What is the strategy?
Getting people to watch the show lol.

Sure, many will be dissapointed, but I don't think it'll be enough that S-E will care about any backlash or whatever, especially since they didn't promise anything and things already looked a bit dire in the Japanese game department (beyond Babylon's Fall) since the original announcement a week ago. Also, people's memories are short, especially if they do show XVI in a couple of weeks.

Again, I'm very bummed out because we don't even know if a Sony event is happening and I'd been banking on S-E's E3 since September. But I get what they do, as annoying as it is.

FF IV the complete collection style >>>>>> DS 3D remake style all day but just my opinion.

I think most people agree that the PSP game looks way better, but the rebalance for the DS version puts it to the top tier of FF games. All of the tweaks really made it one of the GOAT RPGs in terms of boss fights, and that tendency is clear among the following Asano games. DQ3... is kind of weird for the team, as the original version of the game are totally devoid of significant boss fights.

Wonder if they'll go fancy with the collection's name. Like including the word "crystal" or something in there.

I need to figure out how to edit gifs so I can swap out Dr. Who standing in the rain with Lara Croft.

It would make sense for Square to announce FF Origin in a Sony event, i dont think they would show two Final Fantasy games in the same Sony event tho

So who knows

fwiw they announced world of final fantasy at the same event as ff7r, there's definitely precedent for it

doesn't mean it's going to happen (my guess is origin is today and we see an updated 16 trailer/more info at whenever the sony presentation is), but it's certainly not something that they wouldn't do

Yeah, I don't see why we'd get Origin here if it's exclusive. Kind of already pre-empting the concern trolling when that and XVI are no-shows. Something something, FKN NOMURA, IT'S YOUR FAULT.

I'm 80% leaning towards "no XVI" and the reason behind the "mystery" being that they know many fans will tune in on account of it maybe showing up.

I don't get this mentality. Surely you'd get more people to watch your show if you went "Hey this thing you're excited for will be in this show!'" instead of "Hey this thing you're excited for might be at this so tune in for the entire thing in case it maybe shows up!" More people would watch this show if they knew XVI was going to be there.

Origin being in SEs show was part of the Origin leak. I don't get why people are forgetting that.

Assuming it's not a Switch only collection, they better give every FF game a platinum.

I don't expect to see XVI, and I used to think XVI was a late 2021 / early 2022 release, but I don't see that happening with Endwalker in November.

XVI was probably never going to launch in '21, but don't let that fool you into believing it's progressing poorly. (Not saying you are or anything; more of a reflexive preemptive strike against anybody who says "no way that game is out before 2025 roflmao.")

HD2D games take years to make. How the hell are they supposed to pull 3 out of nowhere?

I'm hopeful that at least 6 has got that treatment. But I wouldn't say no to 5 getting it this year and 6 coming out next year (have them made by two teams or stagger production).

1 - 4 have various options, the 3DS version of 4 seemingly being the best version. Give it 4K textures and resolution, a slightly higher polygon count and better lighting and I'd be perfectly happy with that.

They'll go with something not at all confusing, like "Chronicle of the the Crystals"
I'd go with "Final Fantasy Dawn"

While many of the earlier revolve around the traditional crystals, games like FFVI lake that tradition and its take on crystals are "Magicite" (just like FFX's take on "crystals" are the Spheres and FFVIII's take on the crystals is the crystal pillar). From my recollection, FFII's take on the crystals were also different than FFI, FFIII, FFIV and FFV's take.

Square Enix always have that one weird game announcement from famous people ---- Left Alive, Project Prelude Rune, Balan. I wonder what it'll be.

Well, I'm interested in the Guardians game but man I hope Deus Ex appears at E3 in the next two years.

If the trailer really wasn't a vertical slice but in development footage, they're going along pretty smoothly, and they seemed to have time to iterate and prototype it since...post-Heavensward, so 2016 I think. There is a chance they have a lot of things under control and that they're trying another marketing strategy considering fan feedback.

That's the thing though, that FF XVI is probably not there and will instead be at Sony's after whatever agreement between the two. If they said "no FF XVI just yet, wait a little longer" I know I probably wouldn't be watching this live (I don't think I will today, actually, depends on when I get home).

Oh yeah I know it means it won't be there and that they won't say it's not there, but it just goes into what I was saying earlier in the thread about how SE would say XVI would be there if it was actually there. I don't get why you'd think they wouldn't mention if it was there.

Man I was excited to see some FFXVI but you Negative Nancys might have a point. I guess there's still that rumored spin-off.

Ah, sorry, I see what you mean.

Yeah. And especially with even unannounced games like GotG ring explicitly mentioned as being there.

Probably jinxing it, but considering this whole presentation supposedly leaked, impressed that it didn't get out there.

As much as I'd love more FFXVI news, between FF Origin, probably the Endwalker trailer and a potential collection to show that is more than enough Final Fantasy for an E3 presentation. I would love to be wrong but my expectations are tempered.

I dunno. I've only played Drakengard 3, and I'm not sure Square has enough balls these days to release a game featuring a whore, a psycho, a masochist, a pervert and a dumb dragon. Especially the dumb dragon.
To be fair, Square are apparently working on a Yoko Taro game that they are incredibly reluctant about him making lol, so very well could be a new Drakengard game.
