Badbunny must be huge in latin america because I don't see much about him in my corner of the world. I don't hear him on the radio either.
But most of those artists are pretty damn huge everywhere in the world and I'm suprised that so many don't seem to know them.

He was big with Latinos in America but then hit it big with English speakers, too.
I thought Justin Bieber would be higher, dude dropped some heat this year but yeah, list is pretty predictable.

Reggaeton is definitely the biggest music export of Puerto Rico, but if that's not your kind of music, there's a lot of independent bands from Puerto Rico putting out great music in other genres.

the buscabulla album was nice. I haven't revisited it, but I enjoyed my first listen.

Thanks! I'm glad I'm not the only one here who enjoyed it. It's not usually the kind of music I enjoy, but I love checking out the bandcamp daily "scene report" style articles and finding out about different music scenes around the world. It's not often I listen to an album on repeat, but this one struck a chord with me.

My thread about his new album that came out last week, El Ultimo Tour De Mundo, got like 3 replies and that shit is fire as fuck and is gonna be everywhere on the charts through spring. He didn't even do his usual style and switched it up, there's only like 3 reggaeton songs on there vs all the rap/ rock influence it has.
I guess this means Spotify is on the cusp of doing rolling out their yearly Wrapped feature for users, I wonder how much of my plays contributed to Bad Bunny, wouldn't be surprised if he's in my top 3. His first album he released this year, YLHQMDLG was so fucking stacked with bangers.

I feel like Spotify is a lot more relevant than radio charts these days but that ship has sailed. Sadly, Spotify just isn't for me. Every time I go check it out, there's only a few albums from artists I like catalogues, and it is EXTREMELY Western-centric. It was hard to find Asian artists especially. I just stick to YouTube. I'll check it out again but over the past 10 years I never end up sticking with it very long.
I have no idea who Bad Bunny is and I have no idea who J Balvin is... (and made that second comment after he got his own McDonalds combo thing as well lol)
All of the Billboard charts that people care about include Spotify numbers anyway.
Not musically, but between Fortnite, PS5 and McDonald's he definitely had enough visibility to keep up the streams for Astroworld and all those random singles he's put out since then.
Damn I know all of these artists except bad bunny. I thought I wasnt bad keeping up on trends but apparently not anymore lmao. I guess being stuck inside and hardly talking to anyone about popular music all year does that to you...
I mean, I guarantee there will be people who will listen to them in 50 years. Nobody knows what the music landscape will look like in 10 years, let alone 50, but people love music they grew up with.

No idea. Last year's was 12/12, 2018 was 24/12, 2017 was 18/11 and 2016 3/12. 🤷♂️ (according to the added dates on mine)

I threw on The Slow Rush in my parent's backyard one day this summer and they were all sort of "oh what's this it's pretty good!" and when I'd mentioned it wasn't a late-70s act like they had assumed, but a current-year record by a single dude recording by himself - they seemed suddenly less interested lmao.
If nothing else, I pity people like this - because all they're really doing is closing themselves off to an infinite wealth of really great music for no good reason other than "I like what I like". There's never been a better time for either broadening your horizons with something new, or really getting down to the nitty gritty of what kind of music you like and finding new, super niche artists who create it.
There's nothing more exciting to me than falling in love with with an artist that I hadn't known existed right before that moment. With Spotify, Youtube, etc. - it happens so often and I'm probably a happier person for it.
