Just finished the game last night. Wow. I am really looking forward to where they go with the sequel (and probable trilogy). They seem to have a lot of material to work with, both in terms of enemies and also locations. It is pretty clear that Thor will be the main enemy of the next game (God of War: Wrath of Thor?), and that sets up an ultimate clash with Odin in third installment. I wonder how they will handle Atreus/Loki moving forward, I guess he will need to be a few years older, since the voice actor is a teenager already. In terms of locations, I'm really hoping there is a large-scale level in Vanaheim – based on the magical portrait in Freya's hut, it looks really beautiful and mystical. I'm also hoping that Alfheim gets more time in the spotlight – maybe it could be home to a challenge based realm like Muspelheim and Niflheim are in this game.
My favorite moment in the game was going back to get the Blades of Chaos. It was just so fucking epic…. the boat ride back where you realize what he is doing, and Kratos talks to Athena is such an amazing moment, confirming that they haven't thrown the franchise's past away and this is truly a sequel. Then when you arrive home and you are forced to fight through a wave of Helwalkers. Your axe is useless so you need to bludgeon them one by one with fists before arriving at home. Then with the blades in hand, there is another wave that you can absolutely rip apart – your first taste of how the blades work in the game. What an incredible moment – huge credit to Sony, SMS, Cory and all for keeping in a secret the whole time. Feel bad for people who got spoiled on that, as I'm guessing that was the most commonly and easily spoiled moment.
What a game! Probably in my top three PS4 games right after MGSV and right ahead of Horizon. Now I just need that 100 percent.
i just beat it and I have to agree. That entire segment was so awesome, though in the end I still preferred using the axe over the blades. I was kinda hoping Athena would say more, but it was still good.
That revelation about Atreus being Loki is still reeling in my head. I'm not sure how to feel, but it looks like the sequel will have alot to work with and should be pretty epic.
