i was in a convenience store the other day and american pie was playing and i looked at the cashier and said, "dear god, they don't play the whole thing every time do they?"

It isn't just the opening crawl of a Star Wars film.

"The Saga Begins" is probably the most impressive parody song I've ever heard. It's Weird Al's magnum opus.
It's not for me but I understand the reference.

Nerd site + age bracket. Most people here are young enough that they probably first heard American Pie because of The Saga Begins.
For me it's "Trapped In The Drive-Thru". Weird Al managed to turn R. Kelly's laughable garbage "opera" into a masterpiece.

Same here. It's on a playlist in our car and now the standard version for me.
I'ma be honest, I only know the chorus to American Pie. I honestly didn't remember that it actually started with "a long, long time ago". Not that I know all the lyrics to The Saga Begins either but the opening line is memorable.
It's not in the opening crawl though? One "long", two "far"s This is really just a question of...do you think of the OG song, or the parody with the same lyrics?

EDIT: OK rewatching this video, I really want his acoustic guitar. Obi Al Yanknobi has good taste in instruments.
