I think a remake/remaster announcement now would be timely given that the 10th anniversary is next year, but I don't really think it's in the cards.
Some of the stuff revealed this year is probably stuff they wanted to show last year but couldn't due to development delays
Yeah, they're not remaking or remastering the original Nier any time soon. Better to keep going with the series than look back.

I've got a great story about sd3. I've never played it either but I wanted to, so I set out to make a cart. Followed instructions online, programmed some rom chips with the translation, soldered a bunch of stuff in the cart with a chip to bypass security. Took me a while, but then the day came! I finished!
Put this Frankenstein cart in my 12 year old snes (pronounced s, n, e, s) and bzzzzt. Fried it :(
Yoko Taro directing a Final Fantasy game would probably be really, really terrible, honestly. He's not a bad director, but his counterculture, anti-player design mentality isn't really a good fit for a full-fledged RPG.
Also he's been getting progressively more pervy as his games have become more and more popular and I don't think FF is a good place for his "I like butts" bullshit.
I can't wait, but why did Square have to take the stage during the NBA Finals. No one in Canada should be watching E3, lol.
Gimme that single player FFXI remake. I'm begging at this point.

As bad as his designs are, at least his female characters tend to have personality and agency and presence within the story, instead of whatever the hell FFXV was doing with Luna.

I could definitely see a remaster of the first Nier, but not a new installment yet.
Luna sucks, but at least she wasn't a walking fetish. And I think a lot of the reason Luna sucks is because all of the content she was really involved in got cut. They really thought they had something special with her.
Meanwhile, Taro is just like "fuck it one of my female characters is maid porn and the other one is rape porn". My opinions of the man really soured while I was playing Automata, and I say that as a hardcore fanboy of OG Nier.
I doubt it. Square will likely reveal new information at each event till March so they will save tons of infos.
Yeaaah, to be fair I was thinking more along the lines of Kaine than anything in Automata. The characters in that were really a step down from the original group
I think Tifa is a lock and we might get a TEASE of Vincent. Cid, Cait and Yuffie probably not.
My prediction: I bet we get one cool thing we know about, a bunch of mobile stuff, and a tease for something we didn't know about.

Agreed. I really like Kaine since she's a deconstruction of the porny male-gaze characters and that was back when Laura Bailey didn't voice every single major female character in every game so hearing her swearing like a sailor was great.
2B and A2 were just awful. 9S wasn't any better. :(

Yeah, Red would make sense to show before Vincent. But I do think we'll see him sooner rather than later because there's no way they're going to keep him as an optional character like he was originally.

I'm playing through both. It was much needed for FF7, and definitely helps. The FF9 one looks *incredible* though. The CG backgrounds were much more detailed than FF7's in the original release of FF9, and so the AI learning can do a much better job with upscaling it I guess. They should both be pretty essential mods for anyone playing those games on PC from now on, though modding FF7 is a bit of a pain to setup.
I agree that the cast in the original NieR was overall better but I disagree about any of the Automata cast being outright bad (in particular 9S's mental breakdown was fascinating to watch), though I do think the criticisms about 2B and A2's design and whatnot are perfectly valid.
I also agree that I wouldn't want Yoko directing a mainline FF but that's mostly because I would expect them to meddle and leave him burnt out like they did with Matsuno. He's better off in the corner doing his own thing.
