Pretty cool teaser. I haven't seen any of Picard and only a single 1st episode of Discovery. It's not that I don't want to watch, it's just I don't watch much scripted TV at all anymore. Mostly play games and when I do watch something it's non-fiction YouTube stuff.

Season 1 was kinda a disaster besides the first couple episodes and the Riker one, but Q makes this a must watch for me.

guess that explains why
The episode where that time lord sends Georgio back in time wasn't Q. seemed like a missed opportunity, guess they were saving him for this.

The Guardian of Forever was a better fit for Discovery as the show has it's roots in TOS. Plus no one had anything with the Guardian since the 70s, so it was good that it finally got some love.

Why would they
use Q when such a classic callback worked out so well? I mean, the episode with the Guardian of Forever is nearly always one of the top OG Star Trek episodes, every time a list is made up.

I was pretty disappointed in S1. I liked most of the new characters, but the overall story was pretty bad. The only redeeming part of the narrative was the end, but it didn't make up for the terrible journey to get there.

As for Q....

Most Q episodes are bad. He's a great character when done well, but look at all his episodes. There's a few really, really good ones, but the rest aren't very good.

They only delayed the Reapers in the first season. Now that Picard has died and been brought back to life he has to get a crew together to investigate mysterious disappearances of human colonies in the outer rim planets.

It's worth mentioning that season 2 has a different showrunner. The guy who did the 12 Monkeys tv series which is amazing. So I think there is a lot of potential here for something great.

Oh God, Q & Guinan in this season!!!!! I hope we get that epic showdown we've all wanted after what was eluded to during their first TNG meeting in ten forward!

Sooo, time travel, Q, implication of something with the Stargazer, maybe saving that ship and saving Crusher's husband?

I still can't believe how they're going to get around the fact that Picard is ...

An old man robot. That's how Season 1 ends remember? Actual Picard is dead so they download his conciousness into a Data-style android that's has Picards memory and personality. An old man robot

Picard at 62 is a different person than Picard at 80. He's bound to change in that time

After the ending of season 1, it kinda makes sense that Q would insert himself back into Picard's life

Q is exciting but I haven't cared for the bits of the nu-Trek that I've seen and heard so I don't really trust the showrunners and writers with him.

Season 1 is not good.

Picard was not good.

Discovery is so-so.

New TV Trek has been bad(ish) with some bright spots.

The Orville is better TV Trek than actual Star Trek.

Sad Face Emoji now.

😢

Season 1 is decent but held back by some bizarre writing choices.

Discovery is pretty good in general.

New TV Trek has been good(sh) with some bad spots.

The Orville is also worth watching.

Happy Face Emoji now.

😂

Sorry -- I know opinions are opinions and all. I'll lay off now. But I wanna chime in my own thoughts as well since typically it's the folks who dislike a thing that (understandably) tend to chime in first.

The first episode and the Riker episode were legit good. The last episode was almost bad enough to loop around to being funny but not quite.

It was hilarious though how directly they were ripping stuff from Mass Effect considering Mass Effect ripped a bunch of stuff from Star Trek.

While it wasn't perfect, I really liked what Season 1 aspired to be, confronting the ideals of what Star Fleet stood for with a cold reality where they abandoned those ideals, out of selfishness, cowardice and ultimately a form of tribalism. This betrayal rang quite true for me, since it reflected what we have been seeing in the West over the last years, with populism leading to often disastrous decisions, like Trumps election, Brexit, and countless smaller examples in the rest of the world.

There were definitely issues, and things I didn't like about it. Most of these issues are about execution. Writing that wasn't good enough, acting that wasn't directed well enough. But the one thing I wanted Trek to do after Next Generation and DS9, was to move the story forward, and try to stay relevant to today. Star Trek is at its best when its fiction tries to hold a mirror against our current world. That was always a strong theme, from the Cold War inspiring the conflict between Star Fleet and Klingons, to trying to tackle issues of racism and generally arguing for a humanist ideal of humanity might become.
ST: Picard turns this on its head, it argues that we have failed to live up to that ideal. It tries to show how one man alone is fighting for that ideal, when almost everyone else has forgotten it. It's a darker story, but I do believe ST: Picards -- at its core -- is at least as hopeful as the best of Stark Trek ever was.

I am a bit weary about this second season. I liked the ending of Season 1, and I felt it would have worked pretty well for a final goodbye to the character of Picard. I hope they don't mess it up with this next season.

