I genuinely did not see the harassment coming when her twitter reactions first popped up, I guess I'm way too naive. So embarrassing.
We had a thread here where tons of people sided with someone harassing Daisy Ridley in her private life just because they didn't like TLJ. So this was bound to happen sadly.I genuinely did not see the harassment coming when her twitter reactions first popped up, I guess I'm way too naive. So embarrassing.
Remember when KMT got harassed off social media and people here felt it was more important to shit on her character? We had a thread here where tons of people sided with someone harassing Daisy Ridley in her private life just because they didn't like TLJ. So this was bound to happen sadly.

Era is complicit. This shit is everywhere, and once again the immeasurable stupidity of Star Wars idiots has bled into the real world.Remember when KMT got harassed off social media and people here felt it was more important to shit on her character?

It goes against their narrative that everyone hates Star Wars because THE WOMAN ruined it:
"This harassment is terrible, but let me write five paragraphs explaining why Rose was the worst atrocity ever committed to cinema, in which I imply the harassment was justifiable"Remember when KMT got harassed off social media and people here felt it was more important to shit on her character?

Ah yes the thread where it was declared it was okay to harass her because Disney only put her in the movie to appeal to China despite the fact she isn't Chinese.Remember when KMT got harassed off social media and people here felt it was more important to shit on her character?
Not just very likely, you are GUARANTEED to be harassed if you happen to be a non-white male who enjoys current Star Wars sadly. If you are a woman, a PoC or Queer and you have the temerity to publicly enjoy TLJ you are very likely to be harassed, abused and potentially doxxed.
There is a significant minority of the Star Wars fandom who have been radicalised and organised in much the same way as the alt-right.
Not trying to defend these fucking shit people at all, but maybe don't live tweet your reactions and just enjoy the movies. Because Twitter is a cesspool of fucking wretches. People should expect this by now and not be concerned with it, or just not use the garbage. Especially when it involves "sensitive" (LMAO the fact that I thought that was the right word to use in this context is outstanding to myself) topics like these. Because nothing is going to change about the way it operates and hasn't changed since it's inception.
Threads like this where it's like "omg she got harassed on Twitter?!? The humanity!!" are fucking outrageous to me. Of course she fucking got harassed on Twitter. She's a woman enjoying the Star Wars movies. It's that simple. What do you think Twitter is? It's a horrible place. No better than any other horribly moderated shit online community. It baffles me that anyone thinks any differently. She might as well have posted her reactions on 4chan.
Oh fuck I forgot about thatAh yes the thread where it was declared it was okay to harass her because Disney only put her in the movie to appeal to China despite the fact she isn't Chinese.

People shouldn't accept that though. People should be able to post their thoughts without having to accept abuse in return. Maybe those people, the abusers are the ones that should stop posting, not the victims who just want to have fun online.
She would have gotten less shit on 4chan than what she did in Twitter co soldering it's anon posting. Not trying to defend these fucking shit people at all, but maybe don't live tweet your reactions and just enjoy the movies. Seems like you can only be a Star Wars fan if you hate the majority of Star Wars

It isn't a twitter problem and dismissing it as this is dismissing the sexism, racism, and harassment issue in Star Wars fandom against those who aren't white males who like current Star Wars. It's a real problem. It's not "oh that's internet social media".Man...that's a great solution!!!
Oh wait...Twitter doesn't give a fuck. And most likely never will. They've proven time and time again that they not only will let this stuff slide on a constant basis, but many times they even take it's side.
There's no "fixing" Twitter, and I don't even know why anyone would want to. It has very clearly demonstrated since the beginning that it is no better than any other community that fosters bigotry and hate. Don't use it. And if you do, unfortunately, expect this shit. It is what it is, and it is what it has been is for like half a decade now.
Why don't we go to 4chan and tell them they should stop posting illegal pornography? Or that they should stop being racist? No? That's ridiculous because it's pretty much impossible? Well so is thinking you can take the garbage out of Twitter. Even the company itself doesn't believe they can do it.

