This Cenk thread is so embarrassing and disingenuous. What a pessimist view of humanity if people aren't allowed to introspect and change their views when they realize a belief they once held was ignorant.
To be fair things are getting mixed up.

I think Cenk is a better person(I hope) but you can't use the n word. Period.

And Ill give him as much shit as I did Ralph Northam for his blackface.

I agree with not using the n word for sure. Is a person ever allowed to come back from that though? Again, I would like to hope that someone with a previously shitty point of view can be allowed to rehabilitate.

I agree he shouldn't have used the word. The framing of the tweet leaves out the context that he was supposedly insulting that racist Bounty hunter guy though.

This too, the thread is definitely used to take as many out of context shots at Cenk as possible so he looks like some kind of fake progressive or something.

You cannot even quote it my dudes.

No singing along.

No light A.

Nothin. And he's old enough and smart enough to know you don't use that word. I agree people should get second chances but there are some things you just don't do. And in a political race where the other prominent Dem running is A. A good person. B. Pretty progressive themselves and C. Not carpetbagging this is a sinking issue for Cenk.

I don't honestly care if Cenk wins or loses. He's done good things through TYT but he's also a meathead. He's not a socialist, so he gets no loyalty from me.

I know how to make charcoal and grow sweet potatoes. Valuable skills in our black future.

I just try to make as many Mongol friends as I can. They will take over in like 5 minutes after The Fall (yes, we're gonna name it like YA novel, it has been foretold by The Old Ones) and they're gonna need a friendly face to rule the Cascadian Khanate.
Also anecdotally, they're some of the coolest people I have ever met.

idk Cerk, so i dont have nothing to add in this discussion, but just wanted to say that there's plenty of anti-communists in the forum that really hate socialism, and they want to kick our butt because they hate us, and that thread looked like a bait , with inflamatory rhetoric basicaly saying bernie sanders is despicable for supporting that dude and shouldnt win and wanting to damage his image to others, something that pisses off many socialist in the forum that like bernie, that would try to defend him or the dude and get banned in the end.
Lots of times i made the mistake of getting very pissed many times with anti-communist rhetoric in this forum that is accepted here because of a false notion of ambivalence of anti-capitalist and anti-communist rhetoric as equals, when the later is a base of fascism and is propelling the growth of neofascism in the world, and that type of rhetoric resulted in torture, and even today, jail, murders and persecution. In a sense they are helping Trump and bolsonaro etc, reproducing their rhetoric of criminalizing communists and to act in this way for creating baits.

So to conclude, its best to not think this forum as your friend, try your best to not get emotional, act rationally, there's more leftists here, but dont fall for it, dont get attached, never believe its a place that you can feel comfortable.

I think the problem is that most people either don't think about the cold war or think about it Red Dawn terms. And as a result, a lot of people just naturally accept dumb, cold war way of thinking of the world. And remember, most of "the left" just snitched on everyone to left of them when people were getting dragged before congress to swear that they're not Soviet spies in the 50s. Hollywood writes stories about the handful of people who were rich and connected enough to say no, but even there, most people just gave anyone that they didn't fully agree with politically, and most people who got snitched on got their life ruined.

I have a Vietnamese friend and who likes to say that the only lesson the US learned from the cold war is "don't invade Vietnam".
I don't think they're wrong.

Just gonna repeat what I said in another thread: when I'm an old man and there are gasmasked teenagers ramsacking my house (lol probably more like a living quarter) during the climate apolocaypse, I hope they take me out painlessly.

I'm not gonna cape for Cenk, I'm not invested in him winning or losing. I think the bigger issue I have with the way its being handled is that we're setting a precedent in which people are not allowed to rehabilitate and redeem themselves after making mistakes in the past. I have said and done some stupid shit when I was a teen and up until my early 20's. Am I now not allowed to condemn those previous actions? Should I not participate in my community?

The same ones pushing this shit are the same people who rehabilitate all manner of terrible people. Even worse, they excuse them.
Namely former presidents, neoliberal politicians and elites who're complicit in crimes beyond counting.

The motive for this is clear, whether you think Cenk is good or not.

no one is perfect, everyone makes mistakes even more as teenager and young college students say stupid shit all the time since its the phase where more mistakes and stuff you are learning. The thing is if the person is really sorry for past behaviour and change it, idk Cenk so i cant say. But about you, you condemn your past behaviours and changed, you are ok to me. Citing JESUSSS "who has never sinned throw the first stone", sure there's behaviors that needs atonement in society eyes, and some behaviours that some people will never forgive. I'm using christian language because our society uses this.

That thread was made in bad faith, was full of the same bad actors we usually see, and i do believe that people can rehabilitate themselves. But. Cenk was saying some very dumb and harmful shit well into his 40s. Until very recently in fact. It doesn't mean he's completely irredeemable for the future, but i'm also not jumping through hoops to defend his shit nor do i blame anyone for not liking the dude.

