Wondering if Google will be at E3 and if they got a high profile exclusive (3rd Party?) up their sleeves.

If it doesn't seem like they will ever gain more users consistently they should consider partnering with Nintendo to bring more 3rd party games to switch then Nintendo can split the profits with google

it's games that wouldn't be able to run on switch anyway so both of them gain something

Hopefully google just kills it and becomes another publisher with their new studios.

Id like to play Gylt too, its to bad
Go into a PS5 thread next and port beg and wish for Sony to cancel PS5 and become publisher so you can play Ghost of Tsushima...

...

You can soon play Gylt through the free sub. The service should obviously stay, they just needs to fix the economics and game library so it becomes more interesting.

I had the founder's edition pre-ordered but everything that came out about it made me cancel. Kinda glad I did.

There should be a better subscription service, more games, advertising that isn't dreadful, and a commitment that Google aren't really showing. Maybe in a year it'll actually feel like a consumer product, but right now? Nah.

How many games come out next month?

Honestly, it feels like Google doesn't care, it's just another letter in their Alphabet. Stadia will never be as important as Google search.

Mine never arrived and I've been arguing with Google's horrendous customer service ever since. I'm done with them after this. Their customer service is the worst I've dealt with in decades of dealing with intentionally bad customer service.

Stadia pushed me away from stadia and onto Shadow which is a vastly Superior streaming service. Crazy that this poll shows more founder's not using it than using it. 100% regret investing in the service but oh well.

I don't own Stadiouya, and I don't plan on getting it.

It just never looked like something I'd be remotely interesting in using. I don't see the appeal in streaming at all. I like locally rendered games, everything else just feels wrong to me and I have a PC + all the consoles that interest me. I'm still not sure why I would want to buy games on a service and stream them? it seems utterly pointless to me, like a watered down version of the real thing. I have uncapped fiber optic internet, so that's not even a hurdle.

I was one of the few who was actually kinda intrigued by this and willing to give it a go, but didn't want to go all in on the founders pack.

Over Christmas I got gifted a Rift S and ended up buying a new gaming rig that's hooked up to my big screen, so at this point I don't see much reason to get it going forward after that investment that plays all the same games and more.

Yes, Google sent out an email with a downloadable "cheer" to use as a ringtone. Source - I'm a founder.

I really wish they had some sort of roadmap or something that shows what they have planned, what games are being added to the service, what exclusives they may have planned, some new features or something. Google being new to this game shows that they have A LOT to learn.

IF next gen comes around and Stadia can provide the games I want without having to buy a new console or PC, that's a big incentive for me to try it. But that's a big if considering the state of the service right now. Perhaps they don't see value in spending a bunch of money to lock down games that people are already playing on local hardware. Who knows. They so desperately need games on the service though.

Just FYI, you can get FFXV for half off that at least on pretty much any other system when on sale. Like Amazon has it at a base price of $12.50 new on PS4.
I actually have it on Xbox already :P
But I guess it's 60fps on Stadia? *

* Another thing that needs to be fixed! There needs to be information for the resolution and framerate. It's crazy that we're essentially getting that from DF now.

The least they could do is put up 15 min demo sessions for every game.

Calm down man i was just stating some thoughts. The difference here is Sony actually publishes games. Which is what i said i want google to do. Stadia doesnt have a single 1st party game or timeline of when we might get one. There are multiple other ways to play the same games and better except for Gylt which i said id like to play. Just with a better experience than Stadia offers. Its my preference thats all. If you enjoy stadia that's awesome enjoy it.

It's fine as an option, especially if it can add value to something you're paying for anyway. As the only way to play and with no games that exploit streaming's strengths then yeah, it can feel pretty pointless.

I have been a gamer my whole life, I am a tech nerd and usually have a lot of PC battle station builds going on. I pay attention. I use Google for a lot of stuff. This is the first month & holiday season in about 20 years that I never got intoxicated at all, and my memory is good.

I honestly totally forgot the platform existed for the last few weeks, despite seeing and skipping all kinds of those shitty ads for it on YouTube every day. I autopilot my way through the skipping of ads anyway, but I gave no conscious thought to Stadia in that time.

I think Yeti would have been a better name for it too. Google needs to overhaul what they are doing.

It's the 10th of January and Stadia still doesn't have any games scheduled for release this month.

We're only into month 3 and already the releases have dried up.

I think I'd be more likely to care about game streaming in a world where everything I own didn't have streaming limits.

My home connection is good, and I have a fairly high bandwidth cap, but I'm approaching the limit pretty regularly on a monthly basis as it is. Throwing in streaming games as well would just push it over the edge.

I'd like to play on my phone, but I'm already paying out the nose for my 10 gigs a month, and I really don't want to go above that and incur further charges.

I don't travel enough to want something I can plug in anywhere, and most hotel connections where I have travelled haven't seemed like they'd be nearly robust enough for streaming a game.