My problem with Season 1 of Picard is there is a much more intersting storyline in Picard than it's not Mass Effect 1 "The Reapers are coming" storyline.

There was an entire subplot about the deBorging people from the collective and reintroducing them to the world, on a scrapped Borg cube.

THAT should be have been the central conflict of Season 1, considering Locutus is still one of Picard's most traumatizing events.

Also Data wasn't THAT good a friend to Data. Data's best friend was Geordi and I'll fight people who say otherwise.

It probably won't happen, but I'd like to think the teaser means...

Q will snap his fingers and retcon out season 1.

Also it was just crazy how we had just had a 'advance synthetic life threatens the entire galaxy' conclusion in Disco Season 2. Following one up with another was just super lazy.

I think that Q saying "the trial never ends", Picard in the trailer talking about second chances and Stewart (in the brief interview on Paramount's YouTube channel) talking about "all the new storylines, and situations, and times" that the season will cover suggests that it's maybe more than one scenario. Perhaps Q will end up showing Picard various major events of his life. Could even be the season's hook - I doubt that they'd go in that direction after the first season, but there were lots of fans saying that they'd be fine if the series had just been a nostalgia trip of Picard travelling the galaxy talking to old friends, and a Q-led historical parade would be one way of doing that.

I think the problem with Star Trek is the people in charge at Paramount.

They want Star Trek to be this big sweeping space-opera with lots of action akin to Star Wars....

But it's not..

It's grand speeches about diplomacy, inclusivity, tolerance... It's using your mind to outthink the the problem, not just assembling a bunch of people with phasers and starships to blow shit up.

I don't mind that, but not everything has to be the Battle of Wolf 359.

Very excited for this!

BTW, there were at least a couple DS9 Easter eggs:

- The Book "Paradise Lost." Paradise Lost was the title of a DS9 episode
- What appears to be the Reckoning Tablet was on Picard's desk (12 seconds into the teaser)

I want that picture of that Galaxy Class Enterprise that was hanging in his office.

I also want another Star Trek space game! Starfleet Academy and Battles were too long ago.

Star Trek Generations ... I wish they just lifted Picard's speech for the teaser. Underrated. Also ironic if all things are considered.

Generations is very underrated. I love that speech too, and Riker's response is just wonderful.

As for Q's return.. oh boy, that's got me nervous. All Good Things is such a perfect ending for a TV show that I worry going back to Q and Picard can only weaken that in some way. While I do hope for the best (and of course don't have to watch this if it's naff!) I'm not exactly basing that hope on anything.

Yeah, I'm in the group that thinks Picard S1 was really odd. I don't hate it, but it really made some weird choices with what they did with characters. Still, I'm happy to stick with it and see where it goes. I'm happy that Q and Guinan will be making a return this season.

Also, I just want to add that Discovery is a really great modern take on Trek. I really enjoyed the first three seasons, and I wouldn't mind if there's a potential crossover between the two coming up.

I really get the feeling Philippa is going to show up in the TNG/Picard timeline after show exits The Guardian's portal.

Season 1 was an unmitigated disaster. Truly one of the worst Trek-related things of all time in a franchise not exactly lacking for stinkers.

Will hatewatch.

season 1 ended with a magic imagination device saving the day so Q really isn't that impressive anymore

This was my problem with the show as well. I love Star Trek, I love the Picard character, and the title theme for Picard was excellent... but half the time Patrick Stewart seemed to be playing a completely different character, in a completely different universe.

It was really jarring watching it as I thought perhaps there was more to it like there were was some kind of story reason that would be revealed as the season went on. Nope, it was just a very uneven performance with some really off parts.

As someone who strongly defended the first few eps of season 1, I was incredibly disappointed with how the season played out. It went on to embody the worst traits of the Kurtzman/Abrams Trek verse while retaining few if any characteristics of what made Trek so good.

That said I'll still watch all of this season, but I may wait until they all drop so I can binge it.

"You know all that 90% of season one that was crap Jean Luc?
It was all just a dream.
I was simply having a bit of fun you see"
Q
It's going to be so weird if they now go all in on TNG plotlines like Q since it seemed Stewart wanted absolutely no part of that in season one. I fear this will be another Data plotline. You know the one we tease a minute here and there throughout the season but most of it is just generic tropey sci-fi cliches.
After watching that new interview with Stewart and de Lancie they refer to it as just an episode so sounds like it's likely just a one episode guest apperance and not the main overarching plot of the season.