Ime you have to add tahini and/or olive oil and za'atar to get it tasting right but once it's there it's surprisingly good. But I'm actually not very into the taste of soy milk so I might be a bit pickier about the taste than a lot of people. I really got into making soy milk because of the nutritional content and that it's the only good analogue to dairy milk in some applications (like cooking with it or acidifying it to make 'buttermilk'), but there's also a lot of cool stuff you can do with vegan cheeses just by combining a seed or nut yogurt with pureed seeds or nuts and left for like a day to culture. From there you can decide to age it like a normal dairy cheese to make it sharper or add some tapioca flour (which you cook out of it on the stove) and carageenan to get something a lot like a meltable mozzarella cheese. I haven't gone that far yet but it's probably only a matter of time because I tbh find the added unnecessary constraints of the plant based thing kind of fun.

We're embracing anarcho-primitivism pretty quickly.

Joking about it helps distract from the eventual tragic extinction of like 999/1000ths of all collective human knowledge. Can probably only contain so much wisdom and knowledge in a common oral tradition lol...

That does sound very flavorful. Not vegan, but I need more plant stuff in my diet.

They mostly drink vodka. Cheap, amazing vodka.
Well, that'd probably fuck me up too lol

Good luck getting fucked up on airag.
I mean, anything is possible if you believe in yourself, but it's like 3% alcohol. It's like getting drunk from a virgin white Russian that you left out of the fridge.
I actually had an airag and vodka cocktail in a bar there, I think they called it white Mongolian, it was pretty gross.

I'm lactose, so I whole-heartedly believe in my ability to get fucked up!

Tbh I've just been having weirdly specific fantasies of subsisting for years off of a granary or something.
I like cheese, cows can be pleasant, and caves are cool 🤔

Damn, you're right. What's this about a Cascadia Khanate?
Those who pay tribute to the great Khan will be treated fairly if strictly.

p.s.
Free pro tip: If you ever want to launch a career as an edgy Vice like extreme adventure bro on the internet, Mongolia is *the* place to go.
I think people have vague sense of danger when they hear the name, and it's a poor country for sure, but the one thing that I think people don't know about it is that English is the 2nd language there, and they have like 98% literacy rate. So pretty much everyone under 35 speaks English, which makes it the easiest country in the region for westerners to travel, by far. And you can take pictures of riders with golden eagles in like their county fair and pretend you had to infiltrate past the invading hordes to get it.
It's also really pretty, really cheap, the people are super cool and they could use some tourism money, they are getting fucked by the IMF.

Had no idea English was so widely spoken there! What I've seen of the steppes and the old-fashioned yurts and the like in media look quite beautiful, alas travel's not in my cards.

:D

Portugal has a long tradition of great leftist songwriting. It was one of the main tools to raise dissent during the dictatorship. If you're interested in finding more, look up Zeca Afonso or José Mário Branco as well.

Here's a couple of my favorites:

In the grey sky
Below the silent star
In the still night
They come in bands
With velvet feet
Sucking fresh blood
From the herd.
If anyone is fooled
By their serious manner
And open their doors
To them on their arrival.

They'll eat everything
They'll eat everything
They'll eat everything
And leave nothing.

From everywhere
The vampires arrive
They perch in buildings
They perch in the streets
They bring in their pouches
Old spoils
But nothing binds them
To their spent lives.

They are the stewards
Of the whole universe
Masters by force
Commanders without laws.
They fill their barns
And drink the new wine
They dance the round dance
In the king's pine forest.

They eat everything
They eat everything
They eat everything
And leave nothing.

On the ground of fear
The vanquished tumble
We hear the screams
In the sweltry night.
They lie in the cesspools
Victims of their beliefs
And nothing drains away
The blood of the herd.

If anyone is fooled
By their serious manner
And open their doors
To them on their arrival.

They'll eat everything
They'll eat everything
They'll eat everything
And leave nothing.

Milton Friedman and the usual ghouls shock therapy-ed the ever loving shit out of Mongolia after it had a bloodless youth led democratic revolution in 1990. Society straight up collapsed in many places and people had to go back to nomadic lives, that shit is extreme poverty, that sadly have been romanticized by travel agencies. These days you have nice tourist yurts that you can airbnb, and that's cool for sure, but that's not how people want to live. People didn't chose to live like substance goat farmers, they had government jobs, it wasn't great, but it was something.
They were slowly recovering from the worst of it and then the IMF came in 2012 because they saw a country that didn't do austerity enough and it made them sad.

And by the way, I don't blame anyone for not knowing that, most people spend most of their lives without thinking about Mongolia, and the little that is reported is horrible, and no one is born with that knowledge.

Well there's your problem right there.
