniably the franchise that is the most political right now, and because of Rian's shortcomings, the movie simply isn't able to ward off these things as they are lumped in with valid criticisms.

Yo who has done thisHave you even followed the conversation at all? Since my original post have you followed alll the replies, and my counter arguments? Cause it really sounds like you haven't. And if you haven't your just wasting my time putting in your two cents on a conversation you don't know anything about. Where are these 90% of people who agree with me that are bigots? Only like 2 people kind of agreed with me and they were Asian putting in their 2 cents on the issue of "Asians should know what other Asians are". Are those the biggots I'm supporting with my non racist statements?
And the only reason I'm replying is to defend myself, am I not allowed to explain my side of the story when people are calling me a racist? I should just take an L because people call me a racist? A Chinese guy being called racist against Chinese people,is what you are expecting me not to defend myself from? In any case, you whole spiel about the ghostbusters reboot and game journalism seems to veer in a direction that has nothing to do with me or my conversation with others in this thread. I get the point you are trying to make, but I'm not the guy you should be making that point against. I'm not racist!
is there really that much uncharted territory left for IX?
I feel like all we have left is Rey v Kylo. Or at least I think that's all most people really care about at this point. That's all I really care about.
Finn has been relegated to side plot status and honestly seems like massively wasted potential at this point to me. Him and Poe will be the main rebel characters besides Rey, but any interest I have in what they end up doing just seems minimized by how lame another rebels v empire movie is
Leia will be MIA because RIP carrie. Luke and Han are dead.
This is Disney. They're not gonna let the First Order win or end on some mega grim shit. We know the Rebels will win somehow someway. So meh.
Also, not sure if this was posted but Rian Johnson's Instagram is now being brigaded and he had to close down comments for his posts.
This movie doesn't have serious and blatant flaws. That's not to say it doesn't have any flaws but it's no more flawed than something like Empire Strikes Back. If it had such huge gaping holes, movie critics wouldn't be so positive about it. They'd rip it apart like Transformers movies or Batman v Superman. There is definitely an element of nerd rage at play at the role of females in these star wars movies. But let's think about it for a sec.

It's really disgusting what anominity causes people to devolve in to.Sigh
Reminds me of the Jake
No kid should get that level of hate mail
Wait, really?Don't forget we know there will be 10, 11 and 12 after this trilogy. Unlike the OT and PT where we had no idea when or if there would even be a new SW series.
That's the weird thing for me and I went through the prequels yet THIS is the one that breaks the fandom:
Pretty sure the next trilogy wont involve Rey etc, at least not as the primary protagonists.Wait, really?
The fuck?
I thought IX was the end? I thought that was the point of giving Rian a new unrelated trilogy.

The one a year thing I have no problem with, but I presumed (and I guess hoped) they'd drop the numbered ones with 9.They want to keep doing one movie every year and maybe eventually even more than that, like Marvel does. They'll have room for two trilogies at the same time, and the mainline entries have to follow chronological order.

I agree, I hate how they wasted Finn in this series. The dude has massive potential, it annoyed how they did a bait and switch with Rey in terms of force sensitivity.is there really that much uncharted territory left for IX?

The cool thing of having these really long gaps between the trilogies made sense. If X is like 2021? That's really lame to me.
Either you have to walk away from Rey and Ren, which is lame for the next entry in 'The Skywalker Saga', as Kennedy calls them, or you're picking it back up way too soon.
If someone wanted to bring them back in twenty/thirty years, that could be cool, but soon? I don't like that at all.
About 4 or 5 people either outright said I was a racist or implied it in their posts. But if no one is, maybe they should stop attacking me, like you.
I think I agree with BetterOffEd on this one.
Furthermore, why did Holdo wait until like half the escape vessels had been blown up before trying the maneuver?
I would have to assume that Po and every other pilot knows about the maneuver, obvious as it is, so why didn't he suggest using it to wreck the ship with the tracker, after which the other ships could jump to safety?
If the FO has a surplus of ships and lots of fanatically devoted soldiers, how come they never did that to finish off the Resistance?
Most importantly, why hasn't this been used in the previous movies?
Trying to think of explanations to patch up this plot hole makes me feel like BB8 trying to plug up all the breaks in Po's weapons system at the beginning, haha. I probably could if I stretched my suspension of disbelief to the breaking point and was as generous as possible with my assumptions about how the universe works, but why should I need to? I wouldn't have to do that if they'd just done the scene a bit differently in a way that was more consistent with how the franchise has worked thus far. Instead I feel like Rian just had this idea for a really cool-looking scene, and hoped people wouldn't think too hard about it.
It just seems so disingenuous to the story to me.They're not going to wait 20 years. Maybe 4 years at most. The mainline entries make too much money and they're going to want to get Mark Hamill in as a force ghost as much as possible while he's alive.
Dude just let it go, otherwise this thread will be filled with nothing but just back and forth between you and the others. Not to mention it brings down the mood of the thread something quite fierce.
It just seems so disingenuous to the story to me.
The entire point of this film is that Luke's done. There's a new Jedi now. Kill the past. He was a spark for the next generation of the Resistance, but Rey is all the Luke we need.
Kennedy says Rian's films aren't numbered because they're not part of 'The Skywalker Saga'. There's one Skywalker, well, there's a Solo within the bloodline.
It feels like it's meant to end in two years.
I'm not saying Hamill won't be in IX, I imagine he will, but I don't know, I don't see him as a Force ghost as some huge box office draw.
This is all true, but they're making a Han Solo movie no one asked for. They're going to mine the fuck out of the past as long as they can while simultaneously making overtures to a new future with characters like Rey and Kylo Ren. We're not going to really be done with the past until we're all middle aged.
Well, I guess my reaction was just at what X, XI, XII are. This is all true, but they're making a Han Solo movie no one asked for.
