Haven't rewatched since the first showcase but I feel like I remember this as well.
Microsoft has been pretty up front about this stuff since the tomb raider debacle. Funny since Sony went from being up front to hiding it. Hopefully everyone gets to play this on their preferred platform.

I didn't pick the "Xbox rumor threads". All of his threads are Xbox based, but that's not the point of my post.
Sony have these things splashed across all trailers and we even know the duration of the deals due to the small text. Microsoft doesn't do that.
who is the publisher rn? are the devs self publishing?
edit: it could be that they were looking for funding and a publisher, but then signed a deal with MS to bring the game to game pass and got paid well. doesn't mean they're not gonna bring it to other platforms later. the official status is console exclusive at launch, i think it's best to believe them on their word unless something changes.

We knew everything that was and wasn't a ms console exclusive the first time they revealed it for like the last 3 years at least, whereas with Sony they used to be excellent about this and now we have things like FF16 where we find out months later after a trailer reupload or like that other square game that said built exclusively for PlayStation yet we found out weeks later it's coming everywhere or like Disco Elysium for consoles which announced at the game awards for PlayStation only then we found out hours later in a tweet it's coming to switch and Xbox months later as a timed exclusive.
Like I said Microsoft used to be shit but they've gotten better and vice versa with Sony. Sony needs their Tomb Raider moment but as the market leader their less likely to get it.
Self published I believe, but they definitely have a deal with Microsoft, as far as I remember, they indeed were looking for funding, when they (re)announced Stalker 2 in 2018, they did it mostly to attract publishers and funding and the development hasn't started yet.

They always say things like that for games that release first on a certain system, even Square Enix said they have no plans other than the PS5 version for FFXVI but we all know it will happen on Xbox too eventually
Eh it could just mean they haven't even thought of porting to other consoles, not that they ever will. It makes sense to start off on one platform base so that you don't overextended yourself. Especially when you can come to terms with a monetary boost for your studio

100%. The showcase it was re-revealed in had the gimmick of everything on show being either free to play or being day-one for Game Pass. Stalker ain't free to play.

I really really want ot buy an xbox because they do many things right, but that controller is just going to be absolute garbage for anything involving aiming since they didn't bother to include a gyroscope; unless they make mouse+keyboard support mandatory for those games, I'll just have to pass I think.
they legally cant talked about a version MS paid them to keep for later, which is fine, that is how it almost always works.
tbh, that doesn't say much. until the exclusivity window runs out, usually devs aren't allowed to mention other platforms because of the marketing deals they've signed.
with these deals, no one should expect the dev to say "oh yeah it's coming to this other platform that we haven't officially announced our game for later."

If there is a timed exclusive deal for a game then they're not gonna talk about other systems, that's how these things work. If the devs want to put this game on PS5 that's what they'll do. And I guess it will end on PS5 once the deal is over.
They do for some but not all deals. There aren't any details of FF16's exclusivity as far as I'm aware, just rumours. Maybe we will find out on the box art like FF7 remake.
I wonder if the details being on trailers is something some publishers push for. Would be nice if every timed deal explicitly said how long when announced.

What's with this weird revisionist history I've been seeing on Era recently that SOC was some overhyped letdown upon release? TF? Stalker and especially COP were pretty damn brilliant at release and despite the eurojank had some of the most engaging world design especially with the A-Life system. Yes mods added a lot over the years (I've personally played a ton of Call of Chernobyl), but I always thought the vanilla experience was still very compelling. We'd be lucky to get something like that sans the community patches in this day and age.

STALKER is one of the all time greats, but you are right it doesn't have any history for console only players.
Personally, I'm likely going to buy a PS5 not an Xbox but if being full PC/XB exclusive is what's needed to get a generous budget behind the game I'd take it (and play on PC down the line when I can afford to upgrade). I still think it's only timed, but we will see!
