Sony PlayStation Japan has now announced that the repair services of PlayStation 3's last current model (PS3 Slim) will come to an end soon in Japan. In addition to that, PlayStation Portable-3000 repairs will be also ending soon.

As revealed on the official Japanese PlayStation website, Sony will stop accepting repairs for PS3 CECH-3000 series (160GB / 320GB models) after May 31, 2019. This is being done due to the shortage of parts inventory. Users of the PlayStation 3 3000 series system with a warranty are advised to apply for after-sales service via PlayStation Support or online repair reception service before June 1, 2019.

Below are the PS3 models which can be sent for after-sales service by May 31, 2019

  • CECH-3000A (160GB model) Release date late June 2011
  • CECH-3000B (320GB model) Release date late June 2011
  • CECH-3000ALW (160GB model) Release date September 8, 2011
  • CECH-3000ATX (160GB model) Release date September 8, 2011
  • CECH-3000ANK (320GB model) Release date November 17, 2011
  • CECH-3000BSB (320GB model) Release date November 17, 2011
  • CECH-3000 BSR (320GB model) Release date November 17, 2011
  • CECH-3000BFF (320GB model) Release date December 15, 2011
  • CECH-3000 BOP (320GB model) Release date March 1, 2012
Meanwhile, for PSP, Sony says that they are running out of repair components. Because of that, all PlayStation Portable owners should consider applying for after-sales service as soon as possible. It's likely to end very soon and Sony will be announcing when they run out of repair parts.

Below are the target PSP devices.

  • PSP-3000 Series Launch Date October 2008
  • Peripheral devices of PSP (PlayStation Portable)

Sad times. I love my PS3 but never bought a Vita.

My PSTV acts as my Vita, PSP and PS1 machine. All worth it once both consoles have some custom firmware loaded in em.

PSP was the best non-nintendo handheld gaming device ever, such a great system and massively ahead of its time. end of an era.

Fingers crossed for PS3 backward compatibility with the PS5. By the end of its lifespan, the PS3 amassed quite the number of great games, and there are still many that I never did get around to playing.

I wonder if in 20 or 30 years we'll see a PS3 replica? These games and systems need to still be playable for future generations

I take great care of my PS3 Super-Slim,I even made sure to buy the latest revision of it because of the additional die-shrink of the RSX.
Such a great console,so many hidden gems..hope it will last.

So if they are running out of parts for the PS3 console, what happens when the same components start failing in the PS Now servers?
