Watergate was both corrupt and unsuccessful. At least it's easy to push back against that narrative if they do end up going there.Next is: Ok so it was corrupt, but it wasn't successful!
They're basically already there.

The thing is at least half of that 40% is probably just saying that to keep an internal narrative that they're impartial. Also there is the Monmouth poll going around today where ~60% of Trump supporters say their minds cannot be changed no matter what. Well that still leaves 40% where this all matters. This is definitely the correct course of action both constitutionally and strategically.
Has his fundraising not gone way up since the impeachment process started?People need to stop with this energizing his base crap. His base is already energized and going to vote for him - that's why they're his base.
How the fuck can the Republicans justify gathering in unison on this shit?
You could potentially attribute it to the impeachment inquiry. I would more likely attribute it to the 2020 campaign kicking up in earnest as the year winds down.Has his fundraising not gone way up since the impeachment process started?
The White House has adopted the "totally clears the president" meme as a strategy.Um, what?
Transcript: Did the president commit a crime? Yes.
WH: See, totally innocent. Thank you, bye bye
Let them vote. Democrats are the ones who have to convince republican voters who voted for Trump are supporting a criminal president.
If anything, Trump will have more shit to worry about, like state charges & civil lawsuits. Pardoning Trump for federal crimes won't save him.At this point he should resign so Pence can pardon him.
Fucking hell...
Taxes yesterday and Sondland today. If Bolton, Giuliani or Barr turn...

I'm all for impeachment if they can get him removed, but I worry about what happens when we essentially set him up for "victory" over what he will call a corrupt and unjust investigation by the House. We're handing him a W and giving him more money.

Wait until we have hard evidence of something the Senate can't ignore. So what' the alternative? Just let them commit more and more crimes because they'll say any investigation is unjust??
The type of people the WH statement is for will never actually check the transcripts of these hearings. After all, it's a "sham." It's working as intended - just meant to be a piece of meat for outlets like Fox News so that they can push a narrative with some sort of faux legitimacy.Um, what?

In the absence of that, yeah, just focus on defeating him in 2020. We already know he's a criminal. We knew that before he was elected. Without something that can stick, it doesn't matter.
We'll see. I hope you're right.
It's already being reflected in the polls. There's been a massive swing in support for impeachment and removal.
I'm apprehensive of "the polls" these days. It's already being reflected in the polls. There's been a massive swing in support for impeachment and removal.
It is not declining. Why do people think this? His approval is declining. He can raise more money from the same idiots all he wants if less people vote for him.

At least initially, most Democrats were less explicit than Mr. Trump in seeking to monetize the impeachment push, with several emailing their lists of supporters to first ask them to sign impeachment petitions, rather than asking directly for donations.
But money still flowed: The online ticker for ActBlue, the company that processes most online Democratic donations, showed that Tuesday was one of the bigger fund-raising days in recent months that was not linked to a Democratic debate or a monthly deadline. The site showed $4.6 million in donations on Tuesday, after $4.2 million on Monday.https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/03/...on=CompanionColumn&contentCollection=Trending
All the 2020 Democratic presidential campaigns use ActBlue, as do most Democratic House and Senate candidates.
The Democratic National Committee said a text message it sent out on Tuesday evening raised more money than any of its previous texting efforts. "URGENT: Stand with Speaker Pelosi as the House moves forward with an official impeachment inquiry against Donald Trump," the message read.
We're tired of the argument that impeachment is useless because the senate will acquit. Acquittal of@realDonaldTrump in 2020 by Moscow Mitch et al. may happen, but will have the same credibility as an all white jury acquitting a Mississippi Klansman in 1965. Voters know that.
Are we...are we looking at the same graph? It has certainly been trending negative.

Are we...are we looking at the same graph?
41.4% is where it's been, plus or minus one percent, for the past six months.
It's not backfiring, but it's not doing anything to decrease it, either. The trend is down since impeachment proceedings formally got underway. The claims this is backfiring are not at all represented in the data and are pretty clearly contradicted in fact.
It's not backfiring, but it's not doing anything to decrease it, either.
If you choose the absolute high point of his approval, 43.1, sure. But this has had almost no statistical impact over the timeline of the last two months, especially considering error margins.
Not criticizing the impeachment, it was necessary (especially to a democratic base that demanded it), but as usual, very few people are changing their minds. You live in Reality A or Reality B. And Reality B people, by and large, cannot be reasoned with.
The above will ring true. It helps that Trump's crimes here, even in just this more narrow focus on Ukraine, makes Nixon's and Clinton's impeachment crimes look like parking tickets. Trump can say goodbye to the suburbs after the public hearings are through.

Dude, you can choose the window however you want. The graph is unquestionably trending down over the past few weeks. It didn't even see a blip after killing Al Baghdadi. It's not outside the historical range but it's not at all unreasonable to see the negative impact impeachment proceedings are having in his approval. We see the exact same effect on the general increase in support for impeachment overall. It's trending up.

Whether Trump's numbers go down is less interesting than whether they go up. Partisanship would lead us to believe that the impeachment process would cause soft GOP voters to rally around Trump, but we aren't seeing that. At best we're seeing these soft voters taking a 'wait and see' approach, which means they aren't reflexively circling wagons.
