I mean, if this was the USA Federation, shoot to kill, then ask questions would certainly be the most viable solution to armed conflict situation for a trained officer.

But I do believe the United Federation of Planets has a more non-USA standard of shoot to incapacitate. So Saru was 100% in the right there.

And I just saw open spoilers. Can spoilers tags not be used for like the first day at least please. So those of us outside US don't click and do what I just did.

"Whereas The Burn is the best thing that ever happened to me" no-one talks like this. The burn was over a century ago. This guys great-grandfather might remember it. Modern day war profiteers and bandits don't say "World War I was the best thing that ever happened to me"

Unless the guy's 200 years old, yeah it was an awful line. Wonder how long people live 900 years in the future.

What's up with
Keyla? PTSD?
She got hit pretty hard on her implant, whatever it is, during the crash. Before that she seems totally fine (more composed than anyone except - maybe including - Saru). It looks to me like when she got "treated" in sickbay, the physician there may have just treated the immediate human medical issues and left her implant damaged or malfunctioning. Maybe it's a small arc to give her a problem to be solved (since replacing and repairing her implant might noot be possible) and eventually a new look (since the current implant must be quite an annoyance as it requires not just make-up time but also a specific haircut).

Good second episode, feels like we're just waiting for it to really kick off though. There's so much we don't know so I hope we aren't going to spend too long not knowing what's going on in the Galaxy.

On a different note, why isn't Discovery in 4K yet?

Or people could spoiler tag stuff for 24 hours which is no effort.

It's pretty much the same rule for most TV threads, once it is live spoilers are free to be posted.

If you haven't seen the latest episode, just don't go into the topic?

I am hoping the switch to paramount+ brings 4k but not holding my breath

So what are people thought on Disco up until the end of season 2? I personally loved it. The cast are fantastic, I can't pick a favorite, most of the episodes were great as well.

The final battle was one of the most exciting big scale battle I've seen on tv in a while. Very excited to start watching season 3.

Loved it, tears and all. My only ever issue was the odd change to klingon hair or lack of in the first season after so many years.

It's my favorite show on TV right now. I am loving this Star Trek era we are currently living in.

I liked the show a great deal before now. It's even better this year so far.

Really good first couple of episodes. Enjoying the future imperfect a lot, it makes the Federation principles of the main cast stick out very nicely. I think this'll scratch an itch people might not really be aware they had - seeing something good be born out of something bad. God knows I could use that after this disaster of a year.

Haven't seen the new episode yet but I'm excited to watch it tomorrow night after work. 😁

This was a really good episode that showed off the extended crew in a way I don't think we've seen before. I hope we get more of it.
Is it me or did all the jokes, the engineer whose name I will never remember, especially, fall flat?

Her back hurts... ha ha?
Reno is my favourite crew member, honestly. But her deal is she mixes sarcastic remarks with frank statements without changing tone. If you're not paying attention, you don't know where the joke ends and the sincerity begins.
Programmable Matter is a cool visual effect for sure, very "future-ey" but like...the Federation has had replicators forever. "We can arrange atoms to fit any schematic" is not new technology lol

EDIT: Okay its not widespread by the TOS era, but I gather this Programmable Matter is supposed to look impressive to us, the audience who has seen TNG and everything else and it...doesn't really. Very cool appearance though
Replicators have the benefit of being hooked-up to a large starship with banks of resources. This was a tabletop device.

Really neat first two episodes. They probably should have released them both last week, but whatevs. I can already tell this is going to be a great season for Georgiou.

Enjoyable, but not without it's problems. I really wish they would focus less on Burnham so other characters could shine a bit. Today's episode was great. Not everything has to revolve around Burnham.

Liked this episode even more than the last one. Finally having a single episode focused on someone else that isn't named Michael Burnham is a nice change of pace. Hopefully we continue with this trend in the next episodes.

Japan!
After re-watching TNG, DS9 and Voyager I'm just so grateful we don't have to suffer through shitty holodeck episodes anymore.

I liked the two eps so far and am relieved it's not going to be an entire season of them just stranded on some deserted planet somewhere.

Reno's dialog is very obviously being written in the style of Tig Notaro's (the actress) stand-up style. She's primarily known as a standup comedian that has an especially dry and flat delivery (though she had a series for a few seasons on Amazon that's quite good, IMO). If that style of humor isn't your thing I can see it not working for you. I'm always a fan of well executed deadpan delivery, so I love it.

Yeah, Tilly's "THAT'S your repair kit?" remark is meant to say, "You have this functionality in a portable repair kit?!?!" It's analogous to how 3D printers were suddenly able to be available in homes and in smaller form factors when previously additive manufacturing was relegated to large machines in actual manufacturing floors.

Great episode! Next week will be a big one.

'People of Earth'

Is there a preview for that episode I can watch somewhere? We never get those on Netflix.

I think the casting is incredible on this show, but I really don't like Tig Notaro's character either. She's just not a good actor.

This is already way way better than Picard or Lower Decks.

Discovery continues to be the best CBS All Access Trek show.
Haven't seen this episode yet but honestly Lower Decks probably had the best first season of any Star Trek show. That's probably a pretty low bar but still by the end of the season that show really found itself

Someone on YouTube argued TOS has a better first season but I almost don't think it counts. lol
It's undoubted one of the best Trek shows I've seen though. I'd rank it higher than TNG if it weren't for the fact that it depends so heavily on TNG for its very existence.

Did I miss Saru using his stingers or was it cut from the episode? I'm watching Ready Room and they showed a clip of him using them in the saloon and I don't remember that happening.

So what's the deal with episode 1 of the season being a "Part 1" but there is no Part 2 to it anywhere in the season?