I can understand the appeal of "play anywhere!", but in practice it's just not viable unless there are major changes to the way internet access is done in Canada.

Since I'm a competitive gamer, Stadia is not for me so I definitely won't get it.

Also, even just for gaming it's slacking.

- No messaging/group messaging
- No Party chat/Private chat
- Terrible screenshot/recording functionality
- No built in streaming to their OWN YouTube platform

But the #1 reason is the games. You need games. Simple as that.

They launched WAAAAY too early. Also, apparently some Stadia owners found the app sometimes unlocking on non-pixel phones and then locking again. So from the looks of it, Google is locking other Androids on purpose, which is stupid. Lol

I'd try out Stadia if they ever would have shipped me a Founders pack...

-Pre-ordered then they cancelled a few days later as they said it isn't supported where I am.

-Reordered after I got an email that let me order the Founder's pack from the email that cancelled on me. Waited a month from end of November in (delayed order) to see a cancellation email last week saying they don't ship to where I am (they shouldn't have sent me an email in the first place from the same email I got a cancellation last time to reorder it again if they don't ship it to where I am)...

-Debated getting one on eBay (since they don't care about living locations). But those markups made me nope out of there.

At this point, I'm just waiting for the free version (if it ever gets supported where I am...). Watching to see how it goes from the sidelines. They lost my money cause of their restrictions...

I got in using a Buddy Pass.

Stadia's underlying technology is there, it works! I have had no real issues using it at my end.

But as a platform it feels very incomplete. It's a paid beta. It will need to mature a lot before it becomes a viable platform. Stadia Base alone won't be its saving grace. It needs content, features and a different business model for it to succeed. I can't see myself paying $10 a month for Stadia Pro.

I would probably use Stadia more if I could access it on my Android phone, tablet or Nvidia Shield TV. I don't need (or want) a Chromecast. Google is a company that knows exactly what devices people are using and yet they still decided to make Stadia (initially) only work on their own stuff.

The promise shown was also more interesting than what ended being reality. If they had released what the hype-men promised, I could at least understand some enthusiasm. The service and the games released so far haven't exactly delivered on their lofty promises of resolution/performance. The games are also mostly old hat.

----

How many devs are going to put an effort into porting their old games now that the well looks dry... I guess Google can throw dollar bills around as enticement, but how many will actually really port with enthusiasm now? And Google building all the software themselves, at a system/service selling level, is looking like a utopian dream that'll never happen.

I have no doubts that streaming is happening across the industry, whether I personally like it or not. It is the next step in taking ownership away from consumers and selling subscriptions and rentals. It's every corporate suit's wet dream, so the push will be strong. I'll just continue to avoid it as long as I can do the traditional thing, which I don't see going away for a long time.

Google seems to have royally botched their first attempt - selling full priced games for streaming is a big part of that, imo. I think that companies like Microsoft and Sony will do better at this streaming thing since they know games/gaming better.

damn, those poll results.

and this is on a video game enthusiast website, who is even using this?
I think their only chance for success is finding a market outside of gamers realistically. But the problem is that non-gamers are not going to pay $20-60 for a game. A game to them is maybe $2-3. Or it's free.

They've made a device that has no real user base to make it successful.

Yeah, this is why I think PS Now and GamePass/xCloud feel better to me. They're more of an addition to existing services, rather than something totally separate. I'm not required to use xCloud to stream games, I just have the option to do so, if I choose (once it's released lol).

Once the "free" (non-4k) version comes out, I may try it out on one or two games. The use case for me will be very specific - games that I could easily pick up and play 20-30 minutes of while I'm at a relative's house, or on my crappy laptop while traveling, etc. That's about it though.

It's not in yet. The service is pretty much early access right now and they were foolish not to label it as such.

No kidding. Not sure how they intend to turn around public perception of this service if they have months of a negative narrative being built up. Publishers were already very tentative, they're going to be even less likely to invest in ports now with their collective attentions diverted by the new consoles.
I was told they are adding games all the time.

Was that inaccurate?

0 games in January, 1 in February that I can see.

Agreed, it's jumping into a market that is far beyond its barebones presentation. There's no messaging, no profile page, no store wishlisting, no store gifting, and it's severely lacking a library of games.

And being in 2020 with no streaming functionality is practically a crime.

Founder here. Not really using it. Main reason being the games available aren't the best versions (graphically). I was thinking I might use this for Cyberpunk if that provided the best looking/performing experience but now I'm thinking it's doubtful that will be the case compared to my PC set up.

Mostly, I wanted to test it now just to see how well it works, and honestly, it works pretty well. That was the base line for viability to me though. I still think streaming is going to be a big factor this gen, but I think xCloud makes more sense for my use case (assuming it preforms as well).

Making my phone make any kind of noise is the opposite of a perk, Google.

Also, they really should have held off until they actually had compelling content for the service.
