It's not like Luke's mindset wasn't spelled out in TFA.

"Luke was training a new generation of Jedi. One boy, an apprentice, turned against him and destroyed it all. Luke felt responsible...he just...walked away from everything" - Han

They could not have made it clearer that Luke had lost hope in himself. Anyone expecting Luke to be an unblemished saviour figure was not paying attention.

How was Yoda more of a badass in ESB than Luke was in TLJ?

Luke's crait moment was as much of a wow moment as Yoda and the X-Wing.
I feel exactly the same way, I don't know how you can be in awe of what Yoda did in ESB and dismiss what Luke did in TLJ

He showed up to the fight and showed you don't actually have to fight to win

Unless his master plan was force projecting his dead bisected body with his tongue hanging out of his mouth for Hux and whoever else to see, I'm pretty sure Snoke is dead.

Hey man, they built him up to be linchpin of the entire universe post RoTJ only to kill him ridiculously in TLJ. Anything is possible. He might have been having one big laugh as he blatantly telegraphed his own demise.

Lmao, yeah not exactly bud. Maybe if Yoda had told Luke to get lost when he arrived looking for help they would be the same.

That's... exactly what he did. "He is TOO OLD! To begin the training!"

"Too much like his father!"

Lucas has stated and recent novels have confirmed that Yoda taught Leia would've been a better apprentice, since she didn't grow up like Anakin or Luke on Tatooine and too obsessed with "greatness".

I still dont understand, how did using astral projection kill luke?
Did he die of old age very coincidentally? Did he have a heart attack because of the stress?
What was the point of his "gotcha kylo" moment when he just ends up dying anyways? Regardless he becomes a force ghost.
I guess it would have been hard to get to Kratt but we know he had an X-Wing.

I've now seen TLJ twice. I won't know for sure where it lands in my ranking until a year has passed and I can view the film without any recency bias, but here's what I've got:

1. A New Hope
2. The Empire Strikes Back
--
3. The Force Awakens
4. The Last Jedi
5. Return of the Jedi
--
6. Rogue One
7. Revenge of the Sith
--
--
--
8. The Phantom Menace
9. Attack of the Clones

they could have accomplished this without turning it into a gag

he could have held it, looked at it, and said this isn't me anymore, or just dropped it or something

i dont think i'll ever be ok with how they handled it

I loved nearly everything involving Luke in this film, but this moment is the only thing that bugs me.

I agree it would have been much more powerful for me if he just dropped it.

Especially the first time I watched and just having watched TFA prior, going from Jedi steps to that moment was pretty jarring.

We're on OT3 now?

Good. I can reiterate the following statement:

The Last Jedi is amazing. It is the best since Empire and, for me personally, might just top it due to the bold choices and beautiful visuals of the second half. Snoke, the "mystery" of Rey's parents and the story of Luke Skywalker were all handled brilliantly.

Bring on Rian's trilogy.

It was draining to perform the projection. Early in the movie when Kylo and Rey first "connect", Kylo says "you can't be doing this, the effort would kill you". Luke's projection was a thousand times more intense than the telepathic connection between those two.

It's not clear that's what killed him.

Alhought Kylo hints earlier during his first Force Time with Rey that he knows about the technique or theory behind the move, because he tells her it would be a potentially lethal thing for her to actually be there with him like that. "You're not doing this...No, that would kill you"

Yoda was classist and wanted a rich apprentice.
Just trying to get paid.

He's right on both accounts ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Agreed! But I felt we needed more info about snoke. Just 20 seconds! Like cut 20 seconds from the casino and just give us die hard fans a few lines. Like... He seized power after the Empire fell with help from allies in the unknown regions, seeking to become a new Palpatine. Instead we got... nothing. There are tons of details in the movie. His ring, the navigators, the view port, sith figures, etc. Oh well, I guess that's what books are for.

Lol, yeah, basically. Yoda thought that Leia would've been much more educated already and having grown up loved and without want, she wouldn't have had an obsession with being famous. And he knew Bail was a pacifist and would teach Leia that.

"Great warrior hu? Hmmm, wars do not make one great!"

I agree with this.

Yoda doesn't teach Luke because Luke is not really displaying the qualities he believes a student should have. Luke doesn't even interact with Rey, he just tells her to get lost.

"You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting."

Yoda's lil' goofy ass would have never trained Luke if it weren't for Obi-Wan convincing him. The same way Luke finally changed his mind when Yoda convinced him.

Aren't the middle movies of trilogies supposed to leave the viewer with compelling questions that need to be answered in the final film?

Or was removing them what is passing for subverting my expectations these days?

Who said so?

And this movie left us with Kylo being the leader, Rey being the last Jedi and the Resistance having the galaxy on their side again. We got some meaty hooks for IX, why exactly do they have to be mysteries?

You really think they'd waste a character with so much potential like that? I think hologram Snoke isn't throne room Snoke at all. It's all a ruse.
That's some EU type stuff, man.

Snoke died to make Kylo Ren, the actual interesating villain, the center point of the conflict. Now going into IX Rey and Kylo have a rich relationship and she has to go up against him and not Snoke.

This. I wonder how many people actually listen to wht is said in the movie.

not necessarily. The Two Towers I thought did something similar and it worked in their favor.

he's dead. There's not much else to say. He's for sure for sure dead
