NASA Updates TV Coverage for First Crew Rotation Flight on US Commercial Spacecraft - NASA

Editor’s Note: This advisory was updated on Nov. 15, 2020, with additional partcipants for the Postlaunch News Conference and a start time for

NASA and SpaceX are now targeting 7:27 p.m. EST Sunday, Nov. 15, for liftoff of the agency's SpaceX Crew-1 mission to fly astronauts from Launch Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida to the International Space Station.

Teams moved the launch by one day because of onshore winds and to enable recovery of the first stage booster, which is planned to be reused to launch the Crew-2 mission next year. The booster is expected to land on the recovery ship about nine minutes after launch.

NASA will provide continuous coverage - more than 30 hours - of the prelaunch, launch, docking and arrival activities for the first crew rotation flight of the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft on a Falcon 9 rocket following certification by NASA for regular flights to the space station as part of the agency's Commercial Crew Program.

The Crew Dragon is scheduled to dock to the space station around 11 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16. Launch, prelaunch activities, and docking will air live on NASA Television and the agency's website.

The Crew-1 flight will carry Crew Dragon Commander Michael Hopkins, Pilot Victor Glover, and Mission Specialist Shannon Walker, all of NASA, along with Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) Mission Specialist Soichi Noguchi, to the space station for a six-month science mission.

I'm confused, how is this the first? I though they did this already?

Edit - oh wasn't the last attempt called off for bad weather?

The one this summer was the first crewed launch test, including docking and coming back from the ISS, two astronauts. This one is an actual mission, sending four astronauts to the station like other missions in the past, for six months.

How long were the 2 at the ISS last time?
Playing with SpaceX's docking simulator was a lot of fun.

SPACEX - ISS Docking Simulator

This simulator will familiarize you with the controls of the actual interface used by NASA Astronauts to manually pilot the SpaceX Dragon 2 vehicle to the International Space Station.

Looks like it's a beautiful day at Cape Canaveral rn so if something ends the launch it won't be weather though it was raining earlier. Very exciting.

IIRC only a couple weeks. Again this is basically another test mission to see if Crew Dragon can handle now four astronauts (it can seat six total).

So first, the demo mission was there for more than two months. Then, this is not another test mision but a full rotation. Third, NASA has no plan to use more then 4 seats per mission.

This is exciting! I hope all goes well for them.

On a side note, am i the only one who thinks that this Space X/NASA astronaut suit looks kinda goofy?

I'm fine with them, I'm more annoyed with the polo shirts and khaki chinos. I want space uniforms!

Fun fact: there is no washing machine in the ISS. Clothes are not washed. They just keep wearing the same dirty clothes and underwear for extended periods of time.

I bet by now the ISS is full of weird mutated bacterias.

The whole place STINKS apparently

I'm surprised they can wear cotton clothes and don't have to all shave their heads and get body hair waxed before leaving, always wear a hair net like cap, and then always shave with the vacuum cleaner. I know it sounds extreme but really people spend months there and the place is operated over decades.

Imagine when someone farts.

Launching at night gave a really clear view of the green light from the TEA / TEB ignition.

Edit: Second stage as well!