Here is the thing. People don't harass everyone who likes Endgame or Captain Marvel or whatever other Marvel movie on Twitter. But if you are a woman or POC who likes modern Star Wars it's almost a forgone conclusion you are going to get harassed, mocked, or doxxed. How is that fair?
We drove George Lucas into retirement. We bullied Jake Lloyd into insanity. We bullied Ahmed Best into becoming suicidal. We sent a tidal wave of racism/sexism towards John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Kelly Marie Tran and Laura Dern. What will it take? When will we finally wake up and re-evaluate our collective humanity in light of such intense hatred? What are YOU going to do, to stop this cycle of evil?
I think it's perfectly fine for creators to try and explore new things
Btw, this part from that same Reddit post really sums up what the SW fandom has been like for last few decades now
"She shouldn't have gone out wearing something like that, she was basically asking for it"
Come on. She is the victim here.
Stop saying it's Twitters problem. You are dismissing the real issue here.Very obviously this is not what I'm saying. It's fucking Twitter's problem and the people that keep encouraging the notion that it is somehow not a complete garbage bin of hatred, which leads people like this to think it's fun or even acceptable to express their likes/opinions without the aspect of being barraged by disgust and risking their personal information being violated.
It's fucking garbage and it's enablers are garbage. And the sooner people accept that, the sooner people like this woman may be able to avoid a fate such as this.
Stop saying it's Twitters problem. You are dismissing the real issue here.
If you are a woman or POC who likes current Star Wars and post it on social media you *WILL* get harassed and attacked. This isn't the case with MCU or other fandoms.
There is a strong racist and sexist tilted hate group who can't stand current Star Wars and will harass and doxx any woman or minority who they find who likes it. This is not a Twitter or social media issue. This doesn't happen to people who like current Marvel films. Or other franchises.
Ah yes the thread where it was declared it was okay to harass her because Disney only put her in the movie to appeal to China despite the fact she isn't Chinese.
Yeah, I saw some of this earlier. It's more than a bit ridiculous. What I've come to realize from events like this is that while Disney's handling of the Star Wars IP has had some missteps of varying degrees, and some films are lesser quality than others in the franchise, it's really the fans who are ruining Star Wars. The sequel trilogy really has been fine, it hasn't executed on all its concepts as well as it could have, but the films have been enjoyable to great so far. I'm determined not to let these fans ruin it for me any longer.
You know, hilariously, as an Asian Canadian I grew up loving Star Wars but when I heard a colleague say that Donnie Yen (who I thought was one of the best parts of the movie) "wasn't necessary," I was seriously disheartened. And then they mentioned exactly that Chinese dollar excuse, yet I honestly felt like it worked beyond the Chinese pull, because here's just awesome feel of representation.
Like what a roller coaster. Here was this part of something I grew up loving, and thinking "great, they recognize some parts of my heritage too now!", only to run into someone else who decided it wasn't needed in their idea of what Star Wars could be.

Same. Honestly, I thought it was TLJ and Solo that ruined a lot of my enjoyment of the series, but no... It's the fucking fandom. YT Star Wars videos are just LITTERED with controversy bait "wHy x RuInEd StAr WaRs" and people making insane generalizations about everyone who liked or disliked a thing. Twitter and Reddit is actually filled with people attacking people for having different opinions. Even on here, anytime I see someone genuinely wanting to discuss the future of the series, it's always filled with the most cynical shit takes and people getting personal with each other. This shit actively has ruined Star Wars for me to the point where its hard to care anymore

Tbh, I think Star Wars Reddit has calmed down a looooot since the TLJ and Solo days. I do find reading the leak and main subreddit more fun than discourse on here, so I'm kinda with you on that lolPeople always badmouth reddit but I browse SW topics there sometimes and honestly a lot of the discussion there is more civil than it is here lol
I honestly don't mind "forced" diversity in movies/TV shows/video games/etc. even if you might call it corporate pandering, because it suggests to me that the balance of power has shifted from racists to... well, not racists. (sub in any other ism here if you want)And yet these same people constantly argue that Lucasfilm should only pander to them (white straight cis men) because they're the ones who spend money on SW i.e. they're saying that Lucasfilm should first and foremost consider the financials.
